I can't play any videogame without doing this. Remember I tried a demo of a game once where I couldn't do this, and that's as far as I got in that demo.

So if it's that mandatory to me, could it be for others too?

I also think the notion of this feeling being more natural for started with the idea of flying games. After all, even Pilots who fly planes have inverted Y axis. So if it started there since so many ages ago, why have it any other way?

I like up to be up,and down to be down.I don't see the need to complicate things.

When I first started gaming, I played on my dad's PC with Dark Forces II and Mysteries of the Sith, and he had his mouse Y axis set on inverted (the game has it on inverted by default), and then I knew only a few words in english (I was about 4-5 years old), and much less about game settings so to me, playing with an inverted axis was the natural thing ever since I was a little kid. Now, about 17 years later I still do it and having a really hard time adjusting to games which don't offer the option to invert Y axis (I'm looking at you, The Force Unleashed...). People still finding it weird when I tell them I play inverted.

(why did this sound like as if I was saying it in a threapy group...?)

If there's anything BSN has taught me about retirement, it's that no one on BSN ever retires.

Yeah. Like "natural scrolling" Scroll your mouse wheel up to move the page down and vice versa. Wut?

And pilots have Y-axis cause of G-forces.

The Y-axis debate is up there with whether the toilet paper should come off the roll from the top or the bottom; i.e., who ****** cares? Do whatever makes it easier for you.

I have to invert the Y-axis, if I'm using a joystick or arrow keypad.  It's not even a matter of preference, I am completely and totally incapable of playing any other way.  I think it's because I got used to playing so many "flight simulator" type games like F-15 Strike Eagle, Gunship, F19 Stealth Fighter, etc. growing up that flight-type controls are the only way I have learned to interact with a computer screen from a first-person perspective with a joystick.  I remember one 3P game (maybe one of the Resident Evil games?) where you couldn't invert the Y-axis for the camera controls, and it was unbearable.

For a mouse, I'm fine with "up is up, down is down."

My uncle used to take me flying in little 4 seater cesna. Started teaching me. Around the same time (roughly) I started playing X-wing/X-wing Vs Tie Fighter where I inverted.

Since then I'm the same. I can't use un-inverted controls without staring at the floor/roof.

I've given up a few older games that didn't have that option.

Also, I always find that people that Invert their controls are especially strange people in real-life...My uncle does that in every game he plays..I personally hate it..Unless its a Flight / Jet Fighter game..thats the only exception for me ...WTF...Up is Down and Down Is Up?  I want to look left why is the screen turning to the right?

I invert the X and Z axes too because controls that make sense are a crutch.

I always invert.  It's likely due to having played flight sims in my younger days.  I think of the camera control as controlling the character's head.  If I push forward on the controller, I'm tilting the character's head forward, and thus looking down.

The toilet paper debate ended ages ago, because the inventor of the holder intented the paper to come off the roll from the top, as can be seen clearly in his drawings in the patent itself.

Y-axis depends on a. the game I play and b. the controls I'm using. I would never invert my mouse but for a joystick it's natural.

Right on! I use a teletype for the game output. It's slow to redraw but the clattering noise is soothing.
