I'd like a troll to try that... but the mods would delete any porn posted.

Not if you put it in spoiler tags and mark it as NSFW.

What I want is a female Groose.

That would be manly.

That character's role has always been portrayed by a male, either an adult, a young adult, a teenage or a young kid. Never it has been changed by gender, and the reason is that's the archetype, a young male elf, dressed in green and white, with a funny hat, a shield and a sword.

What would happen if I changed Jill Valentine into a male called Bill Valentine? You get a total different character who needs new characterization - based on his gender - and that has nothing to do with the previous, except he has a similar role in the story.
What you get for swapping sex is pleasure suited for a sick mind. I'd never change neither the gender or the role of any famous character, videogame intended or not, unless there is a specific and strong reason to do that, remaining on the same base of the main opera.

Huh. I find the Jill Valentine example a bit of an odd one since we've already established that the Links used in different games are not in fact the same Link most of the time.

Also I should point out Link is already I intentionally given minimal amounts of characteristics already.

Anyways I agree with Puddi mostly. It wouldn't have a large impact on things much one way or another, although I do feel it could be a change of pace.

The used mold is the one we all saw in Zelda games. Even if it's not the same "person", it's the same "character" all the way.

You know what bugged me the most about playing Oblivion? ( I didn't play Skyrim)

That every other damn NPC has that same damn voice!!! I think I even heard that voice in my dreams for a while.

Don't worry, all of Bethesda's games have the same problem.

If they would stop spending all of their money to get one or two famous actors to do the voices there would probably be more variance in them.

I won't entirely disagree there, I just don't think Link is characterized enough anyways for it to personally matter much one way or another.

I could also point out the fact that they've used the same character architype for so long it could also be viewed in some eyes as the series growing a bit stale in some aspects.

Liam Neeson played the PCs dad in Fallout 3, and Malcolm McDowell played President Eden in Fallout 3 as well. And, of course, Ron Perlman is the narrator for the Fallout series.

Dermain's right though.

They blow the VA budget on a handful of famous actors for key characters and the hundreds of other NPCs are covered by Bethesda's usual group of 10 other generic VAs that they use in every game.

If you ask me some of these games don't even need VAs

Not to mention that half of the whole game's budget goes on marketing. The rest goes on the same "bug testing agency" Obsidian uses which houses topless women and suspicious white powder...

I think Obsidian partied out after New Vegas. South Park, Dungeon Siege and Pillars all relatively good on the bug front.

Still, it was one hell of a way to go.

Stop giving Bethesda more credit.

It's more like six voice actors.

I liked the series, but the shooting mechanic was horrible.

I've barely played it. Played a demo of the 2nd one in a GameStop and helped my cousin with a puzzle on the third one. I plan on getting into the series whenever I get a PS3. Did you see the 4th one though?

I agree for the most but I did like the two gun thing. You know rpg people and immersion

No offense but I'm not really getting the sense that most of you have even read the backstory for Link to the Past (or any of the Zeldas?)? I can't help but think this is just random mudslinging for the most part.

Hell yeah. A lot of developers have it twisted when they think "cinematic" can only be done by lessening the control the player has. That whole segment had a cinematic quality to it without resorting to a blatant cutscene or doing something else with the mechanics as far as I can see. That's why the director of EA's Game of the Decade, Final Fantasy XV, makes me mad. He thinks "cinematic combat" is auto-dodging and one button combos to the point where the game is practically playing for you.

Uncharted is meh -- Not any form of engaging gameplay beyond chest-high-wall-pop-up-shooting-galleries and cinematic set pieces, puzzles where the game flat out tells you the solution. I'm pretty sure Amy Hennig (when she still worked for them) said that they come up with the cinematic trivialities first then build the story around that which explains so much. In retrospect, The Last of Us wasn't that much different, only it had more interesting characters and a more fun combat system where the stealth mechanic felt appropriately tied in.
