Unfortunately, a male Samus would surprise me less than a female Link. I wouldn't put it past Nintendo to say they've decided that people just didn't like Samus's portrayal in Other M because they don't like women, and the next Metroid protag will be male to make it more "approachable."

Sure, I'm all for a female Link.
As long as she remains in the kitchen making some sammiches and they call the game Kitchen of Time, or Majora's Kitchen, or KitchenWaker, or Princess of the Kitchen, or anything along those lines. I'd definitely play it then.

Wouldn't shitlords be gay?
No. Not wanting a harem (or every character in the game female) isn't gay.

The ending is just him being flippant with you because it's not ready when he gets there.
Then he asks you about your day while he's reading the paper and pointedly ignoring everything that comes outta your mouth?!
You guys are weird!
Don't judge me!

I wouldn't mind playing as Midna, she has more personality than Link and Zelda combined, judging by the games I've played.

Instead of the insistency to appeal to political correctness I'd prefer to create original strong characters of whatever gender fits said character.
this has nothing to do with political correctness, I just think a female hero of time would be interesting and more appealing to play, I believe there was some concept art released with Hyrule Warriors that shows concepts for a female Link so obviously the idea is being considered, but I guess the question is are gamers ready to accept a female protagonist in the next (or one after that) Zelda game?
Link already has a lot of feminine characteristics (as posters in this thread have pointed out) and since every new Zelda game (that isn't a direct sequel) features a new incarnation of the Hero of Time what is to stop one of them from being female?

Then why are the voting options so sexist?
And what's stopping Link from being black (No racist intended) on the next game?

I fail to see what you mean? I like to think I discriminated fairly against both sides.
As for what is stopping Link from being black, if you want to make a case for it then go right ahead (though now that I think of it I can't remember seeing any black people in the Zelda franchise), I merely saw the concepts for a female Link, I liked the idea and the thought of being able to play a female version of the hero of time just appealed to me, there is not much more to it than that.
It's not some plot to overthrow the patriarchy or create a female dominance in video games, and as much as you might like to think I am the boogiewoman trying to steal your games from you I just think you are over-thinking things looking a little too hard for a reason to be offended.

Your posts come off as rather trollish if not incredibly sarcastic, so I have a hard time believing any of this ![]()
In any case, the whole discussion reeks of desperate clamoring to the spectrum of political correctness, your reference and comparison to the whole female Thor debacle not withstanding but that's a discussion for another time.

I think it's just to say that if you palate swap a character to the opposing gender and leave everything else is the same it's not really going to make a difference. Or in essence you can oppose this idea on more grounds than "readiness to accept."
There have been plenty of female knight like characters in gaming at any rate, such as Lenneth Valkyrie (and really Hrist and Silmeria also), Agrias from Final Fantasy Tactics, Ashe from Final Fantasy 12, Maiev (kinda) from WC3, Karin Koenig from Shadow Hearts, as well as dozens of generically fighter like female characters like Sylvannas, Kerrigan, Ada Wong, Aya Brea, Virgina and Cecille from Wild Arms, Katt and Nina from Breath of Fire, etc. etc.
Plenty of gamers have accepted central female characters for some time now, I can understand people being resistant to the idea based on the fact that you are kind of compelling someone to create something that isn't their own personal inspiration or creation.
Anyway not to be all negative I put "Sure female hero of time!" because yeah it could be cool, only if they really wanted to make it though and had an actual idea to make it unique and interesting than just "female Link."

Well Hyrule warriors did release concept art depicting a female version of Link so I am sure the idea has been considered as something they would like to do, and not me stomping my feet and demanding they cater to my preferences over their own.

Not sure I am allowed to post scans of the Hyrule warriors art book, but it has a few different concepts for female Link
