It's not critical, at least not to me, but you seemed desperate for wanting an answer as to what the deal is with "Shin Megami Tensei/Persona" and why it is popular, and why people would recommend it.

 

I thought you answered that though? I mean I did watch a lets play of the start of the game to see if any of what you were talking about had truth to it, however what I saw seemed to be the standard anime cliche type characters and high school setting and determined that the game just doesn't look like my cup of tea, honestly were you expecting me to argue with you and tell you your opinion is crap? You obviously enjoy the game however I don't think I would, what more is there to discuss?

 

With so many people telling me I was ignorant for not being interested in the series I was merely curious as to why you guys were so adamant on trying to convince me that the series was good.

As for why I'm here, I can tell you that I absolutely disrespect the opinion of the person who wants to randomly just gender bend or sexually change characters on a whim.

 

Well I have said that a female Link would not be the same as taking an established character like Duke Nukem or Lara Croft and sprinkling fairy dust on them to turn them into Duchess Nukem and Larry Croft and yes I would totally agree with you on your stance.

 

However it is different with the Legend of Zelda series as each new game that isn't a sequel features new incarnations of the characters, Link does not refer to just one character within the Zelda universe but many, each new incarnation of Link is a new character and I just think it would be nice to see a female version especially since the idea is being considered by the design teams, do I really need more reason than that? are we not allowed to discuss such things on these forums?

To be honest I am not inherently against JRPGs and if I find one that catches my interest odds are I will probably give it a go, Shin Megami Tensai and Persona just don't.

Yeah I mean ok you are saying it's a great opportunity, because there is a prior original concept and every incarnation is a brand new character why not a female this time? Like I said.. uh.. "sure"

 

I don't have anything else to add to that idea.

 

The reality though is that likely whatever gender Link is, it's going to just be a Zelda game, it's probably not going to affect the experience at all really. If there were differences, it would be due to that new original concept that pierced the skin and affected the game in significant ways beyond her/his particular genitalia.

 

It's almost like your asking us to vote in favor of a whole new character concept, that also would not clash with pre-existing lore, which again, sure, cool, whatever.

Because watching a let's play of it isn't enough, and I know that because someone else on BSN was skeptical when merely watching a let's play of it. You can't really judge its depth, if anything its characters, solely by watching the start of the game -- In fact, I don't believe any JRPG can solely be based on its first 15 minutes or so. Make that of what you will. I'm not here to convince you, I just like discussing about the game and if you weren't being a dismissive jerk, then maybe I wouldn't have treated you with the "ignorance card" it only prompted me to tell you why you're wrong, and why I believe anyone who wants a strong RPG, who also likes BioWare games (presumably anyone who visits this site) should play it.
 
But the discussion was obviously not solely for Persona but Shin Megami Tensei as a whole, which is a whole different beast altogether as I pointed out which you did not bother to address, so you can imagine why I'd want to engage in an argument with you.

Heck, acknowledgement alone would have been enough, without that conniving tone, saying that it isn't for you at the time would really have been enough.
