Eh, I wouldn't mind them providing for both options. I probably would stick with male Link, but other than a new character model and changing he to she, I can't imagine this taking up too much effort. Of course, this is all provided that I actually buy a Wii U, which isn't happening any time soon.

This seems to be the solution to any "problem" on BSN - suggest a toggle.

Link is iconic to the series the way Zelda is. Change his hair or his age, but his sex shouldn't be changed. Still, this upcoming Zelda will probably be the last one I play anyway, so If they wanted to do something like this afterwards then have at it.

I personally think that feminists are idiots. Women BELONG under men, it's only nature. After all, if you're truly equal, then how could you allow yourself to be oppressed?

Because then they wouldn't be "Link". Miles Morales is still Miles Morales. "Spider-Man" isn't his real name, while "Link" actually IS Link's name. You're putting forward the same non-logic that Marvel did when they introduced woman Thor, that "Thor" is a title and that "Thor's" real name is just "Odinson", despite it being established for half a century prior that his real, actual name is Thor.

A female Link literally would not be Link, because Link is a male. Spider-Woman is not a female Spider-Man, and Miles Morales Spider-Man is not Peter Parker Spider-Man.

And "Hero of Time" doesn't refer to every version of Link like you seem to be implying. "Hero of Time" only applies to the version of Link that appears in the Ocarina trilogy (OoT, Majora's Mask, and Twilight Princess). Although in Twilight Princess, the Hero of Time isn't the playable Link (who is a descendant of Ocarina/Majora's Mask Link), but rather the Hero's Shade Link that teaches player-Link the Hidden Skills.

Is Link a gender specific name? I think you could get away with it on a female, besides the name Link is not just given to one specific character within the Zelda universe but is the default name (that serves as a placeholder for whatever name the player chooses) that is shared by all the incarnations of the hero of time (I call them incarnations of the hero of time because that is arguably to most popular incarnation even if the moniker isn't entirely accurate). Link is not a single definable entity within the Zelda universe, sure a lot of the incarnations share a lot of the same traits and features but I also feel there is room for a little change and variation from time to time.

We need to go back to Pink hair Link tbh.

Wonder how feminists would freak out if someone suggested a female character be turned male.

And then rioting about it.

Adam Jensen would make a pretty girl.

Especially if she kept the beard and voice.

Is there some reason why Link isn't a cat or is it just racism?

When will video games stop being such human-centric bigotry? What about all of the Otherkin out there? The people who self identify as animals, or plants, or rocks, or space, or whatever they think up of. If video games don't remind these people what special snowflakes they are they could be triggered or worse!

Most unbiased poll ever!

The last option was far too appealing.

Having a game with a Link story and a Zelda story would be interesting

Link actually *is* a single definable entity in LoZ -- He is the playable protagonist in every single game in the series that isn't a spin-off or a non-canon entry (like Smash Bros.).

There IS change and variation. There have been 4 (I think more, but I remember 4 off the top of my head) Links throughout the Zelda chronology, between the original LoZ to Ocarina of Time to Skyward Sword to Wind Waker. Each Link is different in so much as his clothes and personality, but they all share the same core traits:

-wears the same or very similar clothing

-wields the Hyrule Shield and the Master Sword

-is the playable character

-personifies the Triforce of Courage

-is male

All of those are constant throughout the series. Everything else IS changed.

I wanted to vote for the first and last ones, but it would only let me vote once. Naturally, if forced to pick one extreme, I will pick the patriarchy.

Why change his gender to cater to some sexist bigots when it's defined by canon that Link must always be a male?

The day Link is turned into a woman is the day I stop playing LOZ.

If one wants to play as a chick in a Zelda-ish type game then there's Parin from "Gurumin" and Yunica Tovah from "Ys: Origin". Of course, looking for other games with such femprotags requires a bit of effort instead of simply demanding that Link be made into a woman...
