I don't know, I think it would out ok for me.
Which in of itself is irrelevant to the point I was making.
The backstory in ALTTP is fairly extensive IMO, at least 8-10 pages or so, add in the stuff that happens in the game itself I'd say it adds up to quite a bit of material, especially compared to NES Zelda.
The fact that he doesn't speak at all or anything makes him seem minimalist but he's a character in a larger story sense all the same IMO

Link isn't much of a character as he is but an avatar of the player who blindly acts in accordance with the Zelda formula without understanding. There isn't enough backstory, nor personality, in any of the games outside Wind Waker, where I'd consider him much of a character any more than I would Mario. Wind Waker decided to make it so that he could at least make some facial expression, granting at least a bit of personality to his supposed character.

I think that's why most characters are androgynous in rpgs.

I don't see why people who want to play as a female character in these kind of games don't push for a game set in the same universe with a different protagonist. What's the point of changing the sex of a character that already exists? It seems arbitrary and perhaps even a little spiteful.
Instead of complaining that devs don't allow them to make set characters like Link, Geralt etc female, why not simply ask for new female characters?

Only if they make Zelda male.
Or do you want an all female game?
Maybe you should team up with Anita Sarkasiansisansioansaisna and make your own? I seem to remember she made a hypothetical game where all the main protagonists were female and the enemies were all male. Maybe that would suit you...

Is this the same guy who wanted Adam Jensen to be a woman?
Heh, thats funny
"If you want to make enemies try to change something", seems merely mentioning change will do it as well.

I'm female and I voted for the last one. Now what?
Honestly not sure what you are expecting? A medal for placing a vote?
If you honestly prefer playing as and identify more with male characters then who am I to tell you that you are wrong? Does not matter if you are male or female.

Link actually *is* a single definable entity in LoZ -- He is the playable protagonist in every single game in the series that isn't a spin-off or a non-canon entry (like Smash Bros.).
There IS change and variation. There have been 4 (I think more, but I remember 4 off the top of my head) Links throughout the Zelda chronology, between the original LoZ to Ocarina of Time to Skyward Sword to Wind Waker. Each Link is different in so much as his clothes and personality, but they all share the same core traits:
-wears the same or very similar clothing
-wields the Hyrule Shield and the Master Sword
-is the playable character
-personifies the Triforce of Courage
-is male
All of those are constant throughout the series. Everything else IS changed.
While it is true that each new incarnation of Link has been male where is it stated that Link MUST be male? How is being male a defining aspect of Link? Link is not a single character within the Zelda universe but a name given to a multitude of characters within the Zelda universe and just because most of them had been male does not mean that they all need to be male or that it is a defining aspect, it is like saying blonde hair is a defining aspect of the hero of time because only the aryan master race can wield the master sword.

Why change his gender to cater to some sexist bigots when it's defined by canon that Link must always be a male?
Where is it defined? Also how is it bigotry to see a concept for a female version of Link and think "gee, I wouldn't mind to seeing that in the next Zelda game"? Honestly throwing around words like "bigot" to describe people who dare make their preferences and opinions known makes you just as bad and hypocritical as the feminists you claim to be against.
These concepts were actually drawn up by somebody who was actually working on an entry in the Zelda franchise so obviously the idea has been considered at one point or another, is the artist who created the female link concepts a sexist bigot as well? What if they genuinely would like to create a Zelda game with a female protagonist? Are you saying that they are wrong for creating the type of content they want to see instead of catering exclusively to you? Well I hate to break it to you Kaiser but that is exactly the sort of rhetoric that Anita and pals spew, looks like bigotry isn't exclusive to the feminist camp.
This is the sort of behavior that needs to stop on both sides, it is not bigotry or pandering when a female protagonist is featured in a game over a male protagonist nor is it sexism or misogyny when a male protagonist is featured over a female one.

Why not make Link a gay bastard instead? Gays are even less represented in gaming than females and bastards even less (and I'm talking about the fatherless kind). Kill two birds with one stone and make Link a gay bastard.
And I'm still waiting for James Bond to be made into a transgendered atheist Muslim African lesbian because screw canon!
Stars Wars VII? Han Solo is now a genderless autistic mute Mexican Jedi. Darth Vader is back from the dead as a black man and Princess Leila is actually a space cow!
Why stop at a female Link when there are so many more characters we can change to represent everyone instead of creating new ones?
Superman? lel more like Super "gender confused woman" Man!
Lara Croft? Nah remake her into Larry Croft.

Lets be honest here, everyone who votes for any of the last 3 options is a misogynistic shitlord, the person who voted 5 is merely being honest about it.
Interesting.

You are trying too hard to turn this into an issue of political correctness when this is not what this is about, it is not about bringing karmic balance to the universe by turning every popular character in gaming female, it is merely about seeing a concept of a female version of Link and wondering if anyone might like and would be open to the idea.

Interesting.
To be honest I thought it would be obvious to most people viewing the thread that what you highlighted and quoted was meant as satire, perhaps I gave you too much credit?

Well at first I thought it was satire but you're honestly confusing people. You seem very serious and pressing about the whole "issue". And cheap shots aren't going to get you anywhere tbh.

Sorry, misogynistic shitlord here.
But seriously, swapping genders to appeal to the PC crowd will almost always end in failure.

Especially since it alienates the bulk of the fanbase only to appeal to a fringe vocal minority of agitators(a good portion of which don't even play video games or the franchise in question).
