Given that the last decent game CA made was the first Rome, and even that was a step down from Medieval, I'm getting a distinct feeling this is going to be a massive waste of the licence....

I hope they add a Space Marine easter egg unit, so you can slaughter whole armies in the name of the true Emperor

Oh for the days in which the Warhammer world was actually in the 40K universe. Silly GW retconning out the possibility for cool things like this.
(although it would likely be a CSM, as the rules for Chaos forces back in 1st ed 40k/whatever the edition of WHFB that coexisted were shared....)

It could be like the Amazon easter egg in Rome. Go out far enough into the upper right corner of the map and wham. Space marine drop pods.

So was Total War: Attila any better than Rome 2?

Yup. Pretty much an understatement.
The only thing people are really pissed off with are the shady DLC practices (Longbeards and Celts, looking at you).

I never played any of them or even Shogun 2.
I wanted to get Rome 2, but the reviews said it's awful. I don't have much info on Attila game however. Is it as god level as medieval 2?
Medieval 3 is what I really want.

I'm a little biased towards medieval 2 (mods mods mods) so not really.
+Cleaned up interface
+Goal is less conquering, more surviving; atmosphere
+Factions feel different on grand campaign
+Better AI
+Offensive sieges are fun again!
-Slightly poorer optimization compared to R2
-Some awkward animations carried over from Rome 2 (stabbing with a mace, seriously?)
-Politics and dynasty system a little flawed (don't expect a Crusader Kings 2)
Heck, the only big thing that holds Attila and Shogun 2 back is the engine but they find ways around it.

A shame ![]()
Since I wouldn't care much for an Empire 2, I'd love to see them try out a pike-and-shot game that bridges Medieval and Empire (1500-1700).

Its an awesome trailer
The game I will hold out on and see. This is a big change in direction and I hope they really impress with it. I can't help but be reserved however.

It's been a while. Here are some in-game screenshots from the Battle of Blackfire pass. Apologies if someone else covered it.
Considering how Attila turned out, I'm pretty excited for this E3. On a side note, I smell a future LotR mod.

It looks like things will be quiet on TWW until the July trailer. I'm hoping for some gameplay. The Angry Joe interview has me a bit excited.
Also, the original Medieval and Shogun games (bundled with expansions) are now available on steam and for modern resolutions. They lack online multiplayer, though.

CA said that they will not release mod tools for this game, because of license´s issues with GW. But i hope some people find the way to mod it into LotR.

So I watched the entire interview.
For those worrying about only four races, they're planning on releasing standalone games that you can merge into each other, not only adding more factions to the base game but also expanding the map. They're focusing on the Old World but they'll move on.
Each campaign will also be story-driven with RPG elements like quests, companions, weapons (like Ghal Maraz) and loot. Your hero (ie Karl Franz) will be ageless so this makes sense. It's all done to blur the line between campaign and battle.
(Correction: There will be a mode called "Battle of Blackfire Pass" for you to do that. I'm not sure how "regular" campaigns will work.)
Armies will have a mana pool shared between units. It can be spent by a general's buffs or a wizard/shaman's offensive spells.
Faction differences will be more pronounced. Orcs will gain more units based on a Waaagh, where each victory nets more momentum. Reminds me a bit of playing the Welsh rebellion campaign in Medieval 2.
CA said that they will not release mod tools for this game, because of license´s issues with GW. But i hope some people find the way to mod it into LotR.
Such a shame, too.
Anyone who would attempt it should probably be cautious regarding legal takedowns.

What this game really needs are Ogres! Everything is better with Ogres! Ogre charge! The Great Maw demands it!
