it could be a great product, but.....it has a potential, i hate to say it, but thats all.

Agreed. It had the potential to be great, but failed. I think it's safe enough to say that now.

You are of course entitled to your opinion.

Of course, and it's the right one. Loooooooool again @ DAIMP being great.

... The money and effort spent on MP would be better spent on SP....

... I don't know how many people actually bought platinum, ...

Andraste's knickers, do we have to do these tired arguments again ;) ?

MP and SP are separately budgeted, you don't get to spend MP budget on SP if you don't have that game format.

MP is a format many people enjoy that helps the development of SP not hinders it.

And as for not knowing how much was spent on platinum, no you don't know do you .

If the money is there it will continue, if not it won't (past experience says it will).

Kenny - you are most welcome to name a few other co-op fantasy experiences similar to what DAIMP provides that does not require a subscription fee. In fact, thats a dare.

Personally, I enjoy the gamemode quite a bit. I'll admit it's on my backburner now due to new games that have come out (PoE, GTA-V), so I typically only play some games during the weekend to hit the challenge. It is something that I do not regret having spent real money on.

Torchlight, diablo, crimson alliance, minecraft off the top of my head. I thought subscription fees were for games where you don't host the server on your own console.

Loooooooooooooooool. So the lack of a subscription fee automatically makes something great?

No, but since DAIMP does not require a subscription fee, it's better to compare apples with apples. If you could compare it to games with subscription fees included, it's pretty much every MMOG out there that has dungeon group content would be eligible.

CassMandra - Nice list, although I wouldn't agree with DAIMP being an action RPG of a similar nature as those games you listed. I suppose YMMV :)

Something being unique automatically makes it great? I'm really struggling to understand your leaps in logic here.

To be fair, none of the games you listed are much like DAI at all.  Not even remotely similar, imo.  Maybe Crimson Alliance, I'm not terribly familiar with that one as I'm a PC gamer.  But Torchlight, Diablo, and PoE are a different genre, while Minecraft doesn't even show up to the same parties as most (any?) action RPGs.

Kind of, yes.  Well, not perhaps in the way he means but...DAI scratches a particular itch and it's hard to find other games to hit that same spot.  So if you want to get your fix of this particular game type, you've much more limited options and sometimes have to just go with the best thing you can find, even if it's not great.

DAIMP is just like diablo or torchlight. You join a level with other players and hack your way through to the end. Care to explain how its different?

DAIMP is a multiplayer format that elicits different levels of response from players.

Some people dislike multiplayers on principle and those who have tried it have varying responses from 'it sucks' to 'it's great'.

All of those subjective views are valid.

However, mocking people because their assessment is different to ones own, is not.

Personally I don't find it to be the best MP I've ever played (which is MEMP),

but I'd assess it as very good and I look forward to DLC to enhance it.

In the meantime, I'm playing less DAIMP, largely because I've played a ton of it.

I mean...if you oversimplify massively, they're the same.  Hell, I could apply that extremely basic description to turn-based RPGs and pure horde-mode games too.  Or MMOs.  Torchlight, Diablo, and PoE are all overhead perspective games with mouse-click movement and independent characters.  There's a heavy focus on long-term grinding, reloading zones, running specific bosses for drops, and in-game economies.  These overhead dungeon crawler games tend to be kind of twitchy but in a very, very different way from DAi--more shumpy than dodge-rolly.

Plus Torchlight, Diablo, and PoE all belong to an EXTREMELY well-established subgenre.  Like...there're dozens of games that're almost identical in gameplay style.  DAI is very, very clearly different from Titan Quest/Van Hellsing/that whole genre and draws on a completely different mold.  DAI's third-person 20-minute-wave-combat runs are a pretty clear contrast.  TBH, the only way I can see someone saying they're terribly similar is if that person doesn't know all that much about the genres being discussed.

You're the one who brought up Torchlight and Diablo.  Also, tracking works totally different in those games too.  The concepts of aiming and dodging are so wildly opposite in DAI that it completely changes the gameplay.  Again, shumpy vs lock-on + dodge roll.

I can only interpret that as a no. It scratching an itch and being a great product are mutually exclusive.

An analogy would be a cafe close to work that sells steak sandwiches. It's the only one within the vicinity that does, and I go there whenever I have that itch. Does that make the steak sandwiches great by default?

Diablo 1 is a co-op action rpg that has 3 classes. Warrior, Rogue and Sorc. hmm sounds familiar.

Late as usual, but.....

'Losing its edge'? Uh, I guess that means that some of you guys are still playing this game?      O_O    Srsly, how do you deal?

Aren't you BBB by now?

I took a break from the lagtasticness of Xb1 Neverwinter to revisit DAMP... for like 5 minutes. GG What a letdown. Couldn't even find a threatening or a perilous game.

Nothing but tumbleweeds....

Sad but not unexpected

My personal opinion ; DA:I and DAIMP are great.

Your personal opinion; DA:I and DAIMP are not great.

Fact; DA;I Sold better than estimated by EA, and are thus considered a commercial success.

Was that clear enough for you? :)

False. I never said DAI wasn't a great product. I explicitly stated I didn't have enough experience with SP to make an informed decsision one way or another. DAIMP on the other hand...

You attributed financial success to the greatness of a product and also attempted to attribute the greatness of SP to MP, which is just silly. You then implied that DAIMP is great simply because there's nothing else out there like it. You haven't given any reasonable reasons for MP being a great product yet.
