Iron bull:Damage dealer.
Blackwall:Tank
Which would be the better fit?

Vivienne.
Cuz she got the booty.
(And with the right build, she's immortal).

It's up to you; I switched in and out depending on need (and had 2 mages in my party):
I used Vivienne's Knight Enchanter build here which is a support/healer build that pretty much makes her invulnerable and she can penetrate guards/barriers with a gargantuan amount of damage increase (ex: spirit damage +1000% when you materialize if you take Decloaking Blast).
With Dorian, I used the Pyromancer Pet build which is a high-DPS support-ish (fear) build. Lots of Panic and lots of Fire damage. Also yields some really funny results when you convert enemies to fight for you. A few days ago, I converted a red templar behemoth and, when he charged the other behemoth my party was fighting, he fell into a hole and died XD
I know you didn't ask but Solas's Rift Mage build is incredibly powerful as well because he has some of the most useful crowd control (knockdowns, pulls, pushes, stuns, etc) as well as some really good buffs/debuffs.

Solas would be a better choice than both tbh.
Agreed. Although with a lot of crafting and microing, Dorian can have similar mana availability. Simulacrum gives him a short window in which he can cast arbitrarily expensive spells. If he wears FT Snoufleur and you pay attention to his casting, Simulacrum can be spammed.
I'm not kidding about the amount of microing, though. I'm an obsessive microer, and even I prefer to use Solas.
I'm doing Hakkon without Solas, and I'm still adjusting to Dorian's rhythm.

Is Dorian a good mate when it comes to support? Like barriers and attacking?
Mmm, all of my mages carry Barrier and in the build I recommended, yes he's good at keeping up on both Barriers and damage. But like I said, I kept two mages in my party so Barrier cooldowns were never a problem.

I see what your saying. Do you think he fits in along with my other teammates?

Looking at your other two, yes most definitely. He covers whatever damage is lost to Blackwall's tankiness and adds a little bit of support with barriers and a frequent upkeep of panic. Also his necro spec adds to your fire damage for added dps.
What kind of archer specialization were you planning on going down—artificer or tempest? Both are pretty OP, especially mid-late game.

I was thinking tempest. Are there any other things artificer can do that might sway my mind?
Nah, tempest is way more fun imho ![]()
If you ever need Varric on your team for his quests, this build (artificer archer) maximizes his crit damage output.

Solas for skills, Dorian for banter/story, particularly with The Iron Bull in the party.

Thanks! You've been an amazing help in helping me finish off my party. I've also decided to romance him!
No problem, have fun! He's amazing

Something else happens if you don't romance him and Iron Bull is in the party...
But you should. Dorian is a beautiful man.

For dragon fights I tend to have both characters in my party, both for the most part I take Dorian everywhere, he's the coolest of the cool.

I take Dorian everywhere. Didn't even recruit Vivienne this PT. She is so manipulative and elitist. I also tend to roll a two mage party with my inquisitor being a KE and Dorian being my pretty hipster constant companion. I also pick my party based on personality and banter potential more than their actual abilities. I will say if you have Dorian and Blackwall in your party those two will constantly bicker like children and it is kind of annoying. But then again if you have Vivienne and Blackwall in your party those two will also bicker and pick at one another. Bull/Dorian/Sera is cool and Bull/Varric/Dorian is also cool.

I wouldn't put Vivienne in a party that already has 2 warriors, at least not after the knight enchanter specialization. I prefer to have 2 ranged characters at least.

OH I forgot! Remember to set important skills like Barrier and War Cry to *Preferred* under Tactics (Character Record > [Character] > Tactics > [Skill] > Set to 'Preferred').
