In the U.S. it varies from state to state.
The lowest age of consent is 16 (possibly 15) and it usually highest is 18.
Unless we're talking about the legal age to consume alcohol which is 21 (almost?) everywhere.
Pretty much, though speaking as someone who lives in a state with the age of consent at 16, almost everyone just acts like it's 18.
I believe the age for alcohol is indeed 21 in all states. Though it's not like the states couldn't lower it. It's simply that Mothers Against Drunk Driving was very good at lobbying Congress, and Congress will take away federal money for highways from any state that doesn't have the drinking age at 21 or higher.
