The next big event is when the Imperium rises, crushes the qunari and expands to south, east and west. Pax Tevinter ensues.
Next major event in the dragon age?

Sadly, what is hinted at and what actually happens are two very different things.
At the end of DAII, we all thought we were going to get an awesome game centered around the Mage/Templar conflict. What we actually got was a DLC villain returning and blowing a hole into reality, and the whole Mage/Templar conflict getting downsized into a single zone in the first Act of the game.
I'm not placing bets on anything.
Thank the Maker it didn't

Something about elven gods and the downfall of power of the chantry.

Well Nevarra and the Anderfels are both potentially ripe for one aren't they?

The only thing I would put money on (only a couple of bucks though) is that Calpernia is going to play a role in the next game.
What that role might be I'm not sure of. Maybe even a party member?

Yep. I was a little surprised that the Nevarran one didn't play much of a part in DAI, but I suppose with Orlais and the Divine and everything else going on that would've been overkill.

I think it'll be set primarily in the north/Tevinter. Qunari tensions and/or an invasion will be the backdrop (a la the Mage-Templar War in DA:I), but the real issue will be related to the Elven "gods" (ie. Solas) and whatever is going on there that they teased at in DA:I

We just put the Chantry back together again. I imagine it's unlikely the very next story will be about it's downfall. It would almost be like if Dragon Age 2 was set against the backdrop of the darkspawn destroying Ferelden.

To be fair, DA2 probably should have taken place against a backdrop of darkspawn destroying Ferelden (and beyond). Ending the blight in a single game was a massive waste of story potential, especially given how the lore describes all the past blights....

Yep. As well as corruption from within Tevinter also screwing things up big-time.I think it'll be set primarily in the north/Tevinter. I anticipate the novel Gaider appears to be working on (he's said on twitter of late that he's writing Fenris again, "for a book") will deal with the state of Tevinter, perhaps with Dorian showing up and whatnot. Then there'll be a groundbreaking novel from the perspective of the Qun, with Sten popping in.
Both novels will ignite fan theory flames for a long while, and in the game both issues will be handled within the course of a single main mission, irritating hundreds of fans to no end.

A double blight action relating with 2 Arch-Demons triggering the last 2 keys to freeing both the Gods and the Forgotten Ones freedom from their prisons.
Leave it to the Tevinter Imperium to trigger the awake of the Arch-Demons in search for help from their Dragon God during a Qunari Invasion.
Morgan saves her mother by accepting her into herself.
Wardens find a cure for the Calling.
The Black City Materializes into the Sky by Solas.

I haven't been active on the forums for the couple past of the weeks, therefore I would like to add my two cents to the topic.
I believe that the nearest main event in Thedas would be Inquisitor investigation about Solas disappearance connected to the elven rebelion in Dales.
What about Dragon Age IV?
First of all, what was said already many times, Qunari invasion on Tevinter. I see that a lot of people underestimate the power of imperial army (In Tevinter I trust...). While I agree that the war would be devastating and the rivers will fill with blood, I don't think that Antaam would be able to conquer Tevinter, at least not the most of the lands located far from the sea. They could as well control the line of the coast, but I doubt that they will be able to even get close to Minrathous. And Qunari would suffer powerful loss, as I believe the key for Tevinters would be to hold them as long as they could on the sea. Then it wouldn't be a problem for imperial mages to blow dreadnoughts up.
The other point for Tevinter is that they have possibly the largest amount of most unique type of mages. The Dreamers. As far as Qunari managed to gain control about their own mages, they still seem to be scared of different kinds of magic, espiecially when they can't control it. And what they could do about mage, who is avalible to enter the Fade and even kill them in their dreams?
War against Qunari is one side of the coin, but I also predict that time period of DA IV would be a season of political turmoil in Tevinter. Assasination of the Black Divine or/and Archon would effect on factions confrontation in the community, making it more difficult to manage the forces on the defence war. On the other hand I wouldn't be surprised if the Exalted March will be called by nations of Thedas as answer for Qunari threat.
I wouldn't also post about the breach into Grey Warden's order, as it seems very clearly after DA:I.
The rest of possibilities is difficult to predict, it seems like we have to wait for new Sandal prophecy.

Warden did exactly that in DAO Awakening. If Warden had not driven the remaining Darkspawns back to the Deep Roads, they could have destroyed more than only Amaranthine. Especially since they were led by that powerful Broodmother.
Next event will probably be about either Calling and how Flemeth is connected to Blight (Morrigan gives some hints about that in Witch Hunt) or Weisshaupt and the Order of Grey (there are bad news and rumors coming from Weisshaupt at the end of both DAO Awakening and DAI).

Not sure I care anymore after the mess that was DA:I
Never have I been this disappointed by a game
I really hope Bioware drops the silly open world and MMO aspect and returns to making a great and lengthy story with awesome characters
Basically stop being desperate and trying to be like Skyrim and do your own thing

The Artitech Finally fixing one of the old dragon god's with the help of the northern grey wardens
Would also be a major impact on the nature of the imperium where the next dragon age is likely to take place
Things seem to be shaping up for the old things before the blights to start returning and the blight to get fixed or changed

I am pretty sure it is going to be Qunari Vs Tevinter war?
Less likely scenario could: Nevarra succession crisis (has been foreshadowed enough) OR Anderfels

Zombie kitten plague starts in Denerim and then sweeps across the continent. You'll wish it was a Blight!

The game began with the Blight, it is only fitting that we eventually return to it. Though, I believe that they will likely save that for the last game. I do believe that there is a connection with the Elven Gods, the Blights, and whatever the Grey Wardens are doing now. Not to mention the Qunari conflict, however, I see that as more of a background conflict, rather than what they would develop an entire game around. If I were to make a guess right now, I would say that the next game will likely feature the Qunari invasion, Grey Warden Conflict, the nature of lyrium and how it is 'alive', and more development, though perhaps not entire completion, of the Solas conflict. Whilst, the last game will have us dealing with the nature of the Old Gods and Archdemons, the last of the Elven Gods and Arlathan, revelations on Andraste and the Maker, the dwarves' sundered connection to the fade and supposed 'titans', the connection between the Blight and Black City, Sandal's prophecy, and the fallouts of Solas's plan - likely related to all of the former.
Come to think of it, that is actually a great deal to fit into just two more games.

It'll be a shame if they cut out a lot potential material just to finish the series that quick. I really hope it won't be the end, but a new beginning....

The Architect's plan, whatever that is. I know he might be dead in half of the play throughs, but I believe he may not be an "awakened dark spawn" but rather a magister of old that entered the golden/black city and has amniasia about his past.
Sandel's prophecy. Good by veil completely and everyone gets magic. It thought his words were going to be referring to DAI, but there are some key points missing: mainly everyone getting magic.
Blights and the truth behind them. We won't ever know the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth, but I hope for more lore.
What the next age will be named and why.
I would of liked the Architect and Coryfish fighting each other in the final battle or at least fighting together

The problem with playing in Tevinter is its unique design.
If you play a mage - you could become very important in the society. If you play a rogue or warrior there is a ceiling.
That's not going to fly with the player base.
And races would be very hard to integrate I think (which would also make a lot of people angry).
