dude...it already is.

Yeah, I'd say that the ship's pretty much sailed. Ferelden isn't considered a backwater turnip field for nothing.

OP, you only want a Renaissance so you can use new weapons and armor for gameplay combat? No interest whatsoever in the overall shift in the cultural, intellectual, artistic, political, or socio/economic environment of Renaissance Europe?

What's more, the Renaissance didn't happen all over Europe all at once. It wasn't like everyone woke up one day and said, "We're Renaissance now," and started crafting new weapons and armor to reflect that. It was a shift in attitude regarding art, literature, and learning, which slowly spread into every facet of their lives (philosophy, religion, sciences, fashion, politics, technology, and the overall socio/economic climate), which slowly spread across Europe as new ideas and attitudes spread.

Since Antiva has been specifically cited as modeled after Renaissance Italy, if we DID see hints of a (physically) Renaissance-modeled society, it would be a game set in that area.

Your magical armor... that endures intence flames and cold, bolt fire infused with magic, raining fire blast and lighting blast, dragon bites, wyvern bites, dark spawn, god dragons and a would be god?

Well to be exact the time in DA is already in the 1900. You see Inq has this in his back in the ball:

Uh, maybe.

Varric's folding, pump-action repeating crossbow with retractable bayonet is basically a steampunk gun without the steam. So I guess... clock-punk? Is that a thing?

Indeed armor was standard issue for both infantry and Calvary units though the end of the 17th century and remained in use throughout the 18th century for Calvary units and for some specialty Calvary units into the 20th century.

Not really. It would lose the Dragon Age feel and muskets and pistols don't interest me. I'm much more of a medieval fantasy gal, although this game takes elements from many different periods so it kind of has its own atmosphere altogether. Whatever it is I like it and would prefer it stayed that way. :P The series really needs a concrete identity after the changes we've already had between previous games. Just my opinion though. :)

If its fair to judge the Free Marches on Kirkwall, they aren't too far ahead. Orzammar too doesn't seem like its left the medieval period, and its supposed to be one of the richest cities. So I'm hoping Orlesian fashion is the only thing that enters the renaissance period, because I'll take gritty-shitty-mucky-dirty Ferelden over the overly shiny Orlais any day.

First picture is of a Nevarran, second is a Rivaini pirate. Interestingly enough, both of these actually look post-renaissance. The Nevarran clothing in particular looks like it's right out of the 17t century.

DontWakeTheBear Greatly Disapproves

I've never quite forgive Fable from switching from Sword and Bow to Guns. I think if they did something like that then it wouldn't be Dragon Age anymore, it be some other Age that came after it.

Your looking at the poor parts of kirkwall and saying this. That's like going to any poor part of mexico and saying they are stuck in the 1800's. the fact they have printed books means they are well out of the medieval Period. the tech and growth of learning is too advance then the medieval period.

I wouldn't say that it's really fair to judge the Free Marches on Kirkwall, particularly when most of what we see of it are the poorest areas. Also, it bears reminding that we've only gotten to see Kirkwall after the massive influx of refugees from Ferelden. A great many characters we encounter throughout are not even Marchers themselves.

As for Orzammar, this is a tricky case, because while the dwarves may be rather advanced technologically, their civilization was decimated by the darkspawn over the ages. A subterranean city in such close proximity to a cataclysmic death horde lurking in miles of tunnels spanning over the continent doesn't make for the most nurturing environment for societal advancement.

I suppose it would depend on how long the DA series will span. If they cover a few hundred years, it would be silly not to have technology/culture advance. But I'd rather they make a new series for that, and just keep DA roughly in the same time period (not exeeding 100 years of  DAO).
