What NEEDS To Be In The "Tempest"

As much as I loved all iterations of the Normandy (SSV SR 2 Alliance being my favorite), what would BioWare need to do to make "your" ship much more enjoyable and memorable?

Reason I asked is because we all have memories of going through the ship talking to crew members, but that's pretty much all.  Run around, talking to members, (upgrading the Normandy), reading emails (or ignoring them), then back to the galaxy map for the next (side) mission.

I would like to do more than that!  Such as, replay missions, arena mode (not tied into multiplayer), customize the paint job of "our" ship, interactive hubs throughout the ship (like being able to get a spectacular view of a certain planet, star, or gas cloud), mini games like Quasar, and the option to replay epic cut scenes.

Now, I didn't mind going to the Citadel to do some mini-games and what not.  I would expect to go to a hub-world to do this sort of thing, but our ship needs to have something else to do aside from crew dialogue then start the next mission.

Name it the Enterprise. Not a jab, I was thinking of the WWII aircraft carier.

Agreed, agreed, agreed, and heck YES! Normandy was good but they could always go further to make our ship, mako, armor, and Hero feel more like they are ours and reflect us and our Hero personality. Some radiant randomly generated "space dungeons" and a couple of mini-games (loved FO New Vegases Gambling) would all contribute among other things towards making the ship feel more detailed. I also liked how in ME3 the squad actually moves around the ship interracting with eachother, so hopefully we see this return. Oh and Sassy new pilot please.

Well if this is the "Ark Theory" ship then we're not talking a small military vessel or personal ship at all. We're talking a giant, multi system vessel capable of crossing intergalactic space with who knows how many thousand of people, millions of pounds of supplies and the ability to plop down self-sustaining colonies.

So it'd be more like a hub world than a starship.

I'd want to see awesome designs, thought out for what the mission is supposed to be. I'd want to see the ME version of Outbound Flight from Star Wars (though with a happier end of course).

Our starship/space station serving as a hub is a good idea.

I'd quite like a little personal space for each squadmate. Kasumi's was perfect, little trophies with stories attached that give you an insight into her personality and history.

I'd also quite like to see the kitchen/mess area used more, even if it's just little companion conversations (like the one between Javik and Vega).

Team briefing room. ME1 had one where everyone sat down to discuss things, though the aliens (except Liara) rarely had input. ME2 had the meeting room where you contact TIM, though the only time the team are actually assembled in there is for the suicide mission. I really like that, it gives the feel of being a team that works together.

Personal stuff in the protag's cabin. I really liked that Shep can collect ship models, fish and a hamster. Makes the cabin feel much more comfortable than ME1's.

I'd like to see the crew as-well as the squadmates take a more active role on the ship. They need to move around; statically in between missions like in ME3 doesn't cut it. An observation deck sounds great which would pair well with active control of the ship, as well as influential cut scenes. The name though, it doesn't carry the same weight as the Normandy. A name that conveys exploration and progress seems more suited considering the narrative; The Space Shuttle Endeavor comes to mind.

-I hope they go with a different name Tempest is just so blugh-

I really liked the circular look of Cerberus' bridge/CIC we briefly saw in Omega and a captain's chair would be nice.

Crew not just squadmates we can interact with and I'd rather the second in command wasn't on the ground team.

And no obvious loading screens.

As we're not with the Alliance or any other military organisation maybe the ship could have a more relaxed atmosphere, no set uniforms, saluting etc, the PC is still the boss but not so much on a pedestal. Playing Commander Shepard was fun but after the Inquisitor I'd like to play something which is more comrade-in-arms than higher ranking than thou.

The official protagonist clad in N7 armor...

fdwcup8j5wuxgjoeww14.png

As well as the Mako, an Alliance Navy vehicle...

Would like to refute your point that "we're not with the Alliance or any other military organisation [sic]." On the contrary, we know for a fact that we are "somehow related to N7," which means we are definitely a soldier again. Part of the reason this "leak" doesn't make any sense is because it doesn't reference what we already know about the protagonist in any capacity. It's entirely based on the Ark theory of being a "pathfinder," which is entirely fan fabricated. Hence, you should really be careful what you read over the internet.

mini games like Quasar

Pff, Quasar is sooo 2183. Allow us to play poker (or some other, Mass Effect equivalent) with our crew members instead :P

Wasn't there a gun called the Tempest in Mass Effect?

Yeah, an SMG in ME2 and 3. Its first iteration was pretty powerful as I recall it, while it's kinda crap in ME3... But no matter, it's normal for certain names to reappear as different things in the world :) if anything, the fact that you never see a single name recur in fiction is arguably more unlikely..? Well, maybe not, but you get the idea :P

I don't actually mind it too much. I think any name will be a bit weird at first because we're so used to our beloved Normandy. We just don't have anything to associate with it, no appearance or memory of it doing whatever. Once we get those first couple of hours in, I'm sure most of us will grow fonder of our 'Tempest' :)

I do like the idea of the player's ship being a hub, but I also don't want to see it become the only hub in the game.

I'm a sucker for customization with tangible in-game differences, so I would love to see the ability to augment our vessel with various kinetic barriers, armor plating, weapon systems, etc. each with their own stats and advantages/disadvantages. I know that this is probably something BioWare wouldn't be able to do, but I would really love to see our ship/homebase really have an RPG/RTS heavy element to it. More than just cosmetic changes, I would want to see tangible effects when I spring for that Remenant shield generator, or install that firing range in my armory. Something like this would be what I would want to see:

If the leak is true We know that the krogan have their own colony ship. So Tempest might not be the Ark ship.

Until we have perfect text to speech + voice imitating software, naming things that have to be referenced by voiced characters just will not happen.
I wouldn't want all NPCs in the game to dodge around saying the ships name, like the did with Shepard's first name in the trilogy.

Uh ... btw, wasn't there a thread like this before? I remember one with a lot more posts in it. Where did that go?

Yeah, Mass Effect strip poker. Invite all the female squadmates and crew up for a game of strip poker in the captains cabin!

Wait what? The krogan have... how do they have anything other than that blasted rock they call a homeworld?

They have zero infrastructure, zero resources, almost zero identity as a species. They were dying out before ME3, scattered and basically killing themselves in random merc work and fights. They had nothing. Their entire plea for a cure essentially boiled down to "help us we don't find life worth living". And they're the ones that suddenly have an interstellar spaceship?

This is starting to sound bad. Really bad.

If anyone should have an "Ark" it's the quarians. Hell their entire world is an Ark. Or the asari since you could take the councilor's word as foreshadowing.

Really, I don't see something like this being anything other than a joint venture of all the races (or at least Council+ Quarians). If you need to do a massive retcon, have the geth build one in secret for organics and that's why they sucked so bad in ME3. But almost anyone would make more sense than the krogan. The only ones worse would be the vorcha.

I think it's 'krogan' as Someone gave it to Them. The way I see it, all the MW races would've a colony ship, so that they can start colonizing different planets. But tberellbe one Ark ship.

Well, we don't know how long after the transfer to the new galaxy the game takes place (if the rumors are true at all of course).

So it could also be that everyone arrives in one Ark ship and they all start out on one planet and then build colony ship there.

That said, I'd hate to have to travel to the next galaxy, sharing a bathroom with 500 Krogan. :o

With Ark I mean a giant, central ship (based on the Ark theory). With colony ships, I mean smaller ships for each races. Possibly, as Mr.Fob and others suggested, because after reaching Andromeda the various races decided to build different ships so that they can colonize different planets (which Turians and quarians have to do anyway).

It would make more sense to build them beforehand and have them ready to go once you find a planet suitable for colonization. You don't know what you'll find  over there in terms of resources or enemies so it pays to be as self-sufficient as possible.

I again reference Outbound Flight which I would absolutely not mind if they ripped off (though I think Lucasarts Disney might)
