As much as I loved all iterations of the Normandy (SSV SR 2 Alliance being my favorite), what would BioWare need to do to make "your" ship much more enjoyable and memorable?

Reason I asked is because we all have memories of going through the ship talking to crew members, but that's pretty much all.  Run around, talking to members, (upgrading the Normandy), reading emails (or ignoring them), then back to the galaxy map for the next (side) mission.

I would like to do more than that!  Such as, replay missions, arena mode (not tied into multiplayer), customize the paint job of "our" ship, interactive hubs throughout the ship (like being able to get a spectacular view of a certain planet, star, or gas cloud), mini games like Quasar, and the option to replay epic cut scenes.

Now, I didn't mind going to the Citadel to do some mini-games and what not.  I would expect to go to a hub-world to do this sort of thing, but our ship needs to have something else to do aside from crew dialogue then start the next mission.

I would like the ship not to be static anymore. Things move, day/night shift happens. And yeah have something more to the ship than simply working as a bus to ferry you around.

I love the idea of decorating your ship with screenshots you took all over the galaxy.

Walk into my cabin and listen to some Ozzy, Iron Maiden and Led Zeppelin. Even better have music playing throughout the ship.

Walk around with a drink in my hand(coffee, water or favorite non-alcoholic beverage)

Depending on how big the ship is, I like to have a firing range for folks to use

Talk with everyone and not just a selected few.

A game room for folks to relax. I walk in see people playing cards or whatever to pass the time.

An internal layout that makes sense.

Personally I just want to toss the helmsman out the nearest space hatch and fly my own ship. It's better than sitting in a private, static instance with the occasional conversation with companions. That's unlikely to happen though. More customization is obviously a given.

Detail and overall visual quality of what Star Citizen shows us to be  possible with state of the art Gaming PCs.

That will never happen as BioWare is console-centric and Star Citizen is only possible on a gaming PC. BioWare would never allocate enough resources to make two separate games (one for consoles and one for PC). The PC market just isn't large enough to justify the investment sadly.

I would like for it to be a really massive, explorable ship that has it's own shuttle that houses the Mako and takes the team to planet surfaces and smaller space stations. A large crew on set shifts and seeming like they have jobs to do would also be a plus.

The name "Tempest" doesn't follow any standard alliance naming code anymore, does it?

Is there a battlefield, city or mountain on earth, called Tempest?

Presumably "Tempest" isn't a military ship. If you go by the Ark theory, it's likely related to the Arkcon Pathfinder Initiative. Again, this is somewhat of an issue considering all early footage of the protagonist was shown with him/her wearing N7 armor and BioWare has stated he/she is "somehow related to N7." Obviously, the Mako is an alliance navy vehicle. Arkcon seems to be something independent of the Alliance Navy, like Cerberus was.

That's what having a smaller ship within the bigger ship is for.

I hope it'll be a bigger ship Then the Normandy, so it can serve as a hub.

It wouldn't be practical for reconnaissance tho.

Hm, if there are no restrictions in class, then being on a bigger ship may be an interesting concept.

I am thinking make the ship a main hub (like the Citadel was in the trilogy). The ship can even trvel with you through different systems. If there are hundrets of explorable planets in one cluster, maybe this time there will be multiple landable planets in one system.

I'd love to see a game mechanic that supports some space flight, controlled by the player (similar to freelancer). If the Tempest if your hub ship in each system, than you could take out a smaller craft (just big enough for your team and the Mako and only with in-system short range FTL) to go to the planets and even have maneuverability in space, maybe even space battles.

Each planetary orbit area could be a space "arena". Big enough to make flying fun but small enough, so that the devs can handle it and make interesting surroundings and use it for story telling purposes. Of course, once you land on a planet, dock with another vessel, etc., you are back to the usual ME gameplay.

It would be a lot to add to the ME universe and frankly, I doubt something like that would actually happen but I'd love to see something like this for an ME game.

So that's what I'd want for a new ship. :)

(to CronoDragoon) Imaging a ship filled almost entirely with screenshots of rocks because the protagonist is an avid rock collector. They were only allowed to bring samples aboard for scientific studies and to avoid contamination so they decided to just take pictures of all the rocks they came across. They even show them off to new members of the crew and dignitaries with so much pride because those rocks are so awesome!

My ship is going to be filled with portraits of Drack against various sunsets, because i enjoy unpleasant implications.

Would make sense if one of the Ark fleet ships was some kind of mobile hub world.

It also offers some cool possibilities. You could re-use the hub to some extent but change it subtle ways, that are not too much trouble for the dev team but may make a rather large difference for the player. E.g. if the ship has large windows (structural weaknesses, I know but bear with me), you could keep the inside maps the same but change their appearance in each system you visit, based on the outside skybox and the lighting.

Are in a system with a red giant, everything is set in a red gloom. One with a white dwarf? Colors are very cold and you get more drastic contrast and sharp shadows, etc. That way, you can give the hub world some variety for low dev costs.

Hmm, this also depends on whether the ship is military or not. For example, I always felt the bar and observation lounge are excessive on the Normandy.

As for what would I like to see?

1. Kitchen with a cook

2. Bunks for all crew members to sleep

3. Research Lab

4. Captain's cabin like in ME1, not an entire floor dedicated to it

5. One central mess hall

6. Toilets and shower not exclusive to the captain

7. One briefing room, similar to the one in ME2 or the one in ME1

8. Armory similar to ME2, located near the Mako like in ME3

9. Engine room

I would also like not to have generic NPCs on my ship. I'd prefer a smaller ship with a small and loyal crew :)
