Guys, I already bought a 650 PSU, a 1TB HDD, bought an NVIDIA GT 630 2GB DDR 128BIT [Bare with me my budget is extremely tight and I am not planning on running games at 4k 60fps.]

My biggest problem now is my CPU... well it's currently an old Dual Core intel cpu way back in 09. I need a major upgrade but here's where the problem comes in...

intel core i3 3220 something is the same price as an AMD FX6300 which is 6 FREAKING CORES... I mean why? what the hell? are AMD CPU crappy? does it overheat? my biggest turn off for the i3 is that it is only dual core! please help

also what kind of MOBO does AMD USE?

How much can you afford?

My suggestion is that you price out cpu/motherboard combos at Newegg. Also, don't forget to budget in memory.

The AMD FX-6300 uses the AMD 3+ motherboard.

ah the 3+ got it thanks. Well I'm still saving xD hopefully I'll get there.... eventually ._. currently looking at the asus M5A97, If my budget won't allow me then I should settle with 4gb ram first

not a computer guru at all, but built my first pc 6 months ago, fx6300 has never failed me at all, used a gtx 750ti which was awesome but threw that in another machine and replaced it with a gtx 960, 500 watt psu, 8gb memory, never failed me once, DAI plays with zero problems with everything on high

Check cases well too, many will come with 2 or 3 fans, mine came with 3, never hurts to keep things cool

AMD usually runs a bit hotter than intel. The 6300 isn't that bad, though I'd go with an 8350 or higher. And honestly when it comes to budget builds AMD is pretty good as far as bang for buck.

AMD's quality wasn't the best for a bit but they've bounced back in the last few years. Like mouse said the 6300 uses AM3+ compatible mobo's so there's that if you go down that route.

If not 4K how big is your monitor? For smooth play on a 1600x900 for current games almost at max you need at least a GTX760 or 960 or R9 280. Series 650 and 750 are big letdowns. I don't know if GT 630 has much power and performance.

I set up the graphic of GTA V on ultra and very high in many options, 4x (the upper AA option) and 16x (the lower option near the end of page) and I have 50 Frames per second which is excellent. Although it says 2500MB (of memory used)/2000. Mine is GTX 760.

8GB of RAM memory is the minimum recommended (get over 1600MHz ones). 12GB is by my estimation sufficient till 2020.

[EDIT] CPU? My knowledge of CPUs is so outdated that I still recommend Core i5s!

My monitor is 1366x768. I am highly pissed right now because Borderlands 2 stutters like hell then I noticed it kills dual cores... the same **** for Battlefield so yeah time for an upgrade. 630 is fine in my own humble opinion trust me. People does say its trash but hey its gold for me why? well my old GPU was a freaking 512MB GT 9400.

an i5 costs more than an FX 6300 sure it has hyperthreading and stuff but still a Quadcore? if I am not mistaken... but anyway it's more expensive >_< for an i5 I could already buy the 6300 + MOBO

its not that simple. an i3 has 2 physical cores with HT -> 4 logical threads. a FX6300 has 3 modules á 2 threads, so its not a hexacore like for example the i7 5820K.
AMD CPUs have a lower IPC than Intel CPUs -> lower singlecore-performance.
overheating is a question of the used cooler. i would highly recommend to use a decent custom-cooler for the FX6300, the AMD boxed-cooler is loud as hell.

generally: i3<FX6XXX<FX8XXX/i5<i7.

btw when buying a FX8XXX, buy the 8320 and not the 8350. the only difference is 500MHz, and you can overclock every FX XXXX.

when buying an AMD FX6XXX/8XXX dont buy a cheap MB. the ASUS M5A97 Evo R2 for example is a decent, not too expensive MB for this CPUs.

I wonder why most of hardware websites don't even include GPU series below X50 (like 520, 630 etc.).

I think for your monitor (wait a minute, isn't it a laptop?) ... a 650 or 750 is sufficient for years. But an upgrade seems unnecessary for now and a few years later you can get a better card if you want.

Here is Battlefield 4 on the GT 630. This was at 1280x1024 native resolution way back when I had my old Monitor... game was like what 25 fps -_- my Cpu is still crap. 169guua.jpg

most hardwarewebsites only care for the "gaming cards", which are the GTX at Nvidia, and the "GTX" label starts at X50. below X50 is the "GT" label, which is more for multimedia than for gaming.

desktop i5s are quadcores without HT. for quadcore with HT you need an i7 or Xeon E3 1231v3 or higher.

because it is crap. you probably dont notice it too bad because of your little resolution.

That's the point it is cheap.

Here's Tombraider 2013 by the way at 1366x768 running on the 630. Frame drops I get is because of my horrible CPU ~_~

i assume its a Core2Duo? and are you sure that the CPU is the problem or do you just assume that it is?

yes it's core 2. It hits 100% mark no where to go... surprisingly this only happens with Borderlands 2 and Battlefield... Bioshock infinite runs fine @_@ and Tombraider also the audio stutters... it's OLD MAN TOOO OLD. It's junk I need to upgrade. Thanks for the feedbacks though... oh and here's Infinite which runs great... I fell in-love with this game.

but why 650W?

It was the only thing left in stock. Others were all sold out. Besides I think its fine it comes with a 6 pin connector... so yeah you know rooms for more upgrades? besides it was only last year. Now if you want a shocker read this... I used to have a 75gb HDD way back from 06 and it run for 8years Western Digital xD it died... upgraded to 1tb XD now I'm stuck with this old CPU. :) slowly but surely... hopefully I'd get there... I'm not aiming for uber expensive gaming Rigs... mid-range is fine for me so long as no more stuttering and choking. I don't mind playing at 40 fps at all [Call me a traitor to the PC race but not everyone has the money].

i hope it doesnt have only 1 6pin connector... should have at least 2 6+2pin connectors. a 650W PSU with only 1 6+2pin connector is very likely crap.

already decided which CPU you´ll take?

probably AMD FX6300. I'm not too confident with the i3... I would go for an i5 If I had the cash but that won't happen. My cousins with their i7 gaming rigs makes me jealous and they do tease me sometimes... it would be sweet for a payback. I would love to play with them and knife them instead of dying because of stutter

Go with the i3, single core performance is crap on the FX line.

Unless you're willing to OC the crap out of them and deal with the heat they're just not competitive.

uhhhhh are there programs that still use single core performance these days? also I checked the benchmark pages and videos... the 6300 handles crysis 3 pretty well stock clock
