Nah better to avoid this and have just fresh faces.

Actually, they never went as far as saying we would. They suggested that it's possible we might.

Well, I hope they do. The leaked game already doesn't feel like a Mass Effect game for a lot of people. Having familiar faces of minor characters show up in the new game/games would help with that.

Meeting people like Conrad Verner again would be weird, I agree. But I wouldn't mind cameos of (politically) important figures like Wrex, Hackett, Tevos, Sparatus, Valern or Liara. We might, for example, need Liara's services. Or the council sends us on some mission, etc.

Depends if We move to Andromeda or not though.

I am really hoping that no one in Sheppard's story will make a return in the next ME simply because the next title should stand up and be judged by it's own merit, story and character wise and not by the sentimentality of past in game characters.

The Council is one thing. They are visible amongst the entire galactic community. The last people I ever want to see is Shepard's crew/squadmates. I don't want to see a single person who served under Shepard. If I want to see them I can go play the trilogy whenever I want.

Knowing half the people you run into is rather lame and destroys immersion and suspension of disbelief. Shepard is planet-hopping across the Milky Way, and he runs into more people he knows, than I do walking my dog around my own neighborhood. And people are asking for more of that ? Not I. I'm trying to get lost in the MEU. I don't want any comfort from sight of a familiar face.

Well, that's the difference between you and me. I don't lend any credence to what some forum user spent all his free time typing up.

Even so, whatever the new game is about there should be at least some connection to the other games since it helps make the universe feel more connected. I agree that Shepard ran into too many familiar faces, but a few minor characters that Shepard barely even knew showing up in the next game wouldn't really be detrimental to the new game.

Being in the military or similar organization it would make at least some sense to see familiar faces at some point, obviously nobody's asking for every gift shop owner to have a cameo.

As for people I want to be in the next game, Maeko Matsuo comes to mind.

You're right. Parasini for squadmate, damn it.

Nah, for real though...I don't need returning characters for it to feel connected. The setting itself is enough. Give me some Mass Relays, the familiar species, and a visit to an established location within the MEU, and it'll feel connected. It'll feel like Mass Effect. I just want to see it from a different perspective. Not as the galactic messiah where entire civilizations rest on your decisions as you fight against the inevitable end of everything.

Well, Bioware did say that some older characters might make small cameos in the new game. I can't really think of anyone who would be the kind of character to leave the Milky Way behind, if it was destroyed or not. Most of them would be dead by that time anyway.

I take it those are the original council? Never saved them so they couldn't be in the next game. I doubt Hackett would make a cameo

or Liara.

No.

We might, for example, need Liara's services.

What services can she provide that would be useful for me?

I would rather have all new faces in the next game

If we're going to another galaxy, none.

Seriously, bringing back Milky Way characters is only going to make the people who can't let go of the past squirm and fuss even more. There is no need for throwback cameos in an entirely new galaxy with an entirely new population of characters.

the whole "could be dead" thing was already solved in ME2, much less ME3

Not much choice is there, unless Bioware considers canonizing. So this will leave a lot of relevant NPC's out of the question.

I can't think of one. Most of the named NPCs are crucible assets and part of the war.. especially scientists.

The only people who feel that way are the people who aren't going to be satisfied no matter what Bioware did, and thus shouldn't have their input given credence. People moaned enough about how the endings destroyed the MEverse, so now that Bioware decides to move away from MWG for a fresh start away from the endings... people are going to complain that the new game doesn't reference the endings and its impacts on the universe? Give it up, the endings are here to stay and there's no way they're changing them now. Acknowledging the original endings any further would be a catastrophe.

There is no way to truly define what Mass Effect is, because its one of those gems that only comes along a couple times a generation. If you're going to tell me those people can't find even one thing in that leak, if it's indeed true, that feels like ME to them then they are trying really hard to be stubborn. Ancient alien race with exotic technology that all the local races are fighting to obtain? Loyalty missions and party member relationship building, as well as being allowed to customize them in ways the original trilogy didn't allow? The confirmation of biotics? Taking the Mako, which can be customized and upgraded, around to explore new worlds? Krogans confirmed? Seriously, all that's missing is galactic politics and... what exactly in there is not an evolution of Mass Effect?

Doesn't matter. They write good political premises, but can't actually tell stories about them. They tell stories with big baddies that people set aside their differences to fight. Even Star Wars, which Lucas said was for kids, does better politics than Bioware. Same applies to Dragon Age.

It will probably be extremely peripheral characters, definitely not squad mates. I'm guess along the lines of Armistan Banes and Kumun Shol.

That would be funny. They were actually going to use Banes in a more detailed Citadel Coup plot (along with Leng and Saracino).

if you hear this part

28:10

you know, even if the next story goes beyond the milky way we're going to see familiar faces and locations.

Perhaps those who exceed their lives hundreds of years as Liara (i hope), Grunt, perhaps Wrex and Aria but those last 2 are very old by the time that Shepard knows them, Edi for sure, she is not tied to a end as organic life.

Perhaps the Geth

BioWare talked about this during Comic Con and N7 Day. It is very likely we will see familiar faces. This is why the idea of going to another galaxy doesn't seem likely because how would we have the opportunity of meeting Liara, Wrex, Grunt, or anyone else who could possibly still be alive depending on how far into the future this is? If we see any characters from the previous game, that means we are likely still in the Milky Way or BioWare will explain some sort of new technology that allows individuals to travel between galaxies quickly. The former, in my opinion, is much more likely.

Personally I doubt any of them will be in thi new story but if any old charactres doo then the only 2 I can think of that are the most likely to show up will be Liara and Wrex

At best, you'll see:

Liara.
Wrex.
Grunt.
Legion.

The latter 3 2 are immortal, the first is young enough and has a long enough lifespan to be present.

But considering all these can be dead by the time you finish ME3, you'll see none of 'em.
