At best, you'll see:Liara.Wrex.Grunt.Legion.The latter 3 are immortal, the first is young enough and has a long enough lifespan to be present. But considering all these can be dead by the time you finish ME3, you'll see none of 'em.

Legion is always dead, as far as I recall.

Whether NPCs from the Shepard trilogy should make a reappearance depends in large part on where and when the game is set, and whether there are plot reasons for those characters to make a reappearance. It is hard to say who should reappear without hearing some concrete details on the game first.

I think the key with any cameos or returning squadmates is that there should be a strong strory justification for them being there. It should feel natural, and not just forced for the sake of nostalgia or fanservice.

If there is any justice in this world NONE, let them die off and move on with a new cast for a new trilogy

Blasto.

It's not Mass Effect without a Hanar Spectre.

He was around, just busy building the ark. And how they laughed at him at the time.

I have this odd hunch that we might see either admiral Anderson or admiral Hackett. I hope it's Hackett.

I have a sneaking suspicion Liara will pop up somewhere but now she's a Matriatch that came up with the cure for space aids. Which is like normal aids but cooler because it's in space. Or something, i don't know... we will probably hear about her atleast.

If she's mentioned and her name isn't followed by "died of a brain aneurysm while on the john" i'm going to be dissapointed. So sick of her and her stupid face.

None of the ME's had one. Blasto is a dumb actor... like the Tom Cruise of Mass Effect. :P

Well, my personal Ark Theory says that the new ME will take place centuries after resettlement in the new Galaxy. So there are two ways we could see old characters.

1. They didn't wake everyone up from stasis at once, either to conserve resources during early settlement or some other reason, so an NPC from the trilogy could appear that way.

2. Previously I was against having any communication with the Milky Way, but I've been thinking: what if whoever was on the MW end of the connection was killed by the Reapers and the facility was only rediscovered centuries later, around the time the new game starts. That way we could talk to Liara or Grunt, and get a non-resource intensive window into the wildly divergent Galaxy states that follow ME3.

It'd be the easiest possible way to tell players what happened afterwards without showing it - just info dump with 3 different dialogue versions.

4, with Refuse you can still have Liara being all doomy and gloomy about witnessing the total destruction of the cycle, and have the colonists patting themselves on the back for coming to Andromeda.

Shiala diehards: Now is the hour of our ascension!

The colour change thing was a scam. Instead a cloned version of her from the Thorian survived & then came back and assumed Shiala's identity.

If it means we get 'Shiala' as a companion, I'm all for it.

BioWare will, of course, do what they want.  but I'd rather not see anyone I recognize,  I wouldn't mind news reports mentioning different characters.

That said, I would not complain if Lieutanant Girard (I remember Me) talked to my character once in awhile.

Only if MENext completely takes place after ME3. But if MENext starts somewhere before the end of ME3, even if most of the rest of the game takes place after.. That would create overlapping timelines, possible limited "data import" (there will be a keep-thingy, count on it), give room for cameos, give a sense of connection to the previous games, even if it gets railroaded into an entirely different direction..

anyone but Liara, I'm tired of her being shoved in Shepard's face, so no for her in the new series

One of the conditions the PC had to accept to own the ship we travel in was to have a holographic painting of The Glorious One (Liara) on top of his/her bed. Worst of all it has it's own emergency supply, so even if the ship has its power cut the painting will still be on. Luckily you can choose to say or not the praises to The Glorious One before you go to sleep.

The OP brings up a good line of reasoning as to the continuity and how they would have to do it to avoid cannonizing anything. Its a shame most people in this thread either didnt read the actual original post or in some cases simply didnt understand it.
