And if we find life chances are it will be stupid bacteria, not something worth the effort of killing and taking their land. Where is the fun in that?

Finding any alien life, whether it be a microbe or an Asari, would be a monumental find.

I think that was irony. I'm a Yank though, so don't take my word for it.
But finding microbes on Mars would be huge. It would raise the possibility of life being extremely common in the universe, since it would then have been found on two planets in the same solar system. It would also raise the question of whether Mars might be our ancestral home.

I need to read up on this thing to see if there are other applications other than spacecraft to be honest.
In my mind the only thing that could be better is finding Grathnode and Parameno on Mars.
Other applications.
Lower powered versions could be used as aircraft .. You know to fly people places on Earth.....
Cargo lifters. I used a similar idea in a story I am writing as cargo pallets to move heavy things in a warehouse.

Screw microbes let's find those Prothean ruins

I wouldn't jump ahead that fast. Its gotta work in space before they find ways to bring it down here, and there are a load of other issues they'd be dealing with trying to make this work within the gravitational pull of Earth.

Indeed but the ideas alone of what COULD be done.
I'm excited.

Closer to 70/80, and even then thats just when they begin to do stuff in space.
This is more for the next few generations than us.

I'd say that it would be way more useful in watercraft, unless we can make even bigger aircraft for it.
Cross ocean ships put a lot of greenhouse gasses in the air.

Any practicality for stuff down here with us is VERY far off, so if anything I'm excited for my grandkids' grandkids.

I could see it progressing more quickly if more than the US get in on it, and it becomes a Humanity funded project.
And 5 years ago do you think that we'd be talking about this?
I could see it being even 10 years if it's done with the right budget and by the right people.
By then I could be a computer program.

If it really works and they can scale it up to encompass a space vessel, that's pretty amazing.
Actually there are probably way more down to earth applications. It is warping space. I'll be honest, I don't even understand what that means really. It's always represented in a rather abstract way, with "spacetime" being 2d somehow.

If the government threw some money even toward it, that time could be half probably.

Gravity. It'll cause some issues with the distortion of space/time. This is why all their projections are space-worthy right now instead of earthbound.
Somebody just put Peter Capaldi on the case and he'll figure it out. And keep Steven Moffat the hell away.

How much you wanna bet this technology makes gravity bombs before it takes us to Alpha Centauri?

But, government pretty much won't invest much into it unless it has some military potential or something.

Alpha Centauri in 90 years sounds great, but gravity bombs? Nah.
