They just need to meet with that guy who built a warp drive in his garage and they're set.

Were the NASA guys all wearing shirts with half naked ladies on them?

On a serious note, I find it all very fascinating. The macrocosm is immense, terrifying and hawt all at the same time.

I watch the universe undress via my telescope tbh. ಠ_ಠ

Well, this is great, if really doable and possible. Tough, still mostly useless unless we develop FTL travel.

It is great how sci fi inspires us to look for the real thing.

If the cosmic background radiation of different sectors of the galaxy doesn't somehow translate to chiptune music relevant to the dominant local alien species I will be disappointed.

Thank god I was never around for that, for those of you that did, I'm surprised you sleep at night lol.

Well i was emotionally scarred many years before that and I found it funny in a sad way about fandom in general and I miss its purity. Yes I do sleep at night. Yes those threads are twice as weird as you suspect them to be.

Looks like Physicist Miguel Alcubierre was right all along. Not going to lie, I'm ecstatic. I sincerely hope the vacuum test is successful, let's face it the way things are going throughout the world we desperately need this.

I'm going to set my expectations to the absolute minimum. Something as major as this genuinely could be the single most important discovery in human history, so I don't want to be let down if it turns out to be a false positive.

My expectations are low...but this would be ridiculously awesome if it panned out. I'd probably be moved to tears just by seeing man take its first steps on Mars. To see humanity move beyond its own solar system would be mind blowing.

Indeed, imagine the resources needed for it. No one nation could pull it off, it would force us to get our **** together and work together.

Not according to Mass Effect :P and I doubt it'll be much different in real life. The ability of going 'out there' probably won't be enough, it's what we find out there that could do it. Could, not will.

Humanity on the whole as a race is dumb. If we'd all stop fighting over things like children on the playground and actually work together we'd already be way closer to the advancements we dream of accomplishing.

But hey, lets see where this goes.

Humanity as a species is brilliant, given how long we've existed.

It's the individuals who make up the species who are stupid.

Nature on the whole is 'dumb'. If a bacterium, for instance, mutates and stumbles upon the ability to quickly spread, but also kill it's hosts in the process, it will. Even if this will ultimately doom the bacterium to extinction because it's hosts dry up. Nature is brutal, merciless and completely exempt from morality.

And considering we are a part of nature, we're actually doing rather well.

I disagree, but I'm being a bit optimistic. I think the money required to build any potential ship plus a means of overcoming many of the dangers of space travel would require us to work together.

That would depend on a lot of different factors, but lets not get ahead of ourselves. First lets figure this thing out, then lets go over how to proceed.

I do hope there's some unification behind this should it actually be replicated within vacuum.

The scientists are going to destroy the world by accidently creating a black hole.

Or we'd all be wearing loincloths, shitting in the streets, and worshiping the sun and moon as gods, cause technology and military advancements have gone hand-in-hand with one another since the first human figured out how to carve wood and tie objects together in order to make a spear, or that roads and boats meant easier times for armies to travel from place to place.
