It's nothing but speculation.

You know I'm right.

Now drop your gay erections, nerds.

This needs to be a slogan on a sign during some protest. I don't care what everyone else is protesting, but I just want one guy there angrily waving a massive sign with that on it.

The scientists are going to destroy the world by accidentally creating a black hole.

Just you watch.

If they accidentally create a black hole, I won't be able to watch.

Nature on the whole is 'dumb'. If a bacterium, for instance, mutates and stumbles upon the ability to quickly spread, but also kill it's hosts in the process, it will. Even if this will ultimately doom the bacterium to extinction because it's hosts dry up. Nature is brutal, merciless and completely exempt from morality.

And considering we are a part of nature, we're actually doing rather well.

Well, nature isn't quite that 'dumb'. Disease bacteria and viruses tend to throw a spread of strains. Diverging in lethality, among other things. Natural selection then, over cycles, weeds out the "less successful" (=killers). Eventually a suitably painful, lingering disease remains.

Typically leaving the posterity to wonder about things like "Spanish Flu?", "The Black Death, what was that about?" (No, it wasn't Yersinia pestis, that's just science being obstinate and stubborn, like Dinosaurs being cold blooded - which they weren't - etc cases).

You are, of course, correct. The finding still needs to be validated. Which I state pretty clearly in the OP. But uncertainty doesn't make for a sexy thread title. :)

There are few things I'd like more than to have to eat my words of skepticism. Unfortunately, it's not going to happen. (Can't hurt to raise the stakes  ^_^

Despite their weak credentials & Freudian stereotypes, Psychologists are technically scientists

I get the feeling that even if this is replicated the governments around the world won't care and won't give the funding necessary to develop the technology. Either that or they keep it secret and use it for military purposes.

Oh come on of course they will do that. Humanity doesn't want to grow up

Humanity on the whole as a race is dumb. If we'd all stop fighting over things like children on the playground and actually work together we'd already be way closer to the advancements we dream of accomplishing.

But hey, lets see where this goes.

I beg your pardon it's not humanity at fault but those we put in charge.

We elect them and they spend most of that time fighting.

Meanwhile other groups of humans fight over some stupid belief system and kill each other and attack other nations .....

Humanty hasn't past its toddler phase.
