I don't see that happening unless life alien to Earth shows up in orbit. :P

I hate to go all Debbie Downer here, but suddenly the Fermi Paradox is coming to mind.

The Fermi Paradox is easily explained in the below infographic.

Needless to say, there are still doubters. Basically, there's some requests for comments directly from NASA as well as reviews/peer-reviews.

Let the peer reviews come! Retest your experiments, bridge keeper, I am not afraid.

A monument leap in science and human exploration of the Cosmos.

But chances are we'll have to wait 20-30 years before they have a prototype craft since NASA is not getting any love.

Welp, physics as we know it has been shattered. Looking forward to see what comes from this, even if the government does not want to do anything or they run into mechanical issues, the fact is we now have proof it can happen is big news.

My workplace is going to have little clue why I am so damn giddy.

Scratch that, I'm pretty sure they already expect something is wrong with me.

I gonna hope that advance civilizations have some sort of device that detects when a Warp field is generated telling them a new race is ready to be uplifted.(Or exterminated)

What I'm reading tells me that you can use electrons to generate thrust, something interesting, but not earth-shattering. It means great things for the chance of creating a scenario wherein which people could go to Alpha Centauri in 94 years (which is the estimate given in the article) but isn't the leaps and bounds movement the title has made it seem to be. No FTL here.

You're all kind of blowing this out of proportion. Yes, it's interesting that the EMDrive can break a law of physics, but I didn't see anything about FTL or a warp field.

I highly doubt aliens will be how we picture them....plus why they view humans as attractive?

You underestimate our ability to put out to non-human and fictional characters. Thus, the romances...

I am not even going to pretend I understand this, so basically they have created a field where time is sped up, so anything moving through the field looks like it is moving faster when in actuality it is just experiencing time at a faster rate? Can it be used to age cheese and wine at a faster rate?
