Indeed. However, I am of the mind that if the budget has to be split between the two, I'd prefer SP get a much larger share. As much as I love ME3MP, I'd prefer a better SP at the expense of the MP.

The reason I play MP is because I love the game mechanics of the game but hate the single player story. If the story was amazing I am sure the playing time between MP and SP would be much closer

It's usually something like, they get x dollars to make the sp game, or x+y dollars if they make a sp game plus add mp. The mp dollars didn't come out of the sp dollars. Also the ea ceo guy said all their games will have mp from now on, so it's moot in this case anyway.

I'd rather they get x+more dollars for the SP and y-that dollars for the MP. Fund both but put more into SP to ensure it is a superior experience.
