Stealth/FPS:
Dishonored - I have a soft spot for this game. As do most people. The gameplay - if set at a higher level - is challenging - without being overly punishing. Playing through on a peaceful path is incredibly rewarding. The stealth is great. The environment/world design are beautiful and wonderful. The lore is interesting and bizarre. There is a forbidden and underground religion that worship this humanized space-whale god. And he's just really yummy.
Half-Life Series - To be honest, I don't even want to know you if you haven't played this. JK. It's a fantastic FPS. The story is awesome. Gordon Freeman is awesome. EVERYTHING IS AWESOME. It's just a fast-paced and super fun FPS. Really well designed. Especially the first one. The story is fun and crazy. If you played Portal, you should play this one as they are part of the same universe. Also there is mention of Aperture in the 2nd game and...EASTER EGGS.
Serious Sam - The first game took the bro-y shoot-em-up of Duke Nukem and just made it funny and awesome. Serious Sam is serious. Seriously Awesome. And Seriously a Badass. The gameplay is great though. It's fun. Bloody. Gorgeous. Sam is honestly one of my favorite dude protagonists.
