Went into it at level 24 using mainly Iron Bull, Varric, and Dorian on Normal (swapped Cole and Cassandra in and out from time to time for more banter).  A couple of the boss fights were tricky,  But with some potion usage and gear upgrades I got through it just fine.

About the same for me, with Cassandra, Dorian, and Sera. Had to tinker with my strategy a few times with the next-to-last boss battle ...

... but otherwise, it was challenging yet manageable.

I LOVED it. It was tons of fun having a challenge on nightmare. The rift with four pride demons was epic. I think it was the most fun I've ever had at a rift. At this stage in the game, I want a challenge to test out all my gear that I crafted and whatnot. At the stage I played it (level 24) I had the Inquisition perk that increases your focus (Master Focus) as well as some focus accessories so that my Mark of the Rift popped quite often. I usually used it on those irritating bowmen. If it's too hard just bump it down a difficulty level, essentially making it pretty much the same difficulty as the main game.

I loved it!

It's one of the few zones where I actually felt like my high level gear was needed. I'm a completionist, so I'm generally over leveled by mid game.

I enjoyed the challenges it presented.  It was nice to actually plan for some of the harder battles, instead of just steamrolling everything.

One of the fights was a bigger challenge than I was expecting on normal. After getting my butt kicked a couple of times, I got serious, geared up properly, and went back and kicked his butt.

I'll have to try it on Nightmare.

Spoiler

That fight took me two attempts. I didn't have any real difficulty with the rest of the dlc though. It was harder than the rest of the game yes but that made it more enjoyable when you managed to beat it. There were a few fights that I scrapped through by the skin of my teeth though. I went with the Girls Cat, Viv and Sera they're the party I know best so the one I know how to control in sticky situations.

I managed to run through it on normal at lv20 with my archer, the only real difficulty I had was controlling my fear of spiders :)

Honestly, if you want to just roll through it, you can play it on casual at almost any level as long as you have potions and guard on most of your characters (or at least two mages to barrier everyone up).  So if it's too hard, just turn the difficulty down: there is no shame in that.

On the other difficulties, though, especially nightmare... it's actually challenging.  It's wonderful, considering that everything after level 4 or so in the main game was so easy.

Just because some people find it easy on Nightmare or whatever hard lvl they choose to play it on, doesnt mean its easy for everyone.  Reason probably being, they do nothing else but play games and are used to it.

Second of all, I said it was stupidly hard AT THE END, not the rest. The actual DLC easy was a piece of ****** for my party, just the two end bosses, which in my opinion were too overpowered to be enjoyable and let the game flow just like it did before.

It was unbalanced, thats what im saying.

Im not critisising the main game which was in my opinion totally balanced and flowed perfectly.

Either your strategy is bad or your gear.

My gear was fine, all purple, full powered. My point was it was unbalanced at the end game.

Purple is not everything. Better to use crafted gear for special encounters. Either that or you lower the difficulty. Like the others said: There is no shame in that.

DLCs have always been a bit harder.

This is completely correct. If folk on level 27 are dying on Normal then the game is challenging them to make use of the decent quantities of additional materials in this region to cope with it.

I was playing on Hard (having completed the main game) and took it down to Normal, but I also crafted Heal-on-Kill weapons and Generate Guard armour for all my party, so when I went into fights, all my party would be recovering to full health and my rogue and mage would also be engaging with full guard.

It may not only be the OP who has this complaint,

but in my opinion it is not really fair to level it at BioWare, who are responding to player feedback.

i did that on nightmare.

Craft gear for specific areas and encounters, it will make your life easier in JoH. Also get the resist potion recipes and use them.

I enjoyed and was relieved it was tough. Did it on Nightmare :D

The dragon fight was easy, but the last fight before that was VERY VERY tough.

I thought it was hard, even on normal on level 26, but it was still enjoyable. Usually enemies down so fast now at my level that it's not even fun, so it was a nice change.

The thing is, people who want the game to be hard and complain that it is is too easy tend to be playing on nightmare already. And the people who want the game to be easy and complain that it is hard tend to play on normal or casual. So upping the difficulty all around may solve the first group's problem, but it creates one for the other.

Better would be to just stretch out the difficulty scale. Make nightmare harder for the people who clearly want a challenge, while keeping normal/casual easy for those who don't.

I'm one of the people who aren't interested in a combat challenge. I want it to be easy because I find that more fun. How is the difficulty on Casual? Doable or is there still a spike?

I completed the DLC on Hard with a Knight Enchanter. The archers in particular were able to take me down quite quickly, so I had to revise my plan of attack. I didn't have too much trouble with the boss fights but I did notice that control companions were a lot more useful. As in I actually needed someone to keep a few mobs out of the fight while I handled the others.

It's supposed to be hard, duh. Why even complain about this?

It's my understanding that is exactly what was done.

Casual and Normal as before but higher level.

Hard and Nightmare harder than usual.

I like the difficulty. :)  Makes it more exciting. However, I'm really not too overly fond of one particular mob.

I'm one of the people who talked about how easy the main game was, but I wasn't complaining. I kind of like finding the game easy (I play on Hard).

I'm not looking forward to JoH.

It's the Bogfishers I find difficult.

One or more stray mage blasts and I'm joined by a Bogfisher or two trampling my ass...  :D

Purple is not everything.

So true. I hardly ever use them... well, maybe sometimes at the beginning stages of the game. Basically any gear you craft yourself is ten times better than any of the purple "unique" gear. In my game all the purple gear ends up into the storage chest as keepsakes. Sad really, but they just cannot compete with the crafted gear, no matter how unique they are.

Especially crafted gear with guard on them. They are really useful as I play a DWR.
