Stupidly hard? Not really. Stupidly annoying? Extremely.

Darn spider respawns with cheap poison attacks that is design to harass you and waste potions. Stupid companions keep running off in different directions fighting them ignoring orders to disengage.  <_<  <_<  <_<

I will go with annoying as well. The number of just random wandering nothings that aren't hard but massive damage sponges irked the crap out of me. I hated having a new pointless fight every few meters.

I found it reasonably comfortable going on Casual, but yes, I agree with "annoying". Pointless fights are pointless and a waste of time. On most maps, they're ok as a change of pace while exploring, but there were too many of them for the time you wasted on a single encounter in JoH. I really like the other aspects of JoH though, so it isn't a big thing.

It's a high level area, but I found that fun. Maybe you don't use very good tactics?

The respawning spiders were the only things I didn't like, mainly because I just can't leave the giant spiders unkilled.

It's impossible to leave them unkilled when they throw poison at you as you're trying to run away.

Not impossible, but it may require a few presses of the Disengage key to insure it.

Oh, I was exaggerating. Either way, they're really annoying.

I don't have a problem with the difficulty (I was playing on nightmare)... However, there's a "conspiracy theory" type of thing that bugs me... It's those &#%$&#@ hakkon dagger rogues who seem to be specifically designed to counter my KE!!!!

*removes tinfoil hat*

Those bastards can almost one shot my KE, even with a "fattened" barrier, leaving him with 1-5% health and 0% barrier, in one hit  :crying: Imagine my surprise when I went carefree in the middle of a hakkon group for the first time, and got obliterated... They're far worse then the red templar rogue thingies (or at least it feels that way)... lol

But no, other then that, with a good group you have no problem. It's difficult yes, but not horribly so.

Yeah, those damn dagger rogues can kill my fully barrier'd and guard'd KE in one hit.  :P   Careful use of Fade Step and Fade Cloak while never staying still for long became very important.  Also Static Cage (Stay over THERE).  And for the first time I had to really think about Spirit Blade's ability to deflect arrows; it's saved my bacon a number of times.

It can be a little irritating, as I like to run my KE like I did my AW, as a tanky mage, but it's still fun and I really enjoy the challenge.  In my post-game files, JoH has added a lot, since I can still run around there and be challenged by regular encounters.

When I want to go, I just keep running.  The rest of the party will have to jump after you get far enough.  I can't entertain them every time they get all worked up over some fearsome fennec or whatever.

On yeah those buggers. It would seem that their attacks r like design to strip barrier and guard. A couple of them ain't that bad but I once ran into like 4-5 in a group and when they all start to back stab at once, well... Nothing cept walking fortress will survive that. Their infinite circle atk is cheap as hell too.

The multi swing they perform is the atk that rips barrier and guard I think.

As another mentioned, Static Cage works fairly well against them like a glyph of repulsion/ attraction.

Yes, cloaked stabby rogues are a pain.  If a battle against a group of Avvar seemed too short, go into high alert.  Barrier up, and keep moving around quickly.  (Fade step is lovely.)  If you detect them (sometimes you can) cast a good AOE spell like immolate on them.  Or just immolate your own party after a bit, assuming no friendly fire.  They still get through sometimes, but this will help.

Another thing to keep in mind is how important health is.  It is by far the most important defensive stat.  Guard is 25% of your max health.  And, for example, 50% extra health = 33% better resistances, defenses and armor effectiveness.  Health up that crafted armor, arms and legs as much as you can.  Equip an enhanced or superb health accessory.

Ugh just ignore the spiders. How hard can it be? The fight trigger range in the game is pretty short. They aren't giving crafting materials and XP either.

My first playthrough was with a Rift Mage, with a party consists of 1 melee tank and 3 ranged, it wasn't that difficult except for the fight in the area where you have to wait for Harding. Gurd fight was a pretty intense though.

My second playthrough was with a DW Rogue Assassin, party of 2 melee and 2 ranged. In some areas it was easier, but for most of the DLC it was more difficult. Now I had less CC to deal with the archers and the maul warriors became a major threat, but I wiped the floor with Gurd, that was pretty weird, also Hakkon dropped very quickly. The 4 despair demons were killed instantly by Mark of the Rift lvl 3 and Static Cage combined, so it was hilariously easy. The Ice Giant was a major pain in the ass, I had to do multiple resurrects and I couldn't do massive damage to him without him knocking me around.

I finished Jaws not too long ago on Normal with Blackwall, Dorian, Vivienne, and an Artificer Inquisitor.

Everyone has plenty of cold resistance on their armor so I didn't take much damage from anything using ice and I even beat those Level 30 Despair Demons at 24. Really great that I can farm Fade-Touch mate without RNG, but I wish there was a way to farm Ice Dragon Bone and Ice Dragon Hide.

. . .

Ignoring them is as easy as staying away from water streams.  Take the high roads.

Using a Mount along the waterway may also be helpful, but should be a sturdy one.

It's hard. I enjoyed it.  Finished it on the difficulty that's lower than Nightmare...whatever that is.

It was difficult compared to the normal game, but it was refreshing to actually have to use strategy with my high level characters instead of just brainlessly slogging through the fights. Most annoying thing about it is the constantly respawning spiders, but I guess that helps artificially spice things up instead of turning it into a big empty map once the quests are completed.

It could have been better if they didnt

Give enemies cheat skills that immediately breaks barrier/guard and put your hp to like 1%. 80% resistant, 1% hp left if hit. 20% resistant, 1% hp left if hit. I tried different armor and setups and found that regardless of my defense, most enemies have a skill to take you down to 1% health like immediately. That is just cheap difficulty implementation.

The giant, the second boss - I always end up killing them solo because this implementation resulted in my companions always dying and I was lazy to control them.

Simply annoying.

I don't really remember where exactly, but at one of the waterfalls (I think it was one of those with multiple steps, like a staircase), there's a dragon skull you can gather for what I imagine is a random number of ice dragon bones (I got 7). Of course it's fairly useless anyway, not enough of those :P And I see they haven't added any of the ice dragon mats to vendors (including in Descent, which does add quite a bit of normal dragon mats though, so that's nice).
