Of the characters that I think are likely to show up again:
1. Maevaris Tilani - she's awesome and fascinating and the World of Thedas vol. 2 has hinted she could well go on to be an important player in future events.

2. Rasaan - again, a character from the comics WoT is hinting to become more important by becoming the new Ariqun, or at least accompanying our dear Stenishok on his adventures/invasions. But why I've put her on this list instead of the Arishok, is because she seemed just a little bit more unstable, and with the hinting that IB gave us about the Qun being what's holding the qunari's bestial nature back, putting someone like Rasaan in charge of such an important part of Qunari society...such an interesting thought.

3. Calpernia - really for similar reasons as Maevaris. Failing Mae as a companion in the future, I want Calpernia. The only thing I'm a little wary about with Calpernia is that the writers seem a little too fond of her. And I think when they have liked characters in this way in the past, they stop showing flaws, faults and failings in these characters.

But of the characters I don't think are likely to show up again:
1. Vivienne - she's my favourite. And while as Divine Victoria, I'm hopeful she'll have at least a behind the scenes influence, as not, Vivienne is probably unlikely to ever show up again beyond something like a codex entry. Which makes me sad. I'd love to see either Viv or Vicky's story continue in extended media or hell, just a whatever happened to? thing. But given her marmite-ness, that's unlikely.

2. Velanna - again, one of my favourites and best of all voiced by Grey DeLisle. But she's not mentioned in the Keep. Right now, my only hope for ever hearing anything more about her is with Seranni and the Architect.

3. Shianni - still love her to bits, but with the DAO epilogue being largely retconned I feel like I'm never going to know her ultimate fate.

1) Solas.  Because dat stinger.

2) Calpernia.  Like a lot of characters in Inquisition, she can't be killed on-screen, and she's a fascinating character.  If we're going to Tevinter, she's a pretty obvious candidate for coming back.

3) Dorian.  Because Tevinter, and Best Mage.

In the DA4 thread I said I wanted a prequel, maybe all the way back to the fall of Arlathan, so none of the current cast of characters would be born anyway -- well, okay, none but a handful.

But if we get a sequel, then:

1. Zevran

2. Leliana - particularly if she was hardened and did not become The Diva

3. Morrigan Dorian

I didn't want Sera calling me an "old nostalgic poncyfart," if I went with an all DA:O slate. While I think Morrigan got some of the best writing and Claudia Black's VA was awesome, her story is played out. Time to make room for someone new.

3. Fiona - I know her fate will differ by play-throughs, but after learning of her backstory (I hadn't read the novels) I felt her story with Alistair was never really resolved. Plus, if the Circles are rebuilt it'd be interesting to see what role she plays in whatever internal mage conflict is coming.

No,Fiona no please, i would rather force  my Warden to make love with the  Mother  rather than see her again.

Nothing against the following characters, but I would prefer not to see, or see very little of (Varric, Morrigan, Hawke, and Leliana) because they have already had a tremendous amount off screen time I think.

If they drag in more characters from their franchise fiction, I just hope they'll do a better job with them than they did with the likes of Celene and Briala. As someone who doesn't give a toss about tie-ins, I felt as if I was "supposed" to know and care about certain people, yet the game itself never gave me any real information or reason. That's just damn lazy.

I'm not wholly opposed to bringing in tie-in characters -- hell, Cole is my new all-time favourite Bioware character. He was handled extremely well. Everyone else that I think is a tie-in character, though, was definitely not handled well.

For me characters I'd want ended too soon.. before DA4 so I'd never and ever see them again are:

1. Solas and any other elven gods & spirits......

2. Cole

3. Leliana, Cullen, HOF and Morrigan......

Don't care much about the rest.

I do want to see or hear from the new Arishok.

-Edited- Though if they made Cole more human so he behave like a normal person instead of reading chants or whatever he is saying.... I'd prefer that for sure.

1. Dorian - his plans for returning to and trying to reform Tevinter are left wide-open, and since Tevinter is constantly referred to but never really seen in the games, I think it'd be interesting to explore the region and get a peek at Tevinter society.

Yes, I'll go along with this. Even if he decides to stay based on the Inquisitor's dialog option he does add the caveat, "for now." So to me it's open that he might still decide to return.

I'll also throw Calpernia in there along with Dorian. Although I've never finished out the templar path, I've read about her and the whole thing seems interesting.

1. The Warden's companions apart from Leilana(Due to her story being wrapped up in Inquistion) and the Warden if he/she is still alive.

2. Hawke's companions due to their stories not being wrapped by by the end of DA2.

3. Everyone's favourite purebred marbari Warhoud with a perchant for stealing staves from elderly mages and his never ending quest for cheese. Dorian, Cole,Bull and the rest of the Inquistion. Provided Cassandra stops breaking the Inquistion's supply of tables after being caught reading Varric's smut.

Solas - For obvious reasons.

The Architect - Such a fascinating character. My canon state Warden didn't kill him and I have wanted to hear more from him ever since then.

Anders - Also not killed in my game. Did Justice take completely over, is he still in hiding or did he eventually get captured or what?

Samson - On mage path he's alive no matter what. On templar path, his fate is unknown. There's still room for growth.

Dorian - Tevinter has been the spotlight of various conversations so many times, yet we have never seen it. I do would like to visit Tevinter and see whether Dorian's efforts will bear any fruit and how he copes in general. (My Quizzy would also heartily approve if he could somehow tag along. He has... personal interest in Dorian  :P)

1. Solas - Not sure what happened at the cliffhanger.
2. Hero of Ferelden. Will s/he find the cure? Will s/he die at the effort? And will s/he ever reunite with their love interest? (And the fact that Zevran stays with the Warden if romanced only makes me curiouser)
3. Hawke - what happened at Weisshaupt?! Or, alternatively, was it possible that they could have survived the Fade?

Enquiring Minds need to know!

Personally I hope for a DA game with an entirely fresh new cast with no characters from past games (PCs, companions OR NPCs) carried over, whether it's a spinoff set in an unrelated region or a prequel/future era. Not because I don't like any of the DA characters (quite the contrary!) but because I think Thedas is a pretty big enough world for new faces and sagas to begin.

Anywho, if I DID have to see stories continued, I'd say this:

01. The Divine (Leliana, Vivienne or Cassandra)- I'd hope that whoever made it to Divine stays that way and the writers don't pull a Captain Anderson on us. Whoever is Divine should bear a significant effect should she make an appearance in DA4 (such as a Chantry-related mission or region. If Leliana is Divine we should see a more diverse Chantry, if Vivienne it could be the traditional status quo, if Cassandra it might be more militaristic/templar friendly and so forth).

02. Vivienne- Divine or not, she's the character that I was extremely hyped for, yet her role seemed much smaller than hype built her to be. In a way that's good because she's still one of the most interesting characters to me. If she was Divine, I want to know how she's affecting Thedas. If she wasn't, I want to know what she's been up to (and think she'd make an extremely interesting plot point, especially if DA4 deals with Tevinter and/or the nobility). As a character who can pretty much make not just lemonade out of lemons, but sparkling lemonade in a sugar rimmed wine glass garnished with a citrus, she's got amazing potential in the DA-verse. Especially if she becomes a minor (or significant) villain in DA4 (working with the big bad out of power).

03. Bianca- We've had Varric's side of the story for two games, now I think it's time for Bianca to shine. She'd make a great companion with her snark, she's a genius inventor (the crossbow), has ties to the Merchant's guild, and in spite of her not having such a warm Inquisition appearance, I think she has a chance to redeem herself for DA4.
