Anyone Else Accidentally Choose the Wrong Ending?

Confession time.

It took me a few days or a week or so to complete Mass Effect 3, but when I got to Priority: Earth it was about 3:00 AM. I was dead tired and wanted to sleep, but also didn't want to wait till the next day to complete the game. So I stayed up and completed the game, and by the time I got to the decision chamber I was both exhausted from lack of sleep and stupefied by the Catalyst reveal. In that sorry state I somehow missed that Shepard was supposed to bank right to choose Destroy and was expecting a prompt after going hey diddle diddle up the middle.

....and to my horror Shepard suddenly took a swan dive into the green beam of Synthesis.

Anyone else make the similar blunder on their first playthrough? Or did anyone have their first playthrough after the Extended Cut was released, and end up accidentally choosing Refuse by shooting the Catalyst?

Sounds exactly like my first playthrough.

Fortunately, I save frequently, so was able to reload and shoot the tube.

I didn't save, and had to go through the entirety of Priority: Earth again to choose Destroy.

Nope.

On 3/8/12, at 0234, I walked forward, took a right, walked up the ramp and then took a left and pulled the trigger.

They preyed on the subconscious desire of most people who like balance and the middle path.

Except it's not that at all. It's suicide, for the sake of some robots.. mass murdering robots, to be exact. Blame EDI and all those times she looked at you like a cute little sister.

I made the worse mistake of killing Tali and the Quarians at first myself. I literally restarted the game.. since my saves didn't go back far.

I was up at 2am as well, nearly finished in a daze and then the game crashed to desktop - I took it as the game telling me to goto sleep. Woke up and finished it with a clear head.

I just sat their waiting and thinking, apparently waiting so long that the mission failed. I didn't make the wrong choice as much as I didn't make any choice at all, sort of a funny experience for my first time through.

I wanted to get a close look at each of the mechanisms, so I walked up to the control mechanism, looked at it, then tried to walk away but was unable to. I was forced into control.

Happened to me too. That little bastard manipulated my tired mind into thinking synthesis is the best option... So I also took the swan dive in to the green beam

I chose Destroy the first time, but ultimately settled on Synthesis as my canon ending. So yes, in a sense, I chose the wrong ending. It was not accidental, though.

How people manage to miss the in-your-face instructions attached to all three endings is beyond me.

I walked the path halfway to Control then turned around and went all the way for Destroy. I was even contemplating along the way that it is the destructive nature of humans speaking in my mind... Never regretted it.

If you read the OP, you'll see you one of several examples of how it can happen :)

Another is that people associate blue (Paradon) with Anderson and red (Renegade) with Illusive Man.

In my case it was one part fatigue and one part only half paying attention because of how stunned and annoyed I was by the Catalyst reveal. I think I might have even talked to my dog during the Catalyst's ramblings. "What the f-ck is this ****?" I don't recall if I expected an answer.

Oh my God! It happened to me the same thing! Glad to know I am not the only one ^_^

I reloaded choosing the Destroy ending, because the other two options are just crap.

That is exactly what happened to me. It was about 02:30 and I remember being completely confused (the confusion started after the lift). I had to redo the beam run onwards to shoot the tube.

Sadly that means Bioware probably thought my original choice was Synthesis. If any Bioware employee is reading this, DON'T BE SO DAFT.

"If you read the OP," she says, as if I ever skip the OP.

I was in the same boat -- up late and sleepy -- but still found my way.

Not like it took any hard thinking or anything.

No, I was wide awake when I made my choice. But it was annoying as hell having to go through all those cutscenes again and again so I could see all four endings.

I think the problem is people were confused by the dialogue (like what is a 'synthetic' limited to?) and wanted to investigate each option to see if there was any more information. The game does erect an invisible wall though once you get close enough to a certain choice so there's no going back after a certain point.
