There are a lot of daggers in the game. Some of them clearly resemble RL ones (like Carta Fang - kukri), some others don't (Graceful dagger). Also Stiletto, which doesn't very well fit description "dagger with a long slender blade and needle-like point, primarily intended as a stabbing weapon".

Should in-game weapon (excluding staves) have RL prototypes or not?

I don't care, it's a game with at least one leg firmly in the realm of fantasy. Not everything has to be realistic.

Just as it should be.

There are enough fantasy elements (dragons and even one zombie-unicorn). Equipment, architecture, characters should be more realistic (though, the characters are good now). It makes the game's setting believable. Stuff such as "Graceful dagger" is just hilarious and breaks immersion.

Realism is cool. We have daggers at all because they're real things and they're cool - but people get carried away with the fantasy side of design and make them look less like real daggers which usually makes them less cool. So yes, I'd like it if they based things more off real life things.

Not that I actually mind invoking rule of cool for unrealistic things, but it actually has to  be cool. Like dragons, not weapons that look like they were made out of cardboard for twelve year olds.

I had to look up the Graceful Dagger. It looks like a crowbar.

Dragon Age's designs have always better the more grounded they were, their artists don't see that apparently.

It's just a matter of degree again, as usual. I for one hate FF style weapons (swords 1.5 times as long as the character wielding it etc). You need to consider, however, that you always (well most of the time, *cough*) have a choice. As you say, there are historically accurate *and* more fantastical daggers around. If you like the former, then pick one of those, and leave the latter for others who may not share your preference.

Now if DA:I had only offered fantastically crazy weapon designs you might have had a point, OP. But the way your post comes across is 'remove dagger designs that I don't like because <reason>'. And I detest the idea of removing the last shreds of choice this game actually offers, even if I personally tend to gravitate more towards the realistic than towards the fantasy tip of the scale.

So I stand by my firm 'no' to your suggestion. Choice is good. Removing choice is bad.
