Fallback plan and combat roll

Fallback plan was actually the opposite for me. I loved it when i first played hunter but after time started to see the cracks in the veneer. It invalidates HoK and always seems to wear off right before you need it. I found myself using it only when i wanted to Rambo for a few seconds. But only found this mildly useful and decided to go with other things. I might try it again on an ambush hunter build (i haven't played hunter since i got LotG).

The whole Combo king build depended on many advanced concepts and is a bit of a crowning achievement for me. No one else discovered, publicly played or announced that build and playstyle at the time, and it was radical.

Loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool.

I hate fallback plan.  I almost never remember to use it or as stated above the thin wears off.

"Fall back plan!  Lisa needs braces, Fall back plan, Lisa needs braces...Fall back plan!  Lisa needs braces."

I thought it was useless at first but the more I use it the more I like it. Just as long as you set the fallback point out of harms way. Any way I can get free heals I will take them.

It kind of works against razors edge and all that too. Unless you take hook and tackle.

Grappling Chain

Pommel Strike

Payback Strike

Spike Trap

Fade Cloak

Frost Step

Fire Mine

These two abilities I did use initially, moved away for other builds, but came back to them.  Granted, with the current P2P lag these are best used as host.

Combat Roll

Evade

Probably spike trap for me.  Just started using it for one of my archers.  A very nice addition to just the normal archer ones.

Counterstrike. When I had just started playing the game, I looked at it and I was like, "6 second taunt and some guard for 60 sec cooldown and 65 stamina? No way!" and I promptly ignored it until recently. I've been reading all the threads about changing up the characters and people have been going on and on about the usefulness of counterstrike, so I gave it a try... and I haven't looked back.

Are Block and Slash and Parry worth anything? I assume B&S is modal, like Shield Wall, but drains stamina. How does Parry work?

Upgraded Spike Trap while in stealth. Not necessarily the best ability but easily the most entertaining ;)

Explosive shot on the archer. Before my cunning was high enough I felt it was a waste other than for the knockdown.

Found myself using Fallback Plan, Evade, or Spike Trap with Longshot and Leaping Shot as staples. I guess like most early on in their DAMP careers my Archer had issues surviving. Now I can't go without explosive shot.

Longshot, Explosive Shot, Longshot, Explosive Shot, Leaping Shot closest mob to back up, Long Shot, Explosive Shot, Longshot.

You can usually just run Longshot, Leaping Shot, repeat. The cooldowns usually come back up fast enough that you don't need to toss in a third.

True, I mentioned that is how I played it for a long while. Recently fallen in love with using explosive shot as the primary secondary attack. Leaping shot still gets used quite often but more defensively or if I'm backed up against terrain.

As long as you have some distance. The delay on exploding shot can be annoying, part of why I don't like using it.

I can't tell you how many walls I've jumped into using leaping shot. One time I jumped over the rail on some stairs to save myself and looked like a boss doing it, but the other 99% of the time it doesn't work out that well.

LIke SW, you can block attacks in front of you. Unlike SW it consumes stamina both maintaining it, and for the slash portion, and it only works on Melee (not ranged projectiles). It costs 5 stamina per second just to keep up, and then 50 stamina for the slash portion. If you don't have enough stamina, you're in big trouble, and enemy attacks may break through the block portion. The slash typically does knockback foes in addition to damage.

It works great vs shield bearing targets, stunning them or knocking them down depending on their attack state.

The tiny little abilities that nobody ever takes: Pull of the Abyss, Firestorm, Hidden Blades and Walking Bomb.

But I love 'em, anyway. :)

Kidding aside,

Sadly I think I see more AW's who don't use Pull of the Abyss, than ones that do.

The few times that I have actually leveled my AW, it's the first thing I run for after spirit blade.

Drives me crazy being in matches with AW's who never use POTA. It's one of the few abilities that can make it a group friendly class to play.

Dear Diary,

Today, my Elementalist specced into Firewall and replaced Immolate with it.

Why the F did I not do this sooner?

Love,

I know right! My first elementalist build was, well, unconventional. Immolate, lightning bolt, winter's grasp and something. Can't remember if I had barrier or fade step. It has since evolved to firewall, firestorm, barrier and fade cloak and hot damn am I invincible or what.

Finally! Try it with Ring of Fire Wall, if you have one, for the super long duration (longer than its cooldown).  I get a lot of complaints telling people to do just this, but it is definitely worth doing, because it is better for everyone.

Every time I do a build with it I'll play 1 match and never end up using it, so it's useless to me. I grab stonefist instead, spam that and chain lightning and try to set off nightmare combos with my staff.

If I ever get that ring, I shall endeavor to do so!
