1 word morrigan ,but she was more stupid evil.
I never got the idea Morrigan was evil. Self-interested, maybe, weird ideas, yes, but mwa ha ha evil? No.

A relative and subjective concept that can be extremely difficult to reach an agreement on (especially when one is discussing with the poster you're responding to).
So you said you might like someone like Avernus. I actually have a very similar point on my wish list. Do you have any ideal scenarios for the role that character might play in your party, or in the story?
Thank you, Brogansity. Personally, I'm fine with The Iron Bull (though I do wish his voice was more consistent), but I've really enjoyed your contribution.
Big fan of the Honor spirit Mabari, that was fun.
My friends had expected him to be a pretty Bro-tastic kind of guy, which Dorian ended up being more. (I trust the stache now.)
His mission felt far too heavy handed for me to care for, and the voice inconsistency also bothered me a good deal. I'd label him my least favorite companion in the game for all of these reasons...Possibly the whole series so far as I've played (never played Dragon Age II, so can't say it so definitely).
And yeah, i want Honor to be a real thing so bad. ![]()
How about my wishlist for who should have been companions in this game?
Cassandra, Solas, Varric, Vivienne and Dorian can stay.
Iron Bull, Cole, Sera and Blackwall basically have no point in the story, let alone being made companions, the characters you get to know best. So toss them.
To the 5 above we should then add:
Lelianna
Cullen
Hawke
It makes far more sense, or at least it might if they fleshed them out more like actual companions, for those 3 to be companions in place of the 4 pointless ones I mentioned earlier. Seriously, those 4 are basically the equivalent of making Scout Harding a companion. Yeah, might be interesting, but she's a side character and has no real place in the plot outside of her little role as the briefer before you enter a new level. She doesn't need to be made more than that, and those other 4 companions either shouldn't have been in the game, or relegated to side roles.
Plot importance is something I feel is overemphasized when it comes to companions. If we were to pare down the list of companions that were actually integral to the plot in every Dragon Age game put together, we'd be left with less than half of the central cast. After all, there's only so much you could have each companion contribute to the main plot, and this is made even more limited by the fact that recruitment can be skipped over, or you can kick them out or kill them before the main conflict is resolved.
It's interesting that Cole made this list though, since he basically serves the same basic purpose that Dorian does in the mage route, and both can be booted right after each respective quest is complete.
So my ideal game setting would be Tevinter. The game would revolve around the Tevinter/qunari war, with ending affected by the actions in the game. Depending on the choices done in the game different exploration area options would open up in the game. Seheron, Rivain, Antiva, Nevarra, Anderfels, Par Vollen. PC and his company has fame ala BG. Good or bad.
Actual origins would return for the PC ala DAO. Including the effect in the story and ending. For the companions. There would be a set of basic companion available, above that there would be a set of optional companions to choose from depending on the story choices. All can be dismissed or driven away by decisions and actions in the game. Everyone would be player sexual romance vice, or bisexual. Each romance would still get their own special arc though, no copy paste. Pursuing a romance with a person totally against the players origin/personality/choices in the game would be hard/impossible. Decisions again. Oh yes, and gifts are back.
Companions:
Warriors
Imperial soldier/officer human male (basic companion)
- a veteran of the qunari wars. Stoic realistic person, is used to loose companions. Has no mercy for the qunari. Is the weapon master of the team. Writes poems of the war for his own enjoyment, not very well though.
dwarven warrior, male (basic companion)
member of the dwarven ambassadoria. Dreams of recreating the dwarven Imperium once again with the help of Tevinter Imperium. Has a thing for human females, will pursue human female pc automatically.
Anders warrior, human female (optional companion)
Wanted to become a warden, was dismissed. Can throw a fit of the slightest of issues. Resentful against wardens because of her dismissal. Has anger management issues.
Fog warrior, elf female (optional companion)
Calm, goal oriented. Likes to use her feminity to achieve her goals. Has a secret agenda, the freedom and independence of Seheron from both the Qun and the Imperium.
Fex warrior, humanoid male (optional companion).
Likes to smash things.
Mages
Altus mage, human male, Magister (basic companion)
Master blood mage (finally some impressive and cool blood spells). Conservative and patriotic. Egocentric to a point, but still pragmatic. Wishes to use pc for his own goals, to acquire more power while getting name to himself as a savior of the Imperium. Is a reserved person since doesn´t believe in sincerity.
Laetan mage, human female, (basic companion)
Battlemage, a veteran of the qunari wars. Suffers from combat fatigue. Wishes to retire as she feels she has done her share for the Imperium. Joins the pc for this reason, last effort for her. Wants to have a family of her own before is too old. Will pursue pc automatic for a romance if shows interest in in family through discussions.
Slave mage, elven female (optional companion)
ends up in the hands of the pc through the decisions in the game. Has a beaten personality but will open up and became her own person if given a change. To romance her has to be a paragon.
Mortalitasi, male mage (optional companion)
Joins the pc because is certain that qun question needs to be resolved. Cheerful personality. Is also obsessive-compulsive, has to have everything in order. Is aware of this trait but thinks it s advantage for a mage.
Vashoth, female mage (optional companion)
Roams the countryside. Helps peasants against bandits and beasts out of free will, not a mercenary (optional companion)
Strong willed but friendly, kind and caring (Merrill/Tali kind of character). Finds other races fascinating. Can be possessive, especially if romancing the pc.
Rogues
elven female (basic companion)
Ex slave who won her freedom, now a soporati in the Imperium. Has dreams of becoming a member of the Senate and bringing more equality in the Imperium.
Likes to steal from mages. From pc even if romanced.
Dwarven female (basic companion)
A runaway from the dwarven ambassadoria family. Wants to find her own place in the surface world. Is a anarchist but a secret romantic in her heart. Romantic story decisions can cause her to pursue the pc, such as helping two lowers to get together. Oh yes, and freckles.
rivaini pirate, male (optional companion)
Came to the Imperium though a contract. Stayed because loved the decadence atmosphere. Slaver. Everyone has a monetary value for him.
Antivan Bard female (optional companion)
Fledgling bard. Likes to play lute in the camp. Not a spy but pure entertainer. Joins the pc in order to create a immortal song for her name to live on. Composes songs about members of the team, and their relationships and how the story progresses. Some of them can be heard in taverns during the voyage depending on the choices. Songs can increase or decrease pc´s fame.
Free marcher female (optional companion)
From Ansburg, is in it for the money. Wants to become a rich person. Smuggler. Would pursue pc romance vice automatically if pc is from a wealthy family. Impulsive, can get into trouble because of it.
So, origins are for each races. Yes, even for a Vashoth in the Imperium. Four of each companion style is the maximum per team but it is also affected by the decisions made by the pc, who is available and who wants to join. So not necessarily so much at one time. Also, romance vice the pc origin/decisions/discussions can have a affect so that companions can pursue him/her on their own.
I love your concepts OP, especially these:
- The Fog Warrior/Gladiator
- The Valkyrie
- The Female Dwarf Warrior
- The Elven Bard
- The Avvar Archer
- The Tevinter Battlemage
- The Rivaini Seer
- The Tal Vashoth Mage
I really like that they combine aspects I really want to see. The female dwarf warrior combined with someone fun and humorous. The female Tal Vashoth mage with a personality you wouldn't expect. The Tevinter who's like 'a more charismatic Loghain'. Excellent!
I've had a couple of character ideas:
-Possibly someone like Michel de Chevin. They wouldn't need to be a chevalier, but it would be interesting to have someone who was the bodyguard to a monarch (especially from an unexplored nation, like Nevarra, Rivain, who was disgraced when their charge was assassinated. They can offer information about the place, and have an idea about noble political maneuvering. They're looking for a new purpose in life.
-Dalish hunter/warrior. For a different perspective to the two Firsts we've had. This Dalish hasn't been exiled, and intends to return to their clan once their task is complete (you could perhaps influence them not to). They're proud of their culture/heritage, but also friendly and curious about other cultures. Somewhat similar to Ariane from Witch Hunt.
-A demon. We don't know what they are when we recruit them, because they're hiding in human/elf form - like Imshael. Not sure what their goal could be. If their intention is to possess you, then they only join after you've gained noteriety. It could be for self-preservation reason (like ME2's Morinth helping on the suicide mission). Once you discover what they are, you could strike a deal (therefore keeping them as an companion). Or kill them, banish to the Fade. If there's a blood mage on hand, possibly bind them.
-Human con artist and thief. They join your party under false pretences. Previously, they wormed their way into the good graces of some noble you will have to deal with in the main story (e.g. if this was DAO, Arl Eamon), but the con went wrong and they ran off. Encountering the noble will lead to the con artist's secret being exposed. Unlike the demon, they have no intentions of harming you, and are more of a 'morally grey', roguish character than 'evil'.
Edit: It could also be interesting if two companions knew each other in some way prior to joining your party. Like if they were spouses/lovers, siblings, or even parent-child. They could be from different walks of life - e.g. a Warden and a Chevalier - yet have that personal flavour to their interactions.
A desire demon in particular could work well with this. That also means we don't just have a repeat of the Justice/Vengeance story.
Personally, I'd like to see an Avaar barbarian companion, either male or female.
Maybe we could also get a true apostate mage companion, someone whose magic significantly differs from the traditional Circle-based system?
Also, it would be cool to have a demon/spirit companion kinda like Imshael (who could take multiple forms). Might be kinda broken as a companion but would be funner than Cole, who was just a normal rogue in combat.
Claudia Lynx would be my pick.

I'm digging your wish list, Vesperia. Especially...

this one. I really like your ideas on how to react to the discovery. So much RP potential.
Plus, I loved Imshael, and the Morinth mission was one of my favorites in ME2. If they could bring some of that flavor, that would be fantastic.
Do you have a particular preference when it comes to their motives, regarding whether or not they want to possess the PC?
No
You make a compelling case...

What kind of personality would you like in the Rivaini Archer?
Also, not to be picky, just to clarify: Qunari Mage, with the sewn mouth hedge magic thing and all, or a Tal Vashoth?
A relative and subjective concept that can be extremely difficult to reach an agreement on (especially when one is discussing with the poster you're responding to).

Tal-Vashoth or Vashoth depending on people
As for the Rivaini Archer, I guess a fun but serious side

I feel that there should be a point where certain types of companions should be mutually exclusive with another, especially if they're something as extreme as a desire demon. At least one of the companions would understandably be opposed enough to the notion of traveling around with one of those that they'd leave outright.

See, this I'd like to see.
. . .really, I'd like to see more ways for companions to leave, amongst other things.

I suspect that for the duration of the series, Loghain will remain the only companion that requires us to lose another. There is the Hawke sibling, but it's not really the same thing.

The opposite sibling is really moreso a temp follower (assumed; didn't play second one), or a 'Red or Blue' choice.
And yes, I believe that too, and I am sad.
For romances it would be interesting with a bit more assertive woman. So far all we've had (aside from our dear pirate queen) have been kind of "Oh, teehee, what is this love thing you talk about?"

Yeah, where did this sort of thing go in Bioware games? In DAO you could pick Loghain and lose Alistair, DA2 had Bethany or Carver die as the result of your class, ME had you choose to leave Ashley or Kaidan behind on Virmire, ME2 had you choose whether to side with Samara or Morinth... it seems we've been moving away from this sort of dynamic in the recent games, it needs to come back?
Although I'd prefer it wasn't always a life or death thing, but instead was simply the result of perhaps alignment, favour gained with whatever potential companion and perhaps even our character being able to choose who tags along?
It'd be nicer to boot companions we don't like, because sometimes I really don't understand why we're forced to put up with them for the entire game? Dragon Age and Mass Effect have been relatively free of characters who I actively dislike (at most I'd say I'm indifferent to a few of them), but SWTOR irked me in how I was forced to recruit Skadge during the Bounty Hunter storyline despite everyone in-universe (and most of the fandom it seems) actively hating him and wanting to throw him out the nearest airlock?
Hrm. . .I just realized that T.R.I.B. could very well be an Ash Warrior, given he's a berserker. . .Which means MORE MABARI! *demands T.R.I.B. and Honor be a double Whammie comedy duo*
But yeah, on the topic at hand, I hope we aren't in a position of power again like we were in Inquisition: gives us more time and resorces perhaps to focus on actual companions and maybe a get a good bit more variation in them.
