I feel that there should be a point where certain types of companions should be mutually exclusive with another, especially if they're something as extreme as a desire demon. At least one of the companions would understandably be opposed enough to the notion of traveling around with one of those that they'd leave outright.
Perhaps if kept a secret it will not get that far, but yes, if you travel around with Cassandra you would naturally need to pick between her and the demon I would say.
if they added one to this current game, ser barris without question, but my dream one is a straight female elf or qunari romance option, humans bore me and that was my only choices in this game
Then you would need to do a dwarf inquisitor and romance the qunari chick.

Yeah, where did this sort of thing go in Bioware games? In DAO you could pick Loghain and lose Alistair, DA2 had Bethany or Carver die as the result of your class, ME had you choose to leave Ashley or Kaidan behind on Virmire, ME2 had you choose whether to side with Samara or Morinth... it seems we've been moving away from this sort of dynamic in the recent games, it needs to come back?
Although I'd prefer it wasn't always a life or death thing, but instead was simply the result of perhaps alignment, favour gained with whatever potential companion and perhaps even our character being able to choose who tags along?
It'd be nicer to boot companions we don't like, because sometimes I really don't understand why we're forced to put up with them for the entire game? Dragon Age and Mass Effect have been relatively free of characters who I actively dislike (at most I'd say I'm indifferent to a few of them), but SWTOR irked me in how I was forced to recruit Skadge during the Bounty Hunter storyline despite everyone in-universe (and most of the fandom it seems) actively hating him and wanting to throw him out the nearest airlock?
Aw, I missed Sifr. And now he probably won't even be back for days and days again. ![]()
I wouldn't mind the return of the alternate companions generally, but I'm not very attached to it. The only time I really liked the application of it was with Carver/Bethany. I thought that worked perfectly within the story. With the Virmire situation, I had a few problems with the implementation.

Definitely want to see a fog warrior, though I imagine it would be more interesting to see them as a specific rogue class. With all the tidbits we've gotten on the situation in Seheron in this game, I really want to see the next game (or a DLC) get the players involved.

It probably would have worked better if the bomb site was further from the site that the other squaddie gets pinned down on, because whenever I play that level, I'm wondering why I don't have time to go back considering Ash or Kaidan are only down the hallway from where you are?
If the real reason that they had to stay behind was because the Geth had disabled the remote trigger and the timer (or were going to do so), so it had to be manually prepped, I'd have accepted it a lot easier that I must leave them behind? That's probably the reason that was intended, but it needed just a throwaway line to make it clear that's why they couldn't fall back for evac?

I liked the Rivaini Seer idea. What about a Rivaini hedge witch who's not/more than a mage? Someone who purposely invokes certain spirits to possess them during battle.
Even better if this was actually a male companion. "Witch" and "hedge witch" refer to a type of magic, and are not technically gendered, so that might be fun to explore.

More female non-human companions for starters. Aside from Awakening it's been pretty much diverse as far as male companions go but mostly human with females.
My thoughts exactly. I also wouldn't mind them being romanceable while they're at it.
Human women and the occasional model-thin elf is not the ONLY standard of female beauty and desirability, thank you very much. (BioWare: Take note of the popularity of Dagna, Sigrun, Harding, and the DA2 female Qunari concept art. People clearly like this, so jump on it rather than just giving us human woman after human woman after the occasional elven woman.)

With the amount of wants and hopes players are placing on the next lot of companions for Dragon Age 4, I'm gonna be pretty wary.
I mean, some of you guys are well into double-digits with your list of companions and I'm thinking "...If anyone's seriously hoping that they'll all be in that one game, that'll be a bit much to write in, yes? If so, how are all these characters going to fit in the story, while the main plot continually ties them together and still get equal screen time as companions?" Then again, I'm going to assume it's just a list of companions wished for and not the complete set of companions wished for.
I've a feeling that the next game will either keep it at nine companions or probably they'll probably reduce the line-up to a smaller number, and I think the latter's more likely.
Still, it's just a wish list. I'm just keeping in mind about some limitations that game development and storytelling may present as I'm thinking up my own list...
EDIT; ...Okay, first of my list is a dashingly handsome Qunari rogue with stag antlers, kthnxbai.

haha I think people are just hoping that one or two of the companions from their wish lists make it. That's how It usually works right? 'I really want x, y and z, so I hope to see one of them.' It's less to do with picking and choosing what we want and more indicating some previously mentioned things we'd like to see expanded or directions we'd like to go in.
There's no doubt the writers will bring us interesting and complex characters, there's just some things that seem more interesting than others.

It seems others would like to see some of the same things I would: characters having some sort of relationship with each other prior to the player meeting them, gaining/losing a character through alignment in a way similar to Carver/Bethany (rather than how they may or may not turn on you at the end of DA2), etc.
And of course returning characters. In that regard, I'd personally love to see Krem returns. Perhaps the other Chargers, as well. That'd certainly fill the "characters knowing each other before the story began" criteria. Scout Harding would be another one I'd very much like to have as a full on companion. I've seen some say Abelas, too, and I hadn't really thought of it before, but now that I have, I think it could be interesting. We could learn more about the ancient elves through someone like him. I actually thought Solas would be somniari - is that how it's spelled? Erm, a "dreamer" like Feynriel - or an ancient elf that had been in a sort of stasis until Inquisition. Obviously that turned out...differently, but Abelas was remarkably close. So that could be quite a good companion to have around.
As far as new characters go, I really like the idea of an elven bard. Someone like Briala, without the connections that she had, perhaps - flying under the radar, as it were, nobody noticing that they are, in fact, a spy.
I'd also like the return of a Warden as a companion. We always seem to have one, so really it'd just be continuing a tradition, no? ![]()
If we're moving north, there's a lot of potential for completely new characters, too. A Tevinter templar could be very interesting. We'd gain a new perspective on magic in Tevinter and they wouldn't be the traditional Southern, mage-hunting templar.
I'd personally like to see a female (perhaps another female-only LI, but I am admittedly biased) who joined up on the belief that she'd actually be helping to keep mages more in line, protecting their slaves and the general public from them crossing the line. That wouldn't work out. Obviously. Maybe she's disenfranchised with the whole thing and left - surely quitting would be easier without the lyrium addiction that southerners are plagued with - and that's how she came to join up with the player. Maybe she's still there, corrupt, having lost her faith and simply doing as the Magisterium dictates.
Or perhaps go the complete opposite direction; joining the templars for an easy paycheck, to get in good with the mages (perhaps by smuggling lyrium, forbidden magic, slaves, etc.), or doesn't much care what mages do until they see what's actually going on and want to do something to change it. Plenty of possibilities, and I'd love to see any of them.
Saarebas is definitely another good candidate, especially for the north. A true Tal-Vashoth, on the run from both their own people that would bind them, and the hated 'Vints. I actually wouldn't mind if they believed they were a monster but still simply wanted to be free, or if they though the Qun was a load of bronto dung and ran for it when they realised they had magic.
More dwarves are always good, too. Barring Harding, I'd definitely like to see another female. As previously stated, we haven't had any rogue Wardens in the main games, either. This could kill an improbably number of birds with one stone if they decided to make a female dwarf rogue Warden ![]()
And lastly, I think I'd like some poor guy - from any sort of background - that just gets swept up in events, has no idea what's going on and doesn't particularly care, and decides to just go along with it. "Why? Eh, it's fun! Why not!"
We already had this to an extent with Varric, Zevran, Shale and Sera, though they all believed strongly, in their own ways, for the cause or the people they were following. Hawke was similar, in that, played a certain way, they were merely trying to survive and found themselves in way over their head. So they made callous jokes and went along for the ride. I'd rather like to see that in a companion. If written properly, they could have quite a lot of depth but still act as comic relief.
In the end, I imagine I'll be happy with anybody. Bioware's characters have always been so exceptionally well done that they quickly became my favourite part, and I don't see that changing if they continue to focus on companions the way they have thus far.

I wrote one of these a while back: I have the game set in Tevinter, with a little side of Antiva. Basic storyline: The Qunari invade.
Tevinter Magister/Imperial Father - Male Human Mage - Believes in the Tevinter version of the Chant, practicing the sanctioned version of blood magic. Quest involves consolidating power, removing terrible self-serving magisters, but can be influenced to do this bloodlessly or with extreme violence (Leliana is a contact of his, and she shows up in one mission). Married, but his wife dies over the course of the story, and females can romance. Personality: Righteous, downplayed holy
Xenophobic Dalish - Male Elf Warrior(2H) - Believes in Elven supremacy, dislikes humans (and is fairly ambivalent to dwarves). Tries to secure a future for the elves. Personal quest involves getting his clan away from danger, where it's revealed an elven magister is trying to sell them into slavery, and his sister (the Clan's Second) falls in love with a human. Romanceable by elves, but the relationship is different for females (romantic) or males (FWB). Personality: Sour, racist against humans, hidden heart of gold
Jaded Antivan Crow - Female Elf Rogue(Dual-Wield) - A former guard for a Princess of Antiva, who was distracted by a Crow while his allies killed her charge. Given the choice to join the Crows or die, she joined. Personal quest involves taking contracts, only to realize her old friend is sabotaging her dead drops, getting her to kill Crows instead of her targets. She can join with him and cripple the crows (Mission includes Zevran) or renounce them and kill them (mission can include Ignatcio). Her friend dies either way. Romanceable by any, but treats the relationship as purely physical, requires effort to make it love. Personality: Jaded, world-weary.
Rivani Seer - Female Human Mage - Young apprentice studying in Tevinter before undergoing her Seer training, joins up to protect herself from Qunari Invasion, and to learn more. Personal quest involves meeting with spirits (Including Wisdom, Purpose, and Survival) to understand her training, chooses to not become an abomination like most seers, and approaches spirits instead as allies rather than tools. Only romanceable by women. Personality: Bright, bubbly
Proud Dwarven Exile - Male Dwarf Warrior (2H) - Dwarf living in the Tevinter Embassy. Former Orzammar warrior, but dishonored when he chose to save his men from darkspawn over a pompous noble who was getting them all killed, and banished to the surface. Desperately dreams of returning to Orzammar. Personal quest involves exploring the Deep Roads connected to the embassies, and learning ancient forgotten history about the dwarves. This, plus several artifacts are used to petition a rescinding of his exile, but is refused. After completing quest, can be convinced to keep trying or start a new life on the surface. At first, he is only romanceable by male dwarves, but if convinced to go to the surface, can enjoy male humans and elves. Personality: Proud, glorious
Recurring Character: Adorno Ciel Otranto - Male Human Rogue(Dual-wield) - Antivan nobleman formerly connected to Josephine. After their marriage did not go through, he returns to Antiva. Is caught in the conflict by the qunari, and joins up because he knows Antiva, with it's lack of army, won't stand a chance. Personal quest involves rebuilding the Otranto name, cementing trade alliances (guest appearance by Josephine). Romanceable by women of all races Personality: Flamboyant, passionate.
Recurring Character: Speaker Viuus Anaxis - Male Human Mage - Mortalitasi of Nevarra, who joins up when he realizes the true extent of the carnage the qunari are wrecking, and aware they will not stop with Tevinter. Personal quest involves reclaiming old artifacts and chasing a former apprentice of his who turned to blood magic and became an abomination (Cassandra makes a guest appearance). Not romanceable. Personality: Pragmatic, but believes in saving lives
Imperial Templar - Female Dwarf Warrior (S/S) - Tevinter soporati who serves a noble house as their templar. During a journey chasing criminals, she encountered real templars in the south. Her magister master decides having an actual templar would make for a powerful weapon, so she's trained in secret. Highly resistant to lyrium and it's effects, but is worried about the long-term effects. Personal quest involves rescuing her husband and children from a serial murderer mage chased from Orlais (Cullen has an appearance) Is married and has children. Has lived on the surface her whole life, and cares not for Orzammar. Not romanceable, but gives advice on love when interest in other companions is shown. Personality: Determined, motherly in downtime.
Recurring Character: Charade Amell - Female Human Rogue(Archer) - Free Marcher and cousin of Champion of Kirkwall, Charade expands her Red Jenny operations from Tantervale up towards Tevinter. Gets mixed up in the battle, knowing that the Qunari will not be kind to the common people. Personal quest involves taking Red Jenny operations, which transition into helping her family. (If alive, one mission involves Bethany or Carver, another involves Hawke. The last involves both Hawke and the sibling). Romanceable by men of all races Personality: Capable, friendly.

you have a specific idea in mind (Avvar shield warrior with red hair, one eye, and a secret fondness for lowlander poetry)
If he's hot and into guys, that's basically my ideal companion.
Otherwise I'd like to see someone from the Anderfels who isn't associated with the Wardens since I'd like a perspective on everyday life there and a Tal-Vashoth qunari (preferably a mage) because I'm sick of being surrounded by Qun apologists.

I'm one of those poor sods still totally hung up on past companions, and would love to see more of them return as party members, or temporary party members at least. That wish list includes Zevran, Shale, Fenris, The Iron Bull and Dorian. I'd also dig Krem being a companion, actually. I would then put Fenris, Krem and Dorian into a party and popcorn.gif that Tevinter catastrophe.
In terms of new companions though, definitely on board with Fog Warriors. I also want female Qunari, because *yes*.

You mean that thoroughly unlikeable character that the writers were trying to make "cool" far too hard, only to utterly fail because we immediately disliked this self-centred jerkass? It was a game that less had the player following his story and more suffer through his presence, whilst lamenting into their controllers how he was bringing down a franchise that they'd previously adored?
It might just be me, but when creating a charater, Anakin and Poochie is not what you should be aiming for?

Interesting subject here. I'll try to post my thoughts
Rouge-
Ex Venetori soldier (DWK rouge)
She was loyal to Capernia until she was put on a covert mission to the Hissing Wastes or some other location and realized she was to be a "disposable soldier". After realizing this she became a mercenary for hire. She is very bitter about being discarded and thinks that being part of the hero group she have the same situation happen again both physically and romantically. I was kind of thinking she may be bi like how Liliana was in DAO but she may be harder to woo female wise.
Voice actress unsure here...Someone as crazy as maybe that one duel wielder gal from HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE or similar like the crazy blonde girl in TRANSPORTER 2.
Mage-
Tranquil mage:
Was made tranquil and served a magi school for years. However his school was destroyed and he sole survived. periodically he gets his emotions back but very slowly but surely. Kicker is there was a reason why he was made tranquil though.
I am unsure who to cast here. The character would be deep and emotional and when the truth comes out he plays the "you have to feel sorry for me" angle with your character.
Warrior-
Chasind: (2 Hnd)
Served a noble house for years. Noble meets your character and boasts how you shouldn't mess with him because he's got this Chasind guy as his bodyguard. The chasind guy towers over your character (but not by much. However if your qunari he gives yo this 'I can take you on' type look). Some time later the noble is killed while Chasind was to make a simple task for his master. Chasind mistakes your character for the cause but when hirelings who killed the noble show up to kill you and the chasind your character suggests to work together as a means to escape the ambush. After the fight the chasind joins but initially to avenge masters death. If relationship builds he starts enjoying being around others and your character. Female romance only. Explains his own personal history about how he became a chasind and why he served the one noble. The noble does sound like a standup guy for adopting his family and making his family wealthy in turn to keep him. If high can reunite with family. You choose outcome on reunion: Uncool...You feel the family was wrong for selling him to slavery. The family could of found a better way to handle the situation in the past. Fair: Your happy that he became a better person and how his family became better. Your mixed feeling about stuff though. Good: Everything worked out for the best for everyone. You feel bad for the nobles death. the Chasind can stay if he wishes (chasind chooses to go with you) but you suggest he will return home when done.
Voice actor- I was kind of thinking Lucian's right hand man from the UNDERWORLD movies and who also directed I FRANKENSTIEN.

The only ones I have my heart set on, the point that I might end up actually disappointed by the lack of them, is the Fog Warrior or Gladiator companion. Actually, having either of those options would temper my disappointment about not having the other.
Honestly, as I was brainstorming my wish list, I took your question to mean "what if I had control over the entire list of companions?"
So I'd was kicking some characters out or fusing two or more characters together to keep to a manageable, single-digit number. So reading through the replies, I just immediately thought "whoa, that'll be your complete set of companions? That'll be cool and all, but... limitations, man!"
If they made Dragon Age out into a versus fighting game like Tekken or Mortal Kombat, I mean, sure.
Although, I've got my hopes for a gladiator as well. Bonus points if it's an Avaar Gladiatrix.
...Anyway, while I'm drafting out my list of companions, I'm also sketching them out... at least their headshots.
Do you have a preference when it comes to their relationship with the Qun?
My idea for this Qunari is that they're Tal-Vashoth. Gone off on their own, on the run, and I've yet to come up with a story as to why they decided to break away from the Qun. It's not because I want a Tal-Vashoth character, but since Iron Bull is a follower of the Qun to begin with, I just thought "okay, this is another Qunari- let's make him different from Iron Bull". Which meant they're not a warrior class nor of the Qun, for starters.
But really though, in regards to their relationship to the Qun, whether they're still following it or not, that'll really depend on how it's written. I don't exactly have a preference, so they can be written as if they're still for the Qun or they've defected. Again, it'll depend on how they're written.
DA could use a Dante
So, as a warrior class or as a rogue? He comes off as both, if you ask me.
