No effort is made to imply he'll live. His crew still rush to declare him dead before thinking better of declaring someone dead who apparently isn't. Breath sequence certainly isn't integrated into the sweeping epilogue that covers the rebuilding process, where in fact the implication is the opposite.

If they didn't intend for Shep to live, why even tease it? Especially when it requires high ems.

They said it themselves.  It's a "ray of hope"  Not a definitive answer.

Yup.  Absence of death=/= life.

Heck Pillars of Eternity and the Hollowborn Legacy was all about that.  ;)

I actually agree, I went from being a Talimancer to just being someone who likes Tali's character development and that's it.

I also agree.

Yes, it's not like you save Miranda's sister twice as well as her, or save Ashley in every game, or Liara for that matter. Literally every male romance is Shepard saving them.

Tali is what we in the civilized world call a waifu, who's sole purpose in the story is 'Ahhhh, Shepard-kun, save my people and I will make loves to you! Aguuuu!'

Those words, I wish I could burn them from peoples' minds so I never have to see or hear "waifu" "kun" or "agu" again.

Time to invent Reapers

Maybe he lives, maybe not. There is no certainty of his death, or a clarified continuing to live. The answer to "will Shepard live?" is neither yes nor no.

That horrid limbo is in line with pre EC scenario of zero closure and clarification, super Mac 'speculations'
In a post EC scenario of supposed closure and clarification it stands out like a sore thumb. An utterly vile disgrace imo.

you were supposed to make a 2000 word shitpost defending Miranda, whereupon some rabid Talimancer would jump in and do likewise, hopefully mentioning Liara or Ashley in a disparaging manner, resulting in an inevitable cascade effect of butthurt that gets the thread nuked from existence.

You lot are no fuckin fun. I'm going back to the MP section.

Except he/she doesn't emerge from the rubble in 3. He/she is bizarrely left there gasping.

And that's all that needs to be presented to show the fact that he's alive. You don't just put that as the absolute final scene, only to kill the character. That's not how any screenwriting works, and it's the same here.

You're a cool poster.. so don't take offense when I say that you don't need your hand held this much.

Unless you picked any other ending but High EMS Destroy.

Which is a definitive "no"

There's actually plenty of movies that end with such ambiguous endings.

Anyone who picks Control or Synthesis knows they're going to die..so it's not a big deal. While the Destroyers who die weren't making full use of the war and the game as they could have. Like I said earlier, I wish it wasn't originally tied to multiplayer, but there's a decent enough story reason for it.

And it didn't last long until they patched it anyways. I think they were just experimenting.

Except tying Shepard's death to one of those choices makes about as much sense as tying the Warden's death who who they back as ruler of Ferelden ("Anything but Alistair rules alone" means the Warden dies, for example)  It was arbitrary and stupid.  the writers wanted Shepard to die.

I can't go onto this board without finding it flooded with threads complaining about ME3's ending. Shepard may be dead. Shepard may not be. Get over it. Some stories leave characters' fates up in the air.

Who cares what they wanted. You act like the very thought taints everything. They still left the option remain open, for completionists.

Besides it's easy to get that EMS level anyways. I've got a permanent 1000 point boost, just from leveling multiplayer builds up. It's so easy to get that I wish I hadn't done it.

Corporal punishment of deceased equines is a time honoured tradition on internet forums, and "Shepard's final moments" or "Dat ending tho" are the most honoured on Bioware forums.

But my $0.02 on "resurrecting" Shep in some half a$$ed retconed/rehashed/regurgitated fashion?

NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooo.

1) They don't have the balls
2) They don't have the talent

Following through with the topic's premise wouldn't be indicative of either balls or talent.

Leaving aside the questionable wisdom of linking SP and MP, that still means a live Shepard (for a given value of "live) is only available in one specific ending. And that was shown, in the opinions of many , in a very unsatisfying manner even after EC.

Honestly they should have just killed Shepard off explicitly.

She should have died in agony as the Destroy wave incinerated her synthetic implants burning her from the inside out.

I'm not going to argue that it's satisfying. I'll agree with you. It could've been better.

I'm only saying that such an ending is possible, satisfying or not... it's an actual event that can happen in the games. Just because it's not satisfying enough or apparently not "what the writers wanted" doesn't take away from the actual event.

What's the point of low EMS then?

They put the breathe scene in because you pretty much do everything possible in the game. It'd be stupid to reward people with an even shittier ending than the others. lol. "Thanks for taking the time to explore everything we worked on all of these years. Here's the most gruesome ending possible."

I would actually love that gruesome ending. Some kind of Mortal Kombat fatality!

I would like it if I sucked and breezed through the game and only did main quests or something. That's kind of like seeing Phantom Jack, because you were too much of an idiot to protect human kids...while you were out curing the genophage. [edit: Not "you", but you in general ;)]

I wouldn't like it if I maximized every possible asset and questline.
