The casters in my party won't cast...

Very sensibly, I have a cleric and sorceror in my party. Thing is, neither of them will cast spells, ever. This is a bit disappointing, as you can imagine.

They will melee attack, but that's not what they're there for. And if I turn melee attacks off, they just stand there in the middle of battles, doing nothing at all. I've tried changing behaviour settings, and also resetting behaviours to default, but none of it worked.

Does anyone know whether this can be fixed, and if so how? I planned this party very carefully, and it's basically 50% useless right now.

Thanks

Can you cast spells with them when you control them directly?

Yep, if I assume direct control of either of them, they play normally. But as soon as I switch to another character, they stop dead. Thing is, I don't really want to play in puppet mode. Was kinda hoping for AI explosions and healing while I snuck around as my rogue/ranger.

Does anything happen if you order them to attack with the voice command menu, while you're controlling your rogue/ranger?  V->W->E

I sometimes find that casters will mysteriously stop wanting to cast via the AI, despite no changes in their behavioural settings. That's why I give most casters ranged weapons, to stop the squishier casters from running head-long into battle like maniacs.

You can try fiddling with their settings on the behavioural tab of their character window. Changing from the usual setting (scaled casting) to something else, then undoing it immediately, might jolt the casting AI into action again.

oh, to dip a bit deeper:

in your Docs/NwN2/database folder the "compaisettings" are stored. Try *renaming* (or deleting, they should return ok...) the three files with

.cdx/.dbf/.fpt extensions

Then redo your companions' behavior settings. I'm just guessing, but there they are

I had that problem - with level 18 characters. I don't know solution, but I might know why. You sorcerer and your cleric are too powerful and AI don't think it's worth using spells.

EDIT: I don't knowm what level you are, maybe you started with level 4 characters, but your characters are probably too powerful right now.

Okay, allow me to take this discussion one step further.  Not only does my completely melee useless wizard run headlong into battle just as the OP describes, I can't do anything with my character's behavior options.  I get into the tab and there is nothing selected and won't allow me to select anything.  As a point of reference, this feature works while playing MotB and the OC, so I thought this might be something unique to SoZ I had just forgotten about, but apparently it works for you all.

Aha! That might be it. They're both level 21 demigods (I thought it would be a high level continuation of the other games, so built them powerful).

This is actually really funny - my casters are so powerful that fighting is below them. They're like "Meh - this isn't even worth me lifting a finger"

And the thing is, the AI's correct. There is no threat worth their attention. My terrifyingly aggressive Earth Genasi monk rushes off and kills everything in the blink of an eye. I barely have time to target something with my archer before everything's dead already. Meanwhile the two casters are lounging around at the back, polishing their nails and chatting about shoes.

I might actually carry on with this party, just for a laugh. I can role-play it as a party of bored gods mooching around the world for a while. They're all Genasi, so it kinda fits.

Thanks for all the replies!
