...ask what the hell my Qunari Inquisitor is? He was around centuries before the first Qunari ever arrived in Thedas, the seven foot ox walking around in front of him is completely alien to him. ![]()
Why didn't Ameridan... *Jaws of Haakon spoilers*

Maybe him not being able to hold Hakkon off for much longer is a reason he's not asking for trivia on qunari.
I'm sure if those hakkonites hadn't disrupted his binding he'd have even asked what you chew on grass for breakfast or if your race charges at each others like druffalos when settling a dispute.
Priorities.

I think the "Drakon's empire stretched far while I slept, I see..." line is supposed to be reference to that. The guy is pretty chill about encountering an entirely new race actually xD
I read somewhere that the author of Last Flight handwaved the reason that Garahel knew of the Qunari over a hundred years before first contact, because the griffins had allowed the Wardens to scout far enough that they'd encountered them long before the rest of Thedas. Also that the Warden's familiarity with broodmothers and their respective darkspawn variants meant that logically, another race had to exist to produce Ogres?
I figure that Ameridan not being that phased about encountering a new race is probably down to the same thing?
We're told that he'd been in the Deep Roads before and that the Second Blight was already underway at the time, so it's possibly he knew where the Darkspawn are derived from and that the Ogre's progenitor race was "missing". Or he could have found out because the Inquisition found out some of the Warden's secrets, including that one?
On a slightly related subject, the mosiac tiles "Freed are Slaves" apparently depicts Qunari and they are one of the few things that have never been altered according to Gatsi's notes about the piece, which makes me wonder if perhaps these were slaves captured shortly after the Qunari landed... or perhaps the Tevinters were aware of them earlier than everyone else and this tile set is far older?
My personal pet theory is that that the Qunari's existence had been rumoured by people in Thedas long before they ever showed up? And that rather than being surprised when they finally did show up, the people were more shocked that this race was far more advanced technologically than they where, as well as armed to the teeth?
After all, Ameridan's comment seems to suggest he thinks that Orlais conquered the Qunari's homeland and absorbed them into the Empire, rather than what really happened, that the Qunari showed up and steamrolled over most of Thedas until they were finally driven back (barely).

Well, Corypheus ostensibly knows what the Qunari are, and he must have picked it up somewhere...

Likely because he strolled out of his prison and into a world filled with the big horned freaks!

And these Qunari somehow knew their race was made by the use of dragon blood?

Qunari are vat-grown mutants bred for the usage of their blood in magical rites.
Lab experiments that escaped into the world and reproduced. Now it's our job to correct this mistake.

The kossith were in southern thedas -Korcari Wilds- before the race "got exterminated" by magisters and darkspawn and then moved north... So he probably knew about them ....
