I support your sentiment, I'd like more hair too, it was more the anger I had an issue with than the request itself.

I forget which member of the production team it was that pointed out that it was easier drawing some hair on a 2D image

('look how easy it is to make long hair') than actually designing and animating it.

I suspect Frostbite 3 was at the heart of it, but that debate is for elsewhere...  ^_^

I remember who said that.  That was David Gaider, and he came out on the forums to talk about it.  He also talked about Tangled in that post.

Reading through this and a few thoughts jump out.

First of course is how odd it is to me at least that people would be so offended that Bioware is a company and wants to make a profit.  For those of you that have displayed such umbrage at this concept, I suggest that you go to your own employer and inform them that you no longer want to be paid for your efforts either.  You will now work for free out of the goodness of your heart and expect no compensation even though you will work just as hard as you did before when they were paying you.  Otherwise of course you can always admit your gross hypocrisy and give it a rest.  The folks at BIoware deserve to get paid for their efforts just as you deserve to get paid for yours.

Companies either put out products that sell well or they don't survive, it's that simple.  So if Bioware runs the numbers and they show that they make more money from selling a certain type of game or one for a certain type of system then I don't fault them for concentrating their efforts there.  Bioware or any other company has no obligation to create a game marketed specifically to me, or to you for that matter.  So for those of you again that seem to be so highly offended by this concept, I would suggest that you think about that carefully and try to get over yourself.  That isn't a logical argument, it's ego gone wild.

As to the original point of this thread, can anyone really blame Bioware reps or devs for not participating in this forum more often?  Considering the over the top hyperbole that is posted on a regular basis, the fairly unreasonable expectation level that many of these threads contain, and the rather prevalent "I'm not going to be happy no matter what" attitude that underscores many of these postings frankly I would imagine that Bioware probably wouldn't want any of it's dev's to post here.

The bad PR that might be generated by someone just trying to defend their work against a hyperaggresive, unreasonable poster probably isn't worth it for them.  So really the only way to avoid that is to not post.  So I don't blame them for not wanting to post here because frankly I just see way to many people here who refuse to play nice.

Like I said, just a couple of things that jumped out to me.  You may return to your regularly scheduled mud slinging.  :)

Except they didn't claim thise things were in the game when they were selling it.

2 days before it hit the shelves. So pretty close. Actually, they did claim it while the preorders were being sold.

And why should Bioware be required interact with people on the forums? What makes gamers think they are ohh so special that developers should drop whatever they are doing and respond to customers? In what other media do the consumers of said media have such a self entitled attitude that they think an author, or director or actor should respond to their every whim?

Bioware is ONLY responsible to make the game, and support the game post launch. Bioware has given support to inquisition in the last five months we have gotten 6 patches. That is great support. When you buy a game that doesn't give you a reasonable expectation to be in contact with the creators. When I buy a car I don't expect that the engineer is going to sit around reading forum posts and responding. When I buy music i don't expect that the artist explain their choices for song lists or that they respond to my posts. Why do you expect that bioware should do so?

You are NOT so important that your expectations should be met. You have a condition called Typical gamer unreasonable expectation syndrome, you should seek treatment or life will be filled with further disappointment.

Your comment is really out of proportion really. I didn't start this thread demanding Bioware to respond to us. I think you are the one that should seek treatment for over-reacting <_<

I saw your OP as sounding wistful and a little sad, but not demanding.  I think if anyone calls your OP a demand, then they have either not read the forums enough, or read them too much and are reading things into your post that aren't there.    <hugs>

Big Snip

                                                                                      <<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>

Bioware WAS a company. It was bought out by Electronics Arts around 2010, just after or just before  DA:O launched. EA is a multi-billion dollar public corporations that has many gaming studios...Bioware is one of those.

Six patches plus a seventh one on the way from Nov 18, 2014 to Apr 18, 2015 = 5 months.

One may call that support. Others may call it a bug infested COD prone game at launch that needed patches to make it semi-workable. Even the devs,. early after launch, admitted features were disabled because they were unable to fix the bugs (yes, I recognize that the PS4 and XB1 suffered very little compared to other platforms).

"You are NOT so important that your expectations should be met.."

True, unless the expectation was marketed or marketed in such a way that it implied....it was in the game... I point you to Bio's Crative Director Mike Laidlaw' s famous line in a PC promo video...... " a PC game made for PC gamers by PC gamers". Of course he was speaking about DAI of which the other famous line of his ".. we went back to our roots.."

No such thing occurred on the PC regarding their roots or made for the PC because it turned out from their very own mouth from other interviews, that the game design from the outset was made for the console.

So, there were expectations.... NOT MET.

Cheers

If you want to know what happens to an established franchise once EA takes over... well, Ultima 8: Pagan is free on Origin today. Have a look. ;)

Haha yeah, Spoony's reviews are awesome. I played Pagan back in the day and liked it alright but that was mostly because I had nothing else to play and couldn't compare it. I thought I was really bad for dying 10 times in a row for missing a simple jump. I still have a folder with all the U8 spells, with self drawn pentagrams and everything. :D

Also, I took the name Daemion from that game. ^^

Follow the money.

In the past several years, there's been a fairly well-documented general shift away from tradition internet discussion forums.  Instead, the bulk of people wanting to talk about things online are flocking to Reddit, Facebook, and Twitter.  It makes sense for the Devs to spend most of their time in the venues that will reach the widest audience.

Welcome to the New Age.  It's radioactive.

I honestly feel that the lack of interaction from Bioware representatives(except for official announcement, which is so rare) is very discouraging to say the least. It's giving me this thought that Bioware is intentionally avoiding us like a plague :(

Do others feel the way I'm feeling or am I an alien in this community?

No you have many kin. However I think the restraint Bioware shows is a sign of wisdom.

I am starting to really like Reddit for all my Dragon Age news. No particular reason other than everyone seems to congregate there with the most up-to-date news on patches, mods, etc., as well as interesting discussions on lore and stuff.  It also seems to be more positive and thus pleasurable to read. It would be really great to hear more from the devs here though.

It would be if it was our peer and not the company... this is just poor customer interaction.

They created a feedback forum, and they don't use it.

(to Saphiron123) I would not say that them not replying to threads imply that they do not use the feedback found in the forums. There is the likelihood that they have someone gather the constructive feedback from the forums and present it to the developers, perhaps in written form.

Yes, I can deny that, with a straight face.

Lie is a strong word. Too strong word, since they did make an effort to do PC-interface gameplay, Tac Cam etc.

They just didn't finish up doing it well enough, and the end result differed in - for many crucial - details from how previous games had done it.

Why they didn't do that well enough is easy to speculate about. They had lack of support for features in the new engine. They were running out of time. Maybe they took the directive, that it would have to be the same game on all platforms, too far. So they shipped something that would have to do, because they had to.

(Meanwhile, I think the game is playable and I enjoy it very much, and I play it on a PC. But yes, the PC-UI is a scandal, I agree)

Console controller was likely the focus throughout, because before and during, EA believed that was the essential market. Only late in the game, did EA-marketing realize that the PC-segment was, and would be, much more important, than what they had bet on. What did they do about it? In typical EA fashion, the lower echelons figured it meant they were required to do a marketing video, the infamous "For PC-gamers by PC-gamers". Now that is the marketing department for you. If you study the video carefully, you'll discover it's all in the title, not in the content. Take away the title - now what is really the video about? The only one of the developers who are in any kind of trouble at all is Elizabeth, and she is excited at appearing in a video and hasn't got a clue what she's talking about.

No, nobody lied. ...exactly, just marketing.

I'm not sure I'd call it outright lying either but when they make a video extolling the virtues of the game as being made for PC gamers BY PC gamers it leads one to expect a fully featured PC interface and it certainly doesn't imply that the controller was the focus during development just the opposite in fact.

Wrong. This forum is a containment unit. In here BioWare has complete control over everything, so they want malcontents to post here instead of making a stink on Twitter.

They should have a team of community managers... but as far as I know, there isn't even one.

It's all just in the title. Not in the video. M.L for instance is clearly talking about the game itself, not any PC-version. Watch the video again. It's all phrases out of context, edited together and then given a title that is suggestive and misleading.

I wasn't a huge fan of the keyboard interface myself - but it was easily fixed by buying a $20 game controller and plugging it into the USB port.

I've run into a couple of people that consider the keyboard interface to be "standard" in that the keys used are those used by a lot of other games.  Admittedly I'm not a huge gamer and the games I generally played before were mostly in the flight sim category and I generally used a joystick for those so I didn't really like the keyboard interface that much myself.

But it was an easy, cheap fix and it works great with the game controller.
