Mass Effect without Jack Wall was like winter without any snow, but Mass Effect without Sam Hulick would be like Mass Effect without its soul. That's pre-emptive of me, but I don't think anyone can replace what Hulick added to this IP, even if there are a lot of competent electronic music makers in the business nowadays. I thought those Sascha Dikisjsjsjsjs-something and what's-his-name added a Deus Ex vibe to it and that was okay, but it still felt like Deus Ex to me and not Mass Effect, and Chris Lennertz' music was just boring.

Sam and Jack are the heroes of Mass Effect's music departement. Hulick is at the core but Jack added some real magic on the top of it, but remove both and I don't see myself going into NME and thinking "this feels like good ol Mass Effect". I'm probably not going to say that anyways. I hope Sam H is on the project.

Dragon Age soundtrack without Inon Zur turned out very well. Don't write the soundtrack off yet. Many of the tracks that are not by Sam and Jack in ME3 are excellent: Reaper Chase, Leaving Earth, The Scientists, Rannoch, I'm Sorry. Also, Arrival soundtrack was some of the best in the series and it wasn't composed by Sam and Jack. Also forgot to mention Kasumi's soundtrack in ME2.

1) DAO's and DA2's Inon Zur soundtracks weren't all that great to start with. So DAI had nowhere else to go but up. Unlike Mass Effect 1 which had a killer soundtrack.

2) Most if not all of the examples you gave are not synth based tracks, but orchestra based tracks. To me, I felt that the synth sounds felt more Mass Effect, more "futuristic" and fit the atmosphere better. Those synth tracks whether ambient or combat always added to the atmosphere while the orchestra tracks was just overwhelming and felt like something that belongs in Gears of War, Call of Duty, or God of War......not Mass Effect.

Something along these lines (the composers were inspired by ME).

I have a lot of problems with Arrival, but the soundtrack is certainly not one of them. I thought those tracks had a very good sense of fun as well as the urgency of escaping the asteroid.

But of all the tracks, I think LotSB had the best.

1. DAO and DA2 had their distinctive sound, and few great tracks. I though many fans will have their "they changed it now it sucks" moment here.

2. Well it is a matter of taste here. I found most of the synth ME1 tracks extremely boring. Maybe it's just me loving to overload my brain with sounds as this is the main reason I like sample and melody heavy trance music.

As long as they bring back Vigil's theme in the credits or the prologue to really bring back the feels.

John Dombrow did really good things with ME3, and he's back. Mac Walters is still there (ugh).
