Part 1: I don't claim to understand the fade, just how FC fails to prevent being knocked down.
Part 2: Blame lag + Network / Offhost / Positioning issues. Haha. Best get used to standing inside enemies.
Just putting my perspective on the issue out there. Part of the problem is that the description for how the ability functions, and how it actually works aren't totally congruent. If the description read as "You are briefly immune to damage from outside sources (all aside from self-inflicted or fall damage) and can move through enemies, but are still susceptible to crowd control abilities.", then getting knocked down wouldn't be a problem, as it would be clear that it's intentional for that to be able to happen while Fade Cloak is active. But with how things currently stand, Fade Cloak seems like it's supposed to provide absolute invulnerability to everything for its duration (minus fall damage of course), but it doesn't quite work that way.
