The only reason I ever started GT in the first place was because I wanted to see SSJ4 in action.

Okay, SPOILER CITY TIME! SPOILERS FOR BATTLE OF GODS AND RESURRECTION F FOR THOSE WHO DIDN'T WATCH THEM(as in movie spoilers for both)-

Battle of Gods-

 

God of Destruction Beerus comes out of his slumber, chatting with his aide Whis, wondering about having a battle with a supposed "Super Saiyan God" and finds out that Frieza was defeated by a saiyan. Wondering if he(Goku) would know about Super Saiyan Gods, he makes haste for King Kai's place where Goku was currently at.

 

After a bit of discussion, Goku and Beerus have a battle on King Kai's planet, with Goku ascending all the way to Super Saiyan 3-only to get completely manhandled and made to look like a joke. Not landing any kind of real hit on Beerus, he gets chopped back down to base form and this leads Beerus to head to Earth where the rest of the saiyans are.

 

Vegeta is warned by King Kai of the fact Beerus is here, and thus Vegeta(currently holding Bulma's birthday party) begins to worry that all could go haywire if Beerus is disappointed. When Beerus arrives, Vegeta swallows his pride and does everything he can to please Beerus, even though he and the rest of the saiyans don't have a clue about any sort of Super Saiyan God form.

 

Eventually, Majin Buu ends up ticking off Beerus by eating all of the pudding and offering none to the God of Destruction, leading Beerus to decide Earth would pay the consequences. One by one, the Z fighters are taken out without any effort from the God of Destruction. Vegeta seeing the futility of fighting back throws in the towel and prepares to die at the hands of Beerus but Bulma decides to stand up to him, slapping Beerus across the face for ruining her birthday party, only to be backhanded in retaliation. This leads to Vegeta ascending to Super Saiyan 2 and being so enraged he not only landed a few hits on the God of Destruction but actually surpassed Goku's power levels at Super Saiyan 3. Even with the immense increase in power through his motivation to defend his wife, it did all but nothing to Beerus, leaving everyone to wonder what could possibly be done to stop Beerus.

 

Enter Goku, who with the help of Shenlong discovers that a Super Saiyan God is a form that a saiyan can attain only with help from the power of six pure-hearted saiyans. He attains this form thru himself, Vegeta, Gohan, Trunks, Goten, and a baby Pan still in the womb of her mother Videl. After attaining the Super Saiyan God form(leading to a transformation of his body with a leaner frame and a reddish tint to his hair), Goku enters a battle with the God of Destruction Beerus.

 

Their battle takes place on Earth for a time, until Goku realizes the Super Saiyan God form's time limit is quite short, and he had already lost the form during the battle with Beerus, yet managed to retain most of its power. Continuing the battle in space, Beerus launches a planet destroying energy ball at Earth but Goku finds a way to absorb it into himself, saving Earth but being too exhausted to continue fighting. Admitting defeat, Goku and Beerus respectfully return to Earth with the battle concluded.

 

Beerus spares Earth, and several revelations are made. One, Beerus only used about 70% of his power against Goku, still managing to defeat him in his God form. Second, Goku was only the second strongest opponent Beerus ever faced;number one being Whis, who is actually his martial arts master and far stronger than even him. Third, Beerus is the God of Destruction of the 7th universe;there are twelve, all with different Gods, creatures, and fighters. Goku and Vegeta are acknowledged as having the potential to be trained immensely, reaching power levels not even fathomed by those in their universe, and they decide to do so, with Vegeta telling Goku that he is next in line to attain the Super Saiyan God form, with Goku agreeing.

 

Resurrection F-

 

Long after the defeat of Frieza at the hands of Goku on Namek and Frieza's short-lived return to Earth only to be killed at the hands of a time-traveling Trunks, Frieza's army has dwindled and become weak without their leader. Being headed by one of Frieza's past subordinates Sorbet, the decision is made to bring the alien back to life. Sorbet heads towards Earth, and a request is made of Shenlong to resurrect Frieza. The dragon cannot do this entirely as Frieza is literally in pieces, but the deed is helped along regardless. After Frieza's army finishes putting Frieza back together and the warlord is brought back to life, he decides that he must train to defeat the vastly more powerful Goku, who has even beaten the almighty Majin Buu by this point in time.

 

Frieza was a prodigy;born with power within, Frieza never spent a day of his life training. After six months of intense training to defeat those that eliminated him, he returns to Earth to seek his revenge upon the saiyans who wronged him. Bulma, becoming aware of Frieza's arrival, sends word to Whis to bring Goku and Vegeta with him back to Earth to face Frieza.

 

At this time, Goku and Vegeta have been training with Whis' guidance(to the annoyance of Beerus who cannot sleep with all the racket being made). Whis singlehandedly defends himself against the attacks of both saiyans, having no issues whatsoever. This leads him to explain to the saiyans that they are overthinking during battle and must let their bodies simply act;Vegeta being so tense in battle that he is slow to react, and Goku being so relaxed that he leaves himself open to attack. After Beerus literally sneezes a planet into destruction, it is discovered that Whis has the ability to rewind time and do things over, revealing to the saiyans that they know very little about the capabilities of others.

 

Frieza makes it to Earth, destroying North City in a single blast. The Z fighters show, with Bulma arguing with Frieza only to realize that he has become far more powerful. Asking for some time to allow Goku to return, Frieza sends his army to engage in combat with the Z fighters. Frieza's army is spared by the Z fighters only for Frieza to eliminate them himself, deciding he should face the Z fighters on his own. Frieza takes down Gohan, who ends up without a pulse. Panicking, he is saved via chest compression by Piccolo, then given a senzu bean to recover.

 

Whis, Beerus, Goku, and Vegeta are informed about Frieza's arrival on Earth, leading to the group heading there to face him. After arriving, Goku enters battle with Frieza with the monster being completely unable to land a hit against his rival. Vegeta eventually ends up arguing that he should have a chance at facing Frieza, confusing Frieza and leading him to believe that Vegeta is still somehow loyal to him. Asking Vegeta to let him finish his fight with Goku, Frieza and Goku ascend to their highest forms;Goku reaches a previously unseen "Super Saiyan God-Super Saiyan" form with blue hair and energy, a renewed version of the normal super saiyan form only with the absorbed power of the Super Saiyan God transformation, weaker than the original Super Saiyan God form but able to be held for far longer. Frieza attains a "Golden Frieza" form, with a far higher power level than any reached on Namek.

 

The fight continues, and eventually the saiyans have discovered a flaw in Frieza's new form;he beelined it straight to Earth once attaining it, not taking the time to get used to it, so its rapidly consuming his power much like Goku's Super Saiyan 3 form had done in the past.

 

In Goku's relaxed state, he inadvertently allowed Sorbet to shoot him with a beam attack from behind, leading him to near death. Frieza requests that Vegeta end his rival saiyan but Goku is saved by Vegeta who kills Sorbet by deflecting Frieza's attacks and allows Goku to receive a senzu bean. In return, Vegeta is given the right to continue the fight, so he ascends to the Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan form that he achieved as well, now taking on the blue haired appearance that Goku did earlier(thus confirming that between films, Vegeta was allowed to become a Super Saiyan God).

 

Vegeta absolutely dominates Frieza, not offering the monster even the slightest chance at an equal fight. Beating the golden form right out of Frieza all seems well but before Vegeta could finish him off for good the monster in frustration sends an energy ball straight into Earth's crust, destroying the planet and killing everyone on it himself included. The only people to survive were those in Whis' immediate vicinity;Whis turns back time three minutes, and before Frieza can destroy the Earth, Goku blasts him to smithereens with a kamehameha wave.

 

Vegeta argues with Goku over not allowing him to have his final moment of ending Frieza, but Bulma informs him that Goku actually saved him(much like how Vegeta saved him earlier). They are told this all could've been avoided if they had simply decided to work together from the beginning, though both saiyans agree they wouldn't want to do so, leading to the two sharing the humor of them finally agreeing on something. Bulma decides to hold a big feast for Whis, Beerus, and the Z fighters, but only after North City is restored with the Dragon Balls. And thus, Frieza is returned to the depths of Hell.

 

^For those who haven't seen the films but want to know what happens in detail.

 

Given the events and new forms, I think we won't be seeing much of the original super saiyan forms(especially Super Saiyan 2 or 3), but we'll see.

I don't think we can make a direct comparison to the films. Sure elements of them will be in the show, but I mean tone wise and such. Not sure what to expect.

Especially since, according to the Perfect Files, Pan has the potential/can turn Super Sayian, and could have been one that never been seen before.

 

I've seen fanart like that one, that nails it.
