I think the dangers posed by that sort of armor design are somewhat exaggerated. It would protect just as well against swords or pikes as a standard breastplate. Weapons that inflict damage via blunt force would be an issue, but then taking a hit to the chest with a war hammer is going to put you in a world of hurt no matter what you are wearing. Also the 'boob plate' would provide more protection than chain, leather, or padded armor.
yes your are 100% right and we could even says that fem-shep,Liara or ash armor have boobs and we are all kind of fine with that.
In SF the gear is about the same type for dude and and girls.

and regardless of the class i think that is really the trick. after all DW are usually scantly clothed, though before IB tank=heavy armor so there was a bit more of form and function argument
The problem in Fantasy is that

is not quite the same as that

and that boob armor always starts with that

and end up like that

It has nothing about prudishness, I don't mind the WH witch elf outfit at all, provided that the same exist for the male version. yes the way of fighting and the armour deos not work in RL, and i am all for fantasy fighting style and armour.
ps
Bunt force does not work on plate, When plate appeared maces disappear. Hammer (in the 15th century object) is an armor piercing weapon.
that being said on the with my cuirass and my placard i have about 2.7-3 mm of steel on the front..... that can about take a couched lance.
when i jousted, only with experience i could tell if i was hit or not... (and i have been hit in the head and the gorget a few times....)
