Since the ladies cite the need for particular protection across the chest as the argument for the eradication of pretty armor, I think the guys deserve some more protection for their delicate parts too. I'm sure many women and men would appreciate this design for its elegance.

Gosh, yes, if ONLY there were some form of protective strap that men could put on for the delicate bits that they can wear under their trousers... something to secure their genitals and protect them from damage during sports of other intensive training... it's too bad no one has come up with something practical like that in real life.

Oh wait... :P

But I guess a kevlar diaper would work too. For some things. Not even going to go and google that one.

Actually, in the spirit of this thread I now feel the overwhelming need to discuss how protective that kind of armor (it IS armor, isn't it? o.O) actually is. Wouldn't the little dent in the middle be a major problem, because a- it could catch blows instead of diverting them, and b- it could concentrate the pressure of the blow on more vulnerable areas?

They took them out for the same reason they removed desire demons, because they believed it would be offensive.  In fact their is too much politcal correctness and pandering to minorites in this game as a whole.

I believe in equality and fairness but if people are so easily offended I think the problem might be with them.  That is my two cents, and that goes for the whole world to be honest.  Too much cesnorship because of too many people being too easily offended.  As I said I believe in equality so I would be offended if someone said something deragotory about women or black people.  But this is too much, it is getting out of hand.

I think literal breastplates are a little bit stupid, even though they did exist and have been found in celtic burial sites, and some other places too that had women warriors, but I agree that the whole damn game is pandering to minorities, the series has been neutered, and ironically by making it so diverse and colorful they actually made it drab and grey.

I just don't get why there can't the option for people who want more aesthetically pleasing armor instead of practical armor.

Because Bioware are lazy,

Its not designed to be aesthetically pleasing... they make one armor that (almost) fits all races at once... looks are meaningless, they just add some generic armors to the game and move on.. same with hair and characters and quests, weapons.... fetch quests...

Look at the latest patches......oops some armors don't fit Qunari well.....easy fixed we'll stop them using them completely, awesome all fixed....

Just for reference

More reference (this is mostly opinion but i agree)

https://g33kp0rn.wor...-wont-kill-you/

I could write a page on why i agree but i'll leave it up to the readers..

Personally, I prefer not having boob plates.

That being said, I do like having more options for differing tastes. Like Dragon's Dogma for example, you could go from "Walking Tank" to "Arrested for Indecent Exposure" and everything in between. It was pretty neat how the clothing and armor layers could be changed independently.

I was just yesterday playing Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning and noticed that my character's armor has boob plates and it reminded me of this thread. I don't mind boob plates much personally, but they aren't that aesthetically pleasing for me. For example the armor my Paragon has on Reckoning would in my opinion look better without boob plates.

So this is the armor I got:

3-14-2012-2-05-40-AM.png

It quite much focuses the look on the boobs, because armor is colored differently in boob part and the boobs seem to like rise from the armor. I think something like this on the chest area:

a5GnB.jpg

or maybe even if you still want to show boobs:

8d29cbdec777117c7ab37a3d05c87283.jpg

would be more aesthetically pleasing. The thing with boob plates that I dislike is that they don't often look that good and for with rest of armor, they are usually seperating boobs from armor and focusing on them like woah boobies!

Or maybe that's just me :P

Yep let's just say that I wasn't very fond on clothing I had to wear on korean and chinese MMORPG's when I was younger. Not really intrested in playing any of those again either.

Yeah, I find that kind of thing ludicrous, not aesthetically pleasing. Hell, my SWTOR character spent several levels not wearing the best armour I had in her inventory because it would have showed her midriff and I found that too silly. I wouldn't play a game that made my PC dress like that.

To each their own, I guess.

It annoyed me at first too, but ever since I can dress my male character like this:

swtor%202014-10-20%2017-38-01-90_zpsdeex

I'm okay with this.

And I've always liked Thana's armor from Swtor:

It shows no skin, but IMO looks sexy.  ;)

Lol as opposed to Dragon Age where characters get completely naked. That mage outfit is more covering than what you see over the course of DA:I. I think the DA:I characters need pants personally.

Oh come on, don't be shy, it's hot. Well for there are less provocative things that I still just like more for at least feeling less bland like in Japanese games. And yeah I personally find it ludicrous that DA:I feels the need to engage in graphic sexual activity with all the T&A everywhere personally.

My Sith Warrior totally loved Thana. (Still want Thana as a companion!)

But yeah. That's a good example of pretty, form-complimenting armor (but then who's really surprised, if the war was fought on the battlefield of fashion, the Empire would have won before the war even started).

You're cheating by bringing the Fire Emblem franchise into this, Panda. :P

They do do good boobplate armors too. The Fire Emblem franchise just did good armors of various styles very well period really.

tumblr_mzda9hJGp61r5jvj1o1_500.jpg

I agree though, the latter two are better than the first one. Bioware's own Mass Effect was another series where they did it well, or at least for Shepard's armor, where it is just part of the armor rather than the focus of the armor.

Those boob plates and boob mails make my breasts hurt. I cannot but pity the poor gals wearing them.

As long as it's not some kind of metal it's fine though.

If I am honest, I really like sexy armour in my fantasy games. I don't care that it is impractical. It is a "fantasy" after all. What can I say, I like to look sexy! I don't care that it is impractical. If I cared about clothing being impractical, I would never ever wear heels in real life.

So I do find DA:I's armour choices really really disappointing. In fact, I think unsexy armour is now pretty much the norm for western RPGs, which I think is just sad.  :(

What's "sexy" or not depends on a person. I find elegant, sensuous, well-sewn clothing/armors sexy and can only laugh at ridiculous "armors" or "clothing" that consists mostly of thong and two pieces of material that cover nipples, for example.

It just doesn't fit into the Dragon Age aesthetic. I don't mind sexy armor at all, but it would stick out like a sore thumb in this series.
