To add to this, the concern I have with boob plate is that it will once again be the only option for female characters. I think it looks stupid, but if it's an option I don't care if it's there. I was thrilled to finally have regular looking armor for my female characters and don't want to go back to the days of boob cups and chain bikinis being the whole of what she can wear.

Forgive the post snipping, but I wanted to try to address this part.   :)

I'm not worried here because I honestly don't think BioWare would go that route.  I understand the fear, but the company seems to be getting better about having the more practical options.  I think that having a more revealing option wouldn't inspire BW to suddenly take out all of the more practical armor that I also enjoy.  Admittedly, there are some companies were I could see that as a concern.  Semantics aside (no more Western vs Japanese arguments, it isn't the point,) BioWare is one of the more progressive and open games companies, and one of the best out there when it comes to trying to listen to their female fans.

From what I've been reading, not many aside from the long gone OP feel it should be the only armor style available.  I've been applying a bit of a critical eye on the thread, but I haven't seen a lot of folks insisting that this is the only style that should be out there.  Again,  I can't see BioWare implementing a change to where all of the armor is revealing.

*looks at ME3*

They'll be the first to admit that ME was a growing period for the company.  I can tell you that both Manveer Heir (one of the guys on the ME team) and David Gaider both talked about that adding more catsuits and changing up Ashley's look for something more "sexy" wasn't something that they were interested in doing again.  They even called the Butt-Cam a mistake (at two different GDC panels.)  ME3 was also 3 years ago and counting now, so I can't let that cloud my judgement too much.

Plus, the art direction between the two games has always been pretty different from each other.  So no, I still don't think that there is a reason to be concerned.  I don't think BioWare would throw themselves into "all revealing armor all the time" with Dragon Age.  I spent a lot of time mulling it over and I'm in the "I don't see why not" camp.  I wouldn't use it.  My personal feelings with how out of place they would look on my character haven't changed.  So again, leave it optional, don't stick it on random NPCs in areas with very extreme hot/cold weather, and I'm happy.  I don't have to wear it, but more power to those that would.   :)

I mean I get where you're coming from, but the transition from ME1 to the other two games just doesn't inspire me with confidence.

While they share a lot of the same writers, this was two different teams with two very different goals in mind.  I haven't seen that behavior from DA yet in the last 6 years, so I'm being less skeptical than I normally would.  I am skeptical of the company, but this is an area that I feel safe about it.

That being said, Miranda...er...not my type.  -_-

Eh, different strokes for different folks.  I like the character, but other than her amazing eye color and pretty hair color, she does zero for me.

I don't think it so much invalidates it as much as it leads me not to take anyone seriously for using it as a foundation to build their argument against impractical armor. He has better armor available to him, yet chooses impractical armor that could actively cause harm or death--for whatever his reasoning--he is still choosing poorly.

Minimal armor means minimal protection and maximum mobility. It does not impede mobility nor does it install a plate that would focus force on a vulnerable area.

Boob cup armor impedes mobility and installs a focal point for force instead of allowing it to be dispersed over a broad area. Thus, it actively creates another source of danger for the wearer.

No, there are some of us have the best taste.  Others are merely content with just good.  You can keep your good taste.    :P

point taken, but the majority of the armors for companions were decidedly not revealing

Now that I have that image in mind

where do people draw the line?  I usually only take issue with catsuits and boob plates when they start really breaking immersion.  Like Samara going on a space walk with enough cleavage to stop a Reaper or when its just really ridiculous like say, steel plate armor in Skyrim (which is actually one of my favorite looking armors in Skyrim on men)

See, that isn't bad imho.   I guess an example of what I think is personally too far (and yes, it's a mod) without going straight to TERA would be this:

The third I think is slightly better, but I'll admit I hate mid-drift armor even more than boob armor.

Spoiler

This is just my opinion about taste and I would never think about giving someone a hard time for using a mod to create this look.  However, it is something I would consider just too much for DA.

Personally, I'd prefer if they keep it closer to something like this:

Generally speaking I think people only really take issue with boob plates when they show a lot of skin for no reason. Armor shaped in a woman's figure isn't really a big deal.

Like, you mentioned Ashley, but Ashley's thing in ME3 was the makeup. Her armor is badass as hell:

It reminded me of what the female Barbarians in Diablo 3 would probably look like as well.  I don't argue about some of those mods (good gods,) but it's not like that's a lone example of that kind of look for a female frontline fighter.

@Chrono Yep, that's how I felt too.  The armor was in line with a lot of the look for the rest of the series, but it did not fit Ashley's character to have all that makeup and her hair pulled down.  I'm glad there is ME3 mods that can give her back that less makeup/bun look.

I am seeing a lot of this reasoning. I asked few times already and still no one answered.

I take it, to back up this claim, there are some kind of proofs like testings done on this kind of armour, technical drawings of such armour with detailed explanation of weak spots, or maybe some complex calcs made of given force hitting thick metal shaped like boob-plate.

Of course simple demonstration of manekin wearing boob armor vs sword hit would be the best.

So if there are any of those please, anyone of you using this argument, can you give me the link? But if you're going to answer with a link to some armchair armour smith's blog or even worse, some blog with pure theories then please don't even bother.

*snip*

it wasn't just the make up, it was also the informal skirt, the boob job, in addition to the make up, and I'd say that my favorite female space armor comes in the form of Mjolnir variants from Halo

To be fair, even Dr. Chakwas got a boob job and a tummy tuck.  It wasn't like Ashley will singled out to be made more "sexy."
