Yea, the paint was a very large reason I was excited to play a qunari in the game...and then it didn't happen. Along with bad hair, horns tied to hair and no other "unique" armor available.

I can cover Skyhold in Qunari symbols, but I can't wear Qunari-looking outfits. I want more customizable armor design and personalized body vitaar. With color options.
I want to put a giant male Vashoth Inquisitor in dawnstone armor and light pink vitaar.

Bull loves pink. He thinks dawnstone is pretty.
*sigh* I'll just put my three cents here and hopefully won't have to add anything else (especially seeing that many people added their three cents already)
1) I don't find Iron Bull sexy! It's supposed to show off his muscles and how strong he is!
Retort: That you don't find it sexy is a matter of your subjective personal preference. Many people do. Thus it doesn't exclude the intention to titillate by depicting him in that manner, nor does having another purpose to the look i.e demonstrating strength (a trait that could be demonstrated in innumerable other ways) magically cancel out the intention to sexualize him.
Uh, this whole argument has been twisted and pulled and spun off-topic to such extent that it's hard to make heads or tails out of it. So let me clarify my own position on it.
I don't think I've ever made an argument that no-one in Bioware shouldn't be sexy or sexualized (because that's where I feel this is going). With that said, using Iron Bull's naked chest as some sort of example of Bioware's double standard is just plain ridiculous.
It's just like you said - what people find sexy is a matter of subjective opinion. I'm pretty sure you'll find many people swooning over Cullen clad in his dark armor (lol, count me in).
Which is exactly why making it as if Bull was intentionally sexualized for the sake of some sort of titillation is so intellectually bankrupt. If you recognize that people find different things sexy, there's no point hanging on his bare chest.
Besides - it's not like Bull's harness in any way resembles anything as ridiculous as chainmail bikini or problematic as boob-plate design - his harness isn't inherently dangerous or restraining, and below belt he's more than reasonably clothed (if he wears chain-mail thongs, you'll never know it
)
2) Qunari are more resistant to damage so Iron Bull doesn't need armour!
Retort: Until you show me a canon depiction of Iron Bull shrugging off the loss of limbs/vital organs and/or deflecting blows from edged weapons wielded with deadly intent with nothing more than than his bare chest I would argue that practical armour is an important aspect for survival on the battlefield. Besides, he dons plate with certain armour sets so obviously there must be some merit to it over bare flesh.
People have already mentioned the existence of vitaar, so that detail we've got covered. Add to that natural qunari resistance to damage (10% bonus physical resistance from game-play perspective in DAI alone), as well as the fact that Iron Bull himself is a Reaver - or at least something like it. And Reavers are a class of warriors that trade pain and life-force for raw strength. The closer to death they are, the stronger they become.
Also - Iron Bull mentions in banter how he casually shrugs off blades through guts. His body is also covered with scars, many of which attest that his tales aren't just empty boasting.
3) But it's more acceptable for men to show off their chest in public!
Retort: Again that something is acceptable does not mean that it is not sexualized. And that is a matter of double standards in society. If you're truly trying to be progressive then there's no point in perpetuating such practices is there?
Of course it doesn't mean that is not sexualized - or at least can't be viewed as sexy. But making it as if bare male chest sexualizes males as much as garments that so openly and intentionally sexualizes female is beyond silly.
Also, this whole 'double standard perpetuation' accusation is just priceless. Precisely because it doesn't work - why? Because despite the fact that people react more strongly to female boobs (or maybe predominantly because o that), they are actually everywhere in the media and adverts, and outnumber bare male chests ten to one. Heck, even the call for bikini and boobplates exists for one reason only - to see more female boobies (and female curves), on top of already large boob mountain noticeable to anyone who opens newspapers, comic books, TV or Internet.
In fact, I call for more bare male chests (or maybe some unbuttoned shirts or sexier clothing/armor), just for the sake of balancing the scales, if we're going the route of 'more sexy' everywhere, for everyone.
Who's with me???? ![]()
And before anyone gets the brilliant idea into twisting this into "Butbut... but Iron Bull is still "sexualized", and what about something for those who like girls!?"
Hey - what about Isabela? What about Vivienne and her HUGE boob window? What about Morrigan? There are sexy female NPCs in DAI and wear clothes that fit or reflect something about their characters or origin as well.

I want to put a giant male Vashoth Inquisitor in dawnstone armor and light pink vitaar.
I kinda wish the Vashoth had a unique symbol of their own, because with all the Qunari-inspired decorations, thrones, banners and vitaar, sometimes I feel like my poor Vashoth is a kid who's not allowed to get new things for themselves and instead has been forced to accept hand-me-downs from their older sibling who joined a wacky cult.
For a Vashoth Mage it's even more weird why they'd want to decorate Skyhold (and themselves with the Arishok vitaar) in Qun symbols, since they're the walking antithesis of everything the Qunari would find acceptable in a person?
I mean, compare Ferelden, the Chasind and the Avvar who all came from the same Alamarri people (albeit different tribes) and in the space of only a few hundred years, have evolved into seperate cultures with different symbols. Yet none of the Vashoth or Tal-Vashoth that have likely found themselves outside of the Qun since they landed in the Steel Age, have ever come up with anything unique to distinguish themselves?
I suppose a good explanation might be that Vashoth or Tal-Vashoth settlements don't last long and are frequently wiped out by either xenophobic humans or Ben-Hassrath enforcers, so as a sub-culture, they rarely have time to develop anything new before it's destroyed? Otherwise, they might not just believe in symbols, but I doubt that explanation, since even the Qunari (who don't even deem to gave their own race a name), at least came up with a unique symbol with which to represent themselves?
what about Isabela?

Honestly, what does it matter? I personally find Iron Bull's bulky chest rather unappealing, which some people were quick to point out "is my subjective opinion" - so how is your subjective opinion on these characters different from mine?
So yeah... thank you for proving my point.

Sure, why not? FF is thoroughly Japanese though, with very different sensibilities (as well as even more ridiculous armors for many female charas) and I don't think we'll see many characters like this in media done in the West, for a while at least.
