We've been through this - what you consider "hot" may not be hot for others.

Kefka's been through that debate with several people since this thread began.

He has consistently rebuffed any suggestion of subjectivity. Basically, he lives in argumentum ad populum, and he argues that whatever his opinion is happens to be popular opinion.

Yeah, I've noticed that.... though I keep some semblance of naive hope that one day he'll get why sometimes people can get frustrated with his line of reasoning >.>'''

Lady Artifice has been through that debate with several people since this thread began. She has constantly rebuffed any suggestion of objectivity. Basically, she lives in Ad Antiquitatem, and argues that whatever opinion failing to take into account beauty as fundamentally a subjective enterprise happens to be a false statement.

You can't really have a false opinion. That's not how opinions work.

I was just trying to make the statements match to be silly, *sigh* but edited anyway.

Yeah, and that matching fails because a "false opinion" is inherently paradoxical. It cannot happen.

I think she'd live "Ad Antiquitatem" if she assumed that there were fixed, objective beauty standards to begin with - something that past times have been pretty set to believe in, if history teaches us right.

The fact that we understand that beauty standards can and oftentimes are very subjective (even if there are certain traits that are more desirable than others among broad populace) is more a matter of development of our culture, realization that there are cultures beyond ours with their own standards, or that even that people within certain cultural circle can value different things subjectively, whether on a topic of "hotness" or enjoyment of certain topic, hobbies or games (or else).

I do not, in fact, refute the concept of objectively. To analyze any kind of aesthetic, both objective and subjective aspects need to be taken into account.

When it comes to facial features, symmetry is an objective aspect while coloring is subjective. One person might, for example, be more attracted to red hair while another person might prefer brunettes. It's not just one or the other.

I want all armour for dudes to - without exception - show off their midriff, but that doesn't make it some objective feature of the universe that my taste is right.

I agree with this. It is fair to say that there are certain features that are considered attractive by a majority of people, but individual preferences do vary and beauty is very much in the eye of the beholder.

Pick the actor or actress you find most attractive and go their IMDB page, and you'll find several threads to devoted to how unattractive or overrated that person's looks are. (it's kind of sad really)

Remember people...if someone asks for something "Hot", it's totally ok to tell him/her "well, what you find or not find hot is fully subjective and up to how you personally feel about it, so tough luck, not everyone would care about your view".

If, however, someone asks for something "not offensive", which also depends on his/her personal views/experiences/etc, don't you dare tell them "tough luck, not everyone feels that way, feeling that way is subjective anyway".

Because all subjectivities are subjective but some are more subjective than others.

No one arguing with Kefka currently is actually suggesting that his subjective preference aren't worth mentioning or considering.

The point is his denial that subjectivity exists in the first place. He argues that there isn't any truth to the concept itself.

I can understand that, but he (or she) is far from the only person on this thread that has argued in that manner.

My point wasn't about people's disagreement with Kefka. I say attractiveness is subjective in my post too, don't I?

To make a point about how "all subjectivities are subjective but some are more subjective than others"... whatever it was supposed to meant.

Just to clarify, is this topic about merely having the chest piece stick out a little more than the male versions or is it about actual sculpted breasts on the armor? I've kinda lost track after 71 pages of arguing.

Well, it gets lost pretty easily, no matter how clearly someone states what they're arguing against or for. I usually try to be pretty clear, but points get diluted frequently, especially when topic gets more lively and it's hard to follow numerous responses or points.
