I have made some Imbued Enchanter Arms, and it shows in my 'Upgrades' list, but I have no way of attaching them to my armour - it just doesn't come up as an option when I select 'Armour Upgrades'. I can't find anything on the net to find out what I'm doing wrong. I thought this stuff was supposed to be easy...?

You need to visit the smithy in Haven/Skyhold and look for a Weapons/Armor Upgrade station. Only there can the upgrades be applied/removed from gear.

I've done that, but the piece I've crafted is not available in the upgrade options to add to my armour. :/

That means you probably don't have the right armor to upgrade. The upgrade you mentioned can only be applied for light armors, and not every armor you find in the game is upgradable.

It would be nice if there was a notification about it when you mouseover the item - not all of us have played all Dragon Age games. -_-

It wasn't like this in previous installments. In fact, Inquisition is radically different in terms of gameplay from the previous two games. Those were far more better, though.

And there's a notification if the item is upgradeable, in their description there are two fields which are there for the upgrades, and when its not upgraded, it should say "Empty Legs/Arms".
