I don't think the Heart is pure flirt from the Inqusitors site.

(My Herald wasn't flirting when she told Solas that she would not let the Inqusition turn in him because he was a mage at the start of the game. That was one mage and elf to another).

I read them as a way for the game to signal that this be something that can make a character fall for your PC.

I also genrally see tham as a way of "I am being extra nice or personal with you at the moment"

Edit so the Heart does mean like you, but nowhere does it say it is romantically.

I found the Heart appearing at rather inappropriate times during the game, like when you first meet Blackwall. I found it unnecessary for her to say that to him. "What's next for us?" that's too forward for my gal. She just met the guy!

I think it's cute that the Heart option can endear a companion to you, but unless you kiss them or start a romance, I find it a good option just for the warm-hearted player.

My most beloved and who loved me in return companions were Cass, Dorian and Cole (and Cullen who is a companion once). I only used the flirt with Cass about Varric's book and she liked it, Dorian and I just flirt for fun and I helped hook him up with IB, and Cole just likes me right away because of my kindness. I romanced Solas the whole time.

DA2? Wow...romances were easy there. I'm talking BG2 style ones....

Well if I consider Sebastians too hard I doubt I'd like BG2 style one's then at all :3

BG2's ones had a lot of ways you could mess the romance up by choosing the wrong dialogue options (the romances were based entirely around picking the right options when talking to them , there was no "approval" mechanic), and they weren't marked as such (there's no heart and broken heart symbols) - most of the time it was reasonably obvious what option to chose to continue the romance, but every now and then it would throw a curveball at you. For example, IIRC, the first two times Viconia wants to have sex with you, you have to accept, but the third time you have to turn her down, else you end up as friends with benefits and nothing more. That's not to say there's nothing at all to suggest that you should take that option, but it come in the form of her overall story and character, rather than a clear indicator when the dialogue comes up (i.e. you, the player, have to think a bit, and come to the conclusion that, if you want her to actually fall in love with you, you're going to have to show her there's more to intimacy than simply banging every night).

I'm kind of oblivious to things a lot of the time so the heart symbol really helps me out >.>

It's mostly like DA2 but without colors to guide you. Top option is diplomatic, middle is sarcastic and bottom is aggressive.

The weirdest part is the Blackwall intro the flirt is the most polite way to say goodbye to him... I just find that strange.

And I love Dorian's flirts, it almost feels like a game of who can come up with the most outrageous thing to say, which is just beautiful.

Sigh, wish I could drag Cullen around more often... Curse of being a senior officer, can't be hazarded with the fun commands.

Yeah it's not a flirt but a nice goodbye, yet it's supposed to start forming an attraction between them. It seems off. I love using the sarcastic option when I first meet him, then he gets annoyed. Lol

Dorian is my BFF in all my playthroughs!

I'd love that too. I want to hear his banter! Lol

The funny thing is I got the same feeling about Solas, of all people.

Solas: *muses about how fascinating it would be to see my Quizzy's indomitable will dominated*

me (after first hearing this): *spits tea on keyboard*

Talk about still waters running deep. Gotta love that they sometimes give Inquisitors dialogue options to give him a run for his money xD

That's very well put. That may be it, yes. Since I don't usually pick flirty choices with companions that are not my LI, that left me in a sort of enforced 'I don't care' position vis-a-vis my companions. Good idea!

Thanks! I agree about the forced "I don't care" sort of position you're thrown in. I can't believe I forgot to mention Dorian in my list though! I love his friendship arc, he sounds so sincere after the end when he says you're his one true friend. One thing I would have liked though, was to be able to relate to him more. For some reason, only males can relate to him about his personal quest, which is kind of arbitrary. It's always fun to flirt with him, since we both know it'll lead nowhere.

How many romances do you all think will be in DA4? I'm betting on 6 (3 men/3 women, 2 straight, 2 gay, 2 bisexual) since that was probably what they were originally going for in DA:I.

I think is the most likely. The devs had said that their goal was (from DA2) to give at least two choice to everyone. More are bonus put in if time/story let it. So there can be more than six, but the "base" is six, 2/2/2.

I must admit I'm still actually hoping to play again as the Inquisitor... I know is almost impossible, since the DA serie is about having a different character every time, but the time and relationship felt a little... well, little if I look at the other DA. Probably an impression with the long time running around the areas, that make the time in Skyhold feel very little in comparison, or maybe the almost inexistent affect some of the characters have on the story.

Probably I just liked so much playng my characters I'd like to play them a little more  :P

That would be quite nice, although I wonder if Bioware is going to go with equal numbers on next game since they seem to value making romances suiting for their characters rather than forcing numbers be equal. I also wonder how Patrick Weekes replacing David Gaider is going to affect in the story and characters.

I did want to point out that Patrick Weekes was one of the writers that was supportive of the idea of an asexual romance and they've talked about doing one in a future game.  :)

Cool. I'm hoping Maevaris is a companion in the next game. I wouldn't be at all surprised if she isn't a romance option, but they should make her one, just to see what people say. Wait... no they shouldn't :? Still, if they had Shokrakar and Maevaris that would be amazing.

Well, keep in mind they make those characters, and they can make anything suit them. So they don't need to choose between equal numbers and romances suiting characters, as long as they do it well. I still think they'll (re)try to equal numbers, because let me tell you, even with 2 options in DA2/DA:I, there is a huge probability of liking neither.

However Bioware has also stated things like "romance didn't fit to character" which was one reason why DAI in the end had unequal numbers. I think they will try to keep it as balances as possible as well, but they still might end up having more LI's for some PC's than others.

That would be intresting. Not what I'm looking for in romance content, but I think lot of people would be happy. I don't know there has even been asexual character in any video game so far either, as far as I know so having one would be big deal :)

As long as it's more of a race-specific than sex-specific imbalance, I can live with it. Having to wait another 3 years to possibly like a romance option in DA sucks enough without having to worry about whether people might inherently get more options than me.

*shrugs* The imbalance doesn't bother me because I enjoy playing different types of characters.

There are eight love interests this time around (not counting Harding). You're bound to find someone you like.

That's also a good point! I stopped being fond of Kaidan when I realized his thick-headedness doesn't work for me. But then when I consider what Bioware did to Ash in ME3, it's like... why can't I leave them both on Virmire?  :D Y'know? As a mercy to Ash's character and because Kaidan is kind of a jerk in disguise, IMO.

If you're referring to Ashley's horrible makeover there's a mod (Ashley Legacy mod) to make her look more like she did in ME2, she looks great and it also replaces the catsuit with an crewmember uniform

And if you're a straight guy you only get two, and look at those two... I doubt you'll get any meaningful results from this thread or BSN yet every where else its plain as day..

I understand they wanted to add other sexual preferences (which is great for those groups) but in all fairness add an equal amount in for everyone..
