Well, they announced all the romances on the forums before release. So it depends on whether you count BioWare endorsed meta-knowledge or not.
They did have a fair point with letting people know ahead of time. It's a long game, with lots of little details if you're doing the side quests and war table missions. No one wants to get 60+ hours in the game to realize they screwed up their chance at a romance because they pursued someone that isn't interested.

But that's what I want lol.
I want uncertainty.
If everything is clear cut then what is there to discover? where does the re-playability come from?
Having things known or made easy kills a game for me.
It's like seeing or reading spoilers. Where is the fun once you already know? What would drive you to see it when you are already aware?

That's fair if it's what you want, but it didn't reduce replayability for me. It added to it, in fact. I decided that had to romance Dorian after finishing runs with my first three romance choices. He's strangely irresistible.
Discovering the stories of the characters is a much bigger thing for me than the romances though, and that's not hindered in any way by knowing their preferences beforehand. I try to avoid spoilers, but learning them doesn't remove the wonder of seeing the game and story unfold before me, with MY choices and reactions behind them. But I guess folks that avoided all news and info about the game before it launched got to discover the romance stuff for themselves anyway. Were you one of them?

The only things I knew were DA:O, DA2, the "Dawn of the Seeker" movie which inspired me to chase Cassandra even tho she looked miles better in DA2 lol.
And then I played DA:I with no news of it other than "there are past characters involved" (literally those words) and knowing Morrigan comes back.
Thats all I knew.
The stories in DA:I felt too short and not very meaningful.
I know people say DA2 was rushed but for me DA:I also felt really rushed as it lacked character depth from everyone and the meaningfulness of what you are doing just never hit me. And that wannabe god guy was just so generic and meh that I just wanted it to be over.
I could only stomach completing the game twice as I learned all plot points with that and covered what I wanted to know regarding the differences in the story.
Only about a combined 100hrs (60hrs 1st, 40hrs 2nd) I spent on the game and then I was finished with it entirely yet DA:O had me doing it 4 times (would have done more but Orzammar is just too damn long)
DA:O romance wasn't key in that but story was as each race made the story different aswell as learning new things as you progressed.
DA:I storywise it didn't matter what race you was let alone what role you had, it was just too linear which was really surprising ....
But I am drifting off topic lol.
Anyway yes, more discovery with romance.
More realistic events and occurences.
Possible failed romances, on and off relationships or fully successful relationship leading to engagement, marriage &or children
Deeper stories that you can get immersed in and really feel for a character.
It doesn't need to be dramatic, just feel real enough to connect with.

Yeah, I just thought we were going off the pretense of experiencing the game without prior knowledge.
Nah.
Cassandra mentions her ex plus she had the movie (if you saw it)
Sera is blatant lol.
Solas probably fits the bill as you literally get nothing from the guy unless your a female elf I guess.
Cassandra will mention her ex, yes (if you're lucky enough to get banter). That doesn't confirm her sexuality though. You can't assume she's straight because she mentioned a male lover and no female ones. So like I said, you only find out if you pursue her as a female. I didn't find Sera blatant at all to be honest. To my knowledge, Blackwall's sexuality isn't mentioned unless you try to romance him (again, only as a female), and Cullen (ignoring meta-knowledge) only talks about liking women if you pursue him. I don't think Josephine ever mentions anything to do with sexuality or romance.

Of all the characters, i think she is the most blatant about her sexual orientation. I don't want it to go to the other extreme, where characters have flashing text above their head stating their sexuality.
And if you are a man and try to romance her straight away you get shot down lol
@CathyMe
Yes exactly! lol.

And no "Pick me I am the romance option! Over here where the heart is!!"
I want it to happen more naturally due to character compatibility so you need to find out what type of character your potential LI's like.
Your first run may make you available to two LI's.
One may only like you at times giving you a on and off relationship due to your choices and decisions.
While the other may agree more with you and want to pursue an engagement or marriage and talk of children if hetero couple.
This kind of thing I would like.
More from romances on a whole (building/maintaining/end game)
Agreed.
When I create a character, I pick a romance that suits the character not the other way around, especially on my first "blind" PT, although a problem that still exists is that after a certain point you can't romance a character anymore (like not kissing solas in the fade).

Yeah and that's where the "maintaining" needs to be improved.
I mean what is the age rating on the game? And you can't invite your lover to bed freely? no more openly kissing them infront of your party?
Options are very limited with romance and maintaining the romance and the end game is just poor really.
I want improvements on all aspects.
And I know BioWare can do it because they have done it at different times on different games regarding the maintenance of relationships.
I mean god the character you are sleeping with wont even call you by name when in private at least.
Yes saying your individual first name may be hard but if its the default first name then it should be said and failing that then they should say your last name just like DA2 or ME.
Honestly, I'm all for taking away the option to name our character if our friends and lover gets to call our char by the first name, I almost always go with the default, since I lack imagination

I like naming as it helps add character i.e Salazar for my Tyrannical Mage Leader.
But yes choosing default names should make your companions able to say your name.
But I do feel Maintaining your relationship is the most vital part of the romance.
Achieving it is all well and good and can even be a relief at times with its own reward but once achieved if there is nothing to maintain it with then it just starts to feel empty and pointless.
This was a major problem for me with ME3. At one point i felt jealous of Garrus as Tali would brush me off with "I'm busy, maybe later" whenever I tried to talk to her yet she could manage a full conversation with Garrus including flirting while i am still stood there lol.
I was miffed off lmao.
And with DA:I once you complete the main quest... wtf happens to your LI? Just totally forgets about you lol. No reward system with romance at all.

It's something BioWare hasn't done since DA:O
Stop taking the words from my mouth! ...Joking
But yeah I completely agree with you. Getting in a relationship is easy, keeping it is hard. This is why I liked Garrus romance so much . It evolves as both of you go through thin and thinner, no cheap "I love you" after talking with him 2 times, and when he finally says it, it actually caries weight and meaning, and you actually get to talk with him, at the end , about settling down. And in DAI, zevran also became my favorite (not that i didn't like him before), because he is the only one who is at the warden's side

Yeah on Rannoch Me and Tali was talking about building a house.... I pictured our son playing in a field with the robo dog while we sat on the porch cuddled together... How wrong was I...?
But yeah that kind of talk and build up from Garrus sounds awesome (never did it as I just can't bring myself to play as a female sorry lol)
But did you get to interact with him much in ME3 as a couple?
And back on point...
Yeah it's good to know someone understands me.
I just hope BioWare pays attention as I will not buy anymore of their games Until it has been out long enough to have extensive videos on youtube which are walkthroughs (Which I never look at normally) showing better animations, better quests, deeper story and better romance.
If they can't deliver on all aspects I want I just aint buying as both the ME and DA series have let me down so much so that I seriously question why have BioWare got a rep as being the best modern day RPG makers.
Harsh? Maybe but when you have someone get emotionally invested in your game and then you give them crap with no reward then yeah expect jimmies rustled lol

To be fair, that is a subjective matter, also he has more scenes than tali because he joins at the start, thus more interaction as a couple . I know I was satisfied

Well, I do agree that the games have their flaws, I think they keep getting better, so I'm not at the point where I say I won't buy them anymore. Besides, BW games make up of like 90% of the game I've bought (which is why I probably don't clasiffy as a gamer )

no but I mean actually in ME3 do you get to interact with Garrus much?
I see so... 6 or 8 games make a majority of your games?
Yeah for me i think AAA companies have been letting me down in general and its a case of the straw that broke the camels back.
And BioWare's track record doesn't sit well with me I guess.
I hate when I see low quality in a supposed AAA game which then players have to create mods to fix or make better which really and truly the devs should have done in the beginning or with patches and updates.
I will get a pirate version of a game to test it out no probs just like I did DA:I (which I am most pleased about) as IF I had paid £60 for that game with that little story... I would have felt completely ripped off and I can honestly say I understand why some players resort to threats and rage when a bad product with false promise is released and you are charged full whack for it.

You mean, if you get extre cutscenes? Then the answer is no. But I found the changes to the existent cutscenes , if you are in a romance pretty satisfying(like how he asks you if you want to make it a serious relationship, on the presidium, or how he tries to hug you after thessia, and there are the citadel interaction, like the tango and him joking about meeting his inlaws )....quality over quantity, I quess
but enough ranting about garrus

Well, pretty much yes. I can count on one hand the games i've played and are not made byBW (all the free mmos that i started and got bored of not counting). It's because, my rule no. 1 when playing a game is to have a female protagonist, or at least the option. Which is why i roll my eyes like feris wheels at all this threads complaining how the "DAI is politically correct", "the feminists are ruining it"
Edit

To be fair, gaming industry could learn a bit from the movie industry. They release a trailer a month or so before the release, and if the movie disappoints, it gets a bad review and everyone moves on. But gaming companies keep hyping features that are not entirely sure they will keep, thus creating certain expectation, and those high expectation are not met, the fans understandably are upset.

Agreed enough about ME3
"DAI is politically correct", "the feminists are ruining it"? Really? P.C is ruining most things in life in general which I understand.
And with a P.C attitude it then gets rid of grit and tension that could potential exist between characters like Ashley's racist attitude towards aliens in ME (thats why I killed the biatch on virmire lol) or the tention in DA towards Elves which to be fair does seem VERY lacking in DA:I now that I think about it.
Tension in DA:I is more from Mage/Templar than a race related issue.
But Feminists? That I just don't get.
If people said there was more non Hetero options to Hetero options then ok I could understand as you can find more bi and gay choices which really when you think about it a bi choice really doesn't matter as your character can't maintain a relationship between two characters so you can't actually be bi in the game.
Ultimately you need to choose no matter who you are flirting with so the bi characters maid are really just another option for a gay relationship. As you can't be a man and woman in one playthrough having her maintain both relationships and you yourself can't maintain two relationships from both sexes lol.
Yeah HONEST reviews would help the gaming industry just like responding to fans or really testing your games and all it's features before release to make sure everything works.
I mean how long has DA:I been out, yet still has bugs and crashes.
Damn even ME1 never got fixed with the Rachni mission and last mission turning all character models into pixelated black blocks lol.
But I never posted here to complain lol.
I just wanna make suggestions to improve the romance in the games of BioWare lol.
So yes BioWare folks!
Better romance built up from general actions and decision kind of like DA:I but without the blatant "Pick me if you wanna romance" heart. Make the companions want to approach me like that more natural so we aint left with weird moments like:
And Next is the maintenance you BIoWare people you
Cheeky chappies with no sense of continuing a good thing or keeping it alive for the duration a player plays a game. And you did so well in DA:O, why let us down now?
And finally they key that was missing from ME3 (at least for me) is a reward for your relationship with your chosen Love Interest. You can have engagement, marriage or even kids. Even a show of them just talking about these things backed up with and end that supports this and a after game (your playthrough once the main quest is done) which allows you to continue maintaining your relationship (like ME2) with simple dialogue of sweet talk with "I love you's" and such.
I'm not sure why people are counting gay and bi characters as one group since a bisexual woman counts for both straight men and lesbians. So it's silly to say 'there are more gay AND bisexual options', because bisexual options count for both straight and gay PCs.
And, of course, outside of human women and female elves, everyone gets the same number of options.

Maybe i failed to word it right.
A bi sexual person playing the game has the most options as they have the straight one and the gay ones and those bi characters (IB/Josie) help with the gay options.
But a single sexual preference like gay or hetero does have the same options (2) so sorry for the confusion with my wording lol
