This was DG's response to a post of mine about that:

http://forum.bioware...4#entry16479270

That's a good answer. I would still like to see more female companions next game because I tend to connect to them better, but it's not like it killed the game or anything. Actually, come to think of it, I think it's mostly real life I do that. Ingame, overall, I like more male characters.

That said, I don't really understand everyone's praise on how Bioware handles 'diversity'. They kind of suck at it. Plainly LBGT people were the flavour of the day for this game, which is fine, but they could have still had all that content and still had a more diverse world than what they did.

Funny thing is, everyone sees the game as reflecting the majority genetic makeup of America, which is great for Americans, but what about everyone else? A full third of the population of the planet is not represented, but hey, we have 2 gay characters! Look how awesome they are!!

So we have 2 gay, 2 bi characters, a scattered few references to LBGT issues. Great, but where are the asians? How many people in this entire thread have even brought this up? I'm guessing not many as Asians don't make any noise about it. Add a few few cameos of women in power, so no need to have very many women as any of the inner circle! One black character, one of each thedas race, and the rest are white dude(ette)s. Yeah real diverse Bioware (clap clap)

As for mixed race relationships, I don't see why this is even an issue. Are Americans really still so hung up on mixed race couples? I thought that went away in the 80's.As someone who is in a mixed race relationship, I really didn't notice, nor do I care if a game has mixed race couples in it. I did notice, however, that I can't make my wifes face in the CC due to it being pretty much impossible to make any character look like anything but Caucasian or African. (yes I've seen peoples attempts and was less than impressed.)

Great post and I agree.

As much as sexuality is an identifying trait for some and are happy it is included, race is also an identifying trait too which would be nice if it could be diversely included also.

This was the 2013 ad and one news coverage about it:

I am glad I ain't American but also hate the Americanization that is happening here in England lol.

Also checkout "MSNBC Pathetically Apologizes For Tweeting Truth About Right Wing Racists" on youtube for the TV station's response and repercussions lol.

I know we've moved past this, but I need to say, there is no way you could get to that point in a romance with Mae without learning she's transgender. So that's a non-issue. Also, I know you probably didn't mean it badly, but try to avoid phrasing like "It's a guy".

Objectively the person complaining would say that as that is what they would see.

I understand for a transsexual they see themselves as a woman trapped in a mans body or vice versa I get that.

But my comment was about complaints from a general outlook not a personal one understand?

I met that guy for the first time today! He's hilarious, and I think one of the things that makes him so funny to me is that he's got Alexius' voice.

Lord Trifles Minutiae for next game's love interest.

So, all... how 'bout them love interest and companion ideas for future DA and ME installments? Eh? Eh? ... [crickets chirping]?

I'd like more genuinely good people as companions rather than the dark/edgy/morally grey companions Bioware has been favoring lately.

I'd love that. :) It'd be an excellent chance to prove that, with good writing, all good people aren't automatically boring just because they lack obvious flaws.

Of course, I did say good writing, so I personally wouldn't hold out too much hope of it working well. Bioware seems to prefer glorifying base behavior.

I'd also love to no longer see any more walking retcons like Bull. And, since Qunari are guaranteed to be shoehorned in every installment, I dearly hope they go back to their DA2 appearances, or at least a decent combination of the DA2 and DAO appearances. It'd also be neat if we could choose body-type options, or at least see a Qunari male with a slim, lithe build. Can't stand such over-the-top bulk, myself; it's very off-putting. Their bodies in DA2 were at least realistically buff, IMO. Still, I think if the men have to be so bulky, it's really odd that the women are all skinny in comparison.

Edit: While I'm at it... I really don't want to see any Blackwall/Josie and Dorian/IB-esque companion relationships resurface. If they don't gross me out or make me cringe, then non-romanced NPC relationships are A-okay. The aforementioned ones are super gross, though, and that's the point I am trying to make here. Or, better yet, stave off on that entirely and let the player just headcanon that sort of thing if they're into that sort of thing, especially if they're continuing down this "we're too lazy to write the story" route. Another thing is allowing the player to be a matchmaker in the way that Hawke was for Aveline and Donnic. No non-player romances that we don't want to hear about without our input, and everyone's happy, probably. Maybe.

Sounds like a popular request! I'd love to see that, especially if there's an excellent balance between strength and beauty (believable amounts of both, in other words). Fewer complaints about her being mannish and ideally no complaints about her being too petite/dainty for someone who wears heavy armor and swings heavy weapons around all the time.

I... whut? Most companions stay with Inquisition for genuinely good reasons, even if they have their flaws, prejudices and (public or secret) agendas. Personally, I like it that way.

Can't say that I'm a fan of bulky models myself.

I don't Like the storoid-filled phisque of the male qunari, but if they had decent hair, I would love the qunari. I Like the various horns and faces.

Qunari males should give some of their muscles to the elves. This time elves are really almost anorexic.

Agreed wholeheartedly! :)

While we're on this subject, I'd also love to see a slim male dwarf, as well. Done right, it could look really good. So, some of what I'd like to see would be: a slim male Qunari, a slim male dwarf, a much broader female Qunari, and elves with better bodies in general, plus some relatively broad elves.

And this is what I like :) I mean, this adds something to realism. Why should be only the "main protagonist" in some romantic relationship? While they are in such close friendly collective, it seems natural that they can have feelings for each other. Or - as we have already talked about it here (I think) - companion with wife / husband / children at "home"... Even married couple - both as companions - could possibly bring something interesting... maybe if "renegade" PC could ruin their relationship or something like that by wrong decisions... I just like when characters are "deeper" and they are not like "back then, I had some life, family, friends, loves, hobbies, but now, there is only inquisition / this team / whatever" ;)

I was under the impression that the Blackwall/Josie never goes anywhere. As for companion romance outside of that with the PC, I think it'd be interesting for the companions to have lives outside of the inner circle, rather than choosing from the same handful of people our character runs around with. Like, say, you go to the tavern, and you see one of your PC's cohorts chatting it up with a stranger.

Blackwall/Josie doesn't but it was interesting and overall pointless

I agree companion romance outside of the PC is interesting and does make the world feel more real

I like the romances between companions too. The only thing... I'm a little envious. not of the romance. But that usually the companions seem to not have the problems the PC have. Fenris and Isabela, for example. fenris run away trumatized from a night with Hawke, but with Isabela no problems?

I love the NPC romances. I ended up liking Carver/Merrill and Dorian/Bull more than their respective romances.

It makes me feel less guilty when I romance someone else lmao, 'cause at least I know my favorite characters won't be lonely-onlys pining after the PC.

edit; apparently I can't spell Merrill's name :P

Oh, I liked Bethany x Sebastian too! It's just, uh... Bethany has an unfortunate tendency to not be alive in my playthroughs. Consequence of playing so many mage Hawkes.
