So I have completed the first series of recruitments - ending with the Krogan.  After the cutscene back on the Normandy in the comm room I have great difficulty getting either the door or comm table to become selectable even when looking directly at it.  Tried reloading, restarting the program, and going to another section of the ship and back, (after a minute or two of trying to open the door).  Still cant use the table and I need to be able to to advance the plot.

Edit - So I right now have the game in windowed mode right in front of the door and switching between Chrome and ME. When I switch back it briefly displays the action command to open the door. I try it again and spam space and it works for both the door and comm table.  I honestly don't know what could possibly cause it and hope it will be gone the next time i get on the ship.

Bump since I'm having the same problem. I'll be able to hilight the box from a distance (like from inside the tech lab or amory) but can't get it when in range to open. Have tried game and computer restarts.

All of you need to upgrade to hardware that meets the game requirements, or else drop your screen resolution a great deal below where you have it now.  Your video components are inadequate and the feedback speed is too low for proper interaction.

If any of you actually do meet the Recommended level for video, and have any similarity of symptoms, I would like to know what resolutions you have tried using, and if there are specific selections that are problematic, while others, particularly the standard old 4:3 ratio settings, work fine.  I've heard second hand (anecdotal) reports of such, and I will be collectiing any such data points for my own information.
