And he will be pardoned.
NO HE WON'T!!!

Well, according to Lisselle in Denerim in DA:O, Chevaliers are basically allowed to do whatever they want to the common people, not to mention the elves.
As for the whole thing regarding Celene, Briala, and the purge.... Well, this is basically how I feel about it:
Ya...funny thing. Celene is trying to end that while gespard is not. Also, Celene is a type of person who believes in braking an egg to make an omelet.

you know, when she's not turning alienages into a lovely pile of ash and cinders

Wait, she does that? Screw what she did to the alienages! That up there is vile! Despicable! The woman is a blight on humanity and chickens alike.
Kind of glad I let her get assassinated now.
You achieve both those by achieving military victory.
You dictate terms after you win the field, not before.

Gespard likes eating chickens alive...slowly.

They're all monsters. But Ill go with the one that actually want to change thing for the better.
True but you don't "dictate" terms, you work them out with diplomacy and compromise. Dictating terms just makes people resentful, it doesn't end wars.

*shrugs*
I'm more concerned about the future generations of chickens rather than the ones currently living.....

I'm not choosing Briala! ![]()

until someone tells her "no"
then she'll coat the walls of Orlesian cities with elf blood if pressed hard enough, its not like she has a spine

Why do you make it like she burned alienage on a daily basis? She made one mistake in the 20 years she had been ruling and she is "spineless"?
When all the the other sources indicate that she had been pretty competent @ handling the nobility. (see her codexes entries in DA2 and DAI).
And like Gaspard would have ended the rebellion in any other way. At least she tried to end it by murdering Mainserai.
LOL
*blinks*
I'll be sure to tell that to recorded history then.
Thanks for the amazing insight into human psychology.
You're welcome.

I mean total military victory has never been achieved before!
It's a startling notion to think of!
It couldn't just be that people who grew up in the safety of those victories, somehow think their above it!
I don't think I'm above it, I just don't think the reason I'm safe is because of "total military victory". In fact from the end of WW2 to perhaps 1991 I don't think anyone could claim they felt "safe". Actually, most days, I don't feel safe (but that's usually because of terrorism).

In the Dragon Age world, it becomes exceptionally difficult to establish a reasonable compromise when people and factions want pretty crazy things. Like, with the Venatori, there is no compromise. You crush them, then promptly burn their corpses so a necromancer can't use them against you.
Of course, there are some instances when diplomacy plays out to an optimal result with little bloodshed, like Josephine's dealing with the House of Repose's contract on her life, but at least the assassins' guild adheres to a certain code of conduct and honors contracts, making it a known quantity.
I suppose if you don't mind speaking turkish.
What do you mean?

True.
Anders is certainly welcome to return if that means I can stab him again.

Inquisitor: Anders? I thought you were killed during the uprising in Kirkwall!
Anders: I got better.
Varric: Andraste's ass, why are all the things Hawke killed coming back to life?

It goes extremely off topic and may brush some toes because it involves *gasp* religion, oh the horror.
Suffice it to say if Europe had not combatted the Ottomans and it's associated incarnations as it had over a period of seven centuries, resulting in the dissolution of the final remnant of the central empire in 1922 the world as it sits now wouldn't exist.
Total military victory created this reality you live in.
If you want more then this PM me.
I'm fine thanks. I'm not a history major but I did study a little of recent history (the WW's mostly) and I agree, but I don't think it secured the peace I'm thinking of. There's a long gap between 1922 and the modern day.
