Ok, I had to go check the dialogue. Solas doesn't actually say spirits change into demons just by calling them one. He says on his personal quest that they turn when they are bound/tortured/abused, and commanded to do acts against their nature/will. So slavery. And then on Cole's personal quest, he says the death the of real Cole wounded him, and perverted him from his purpose. So traumatic experiences.

Perhaps when the Seeker called Cole a demon, Cole turned because he was already traumatized and it just brought it out? Cole said himself he was wrong, though. He thought it would help acting more like what he believed he was (a demon), but it didn't.

Solas is pretty adamant a spirit cannot change it's purpose/essence just by wishing it, though. But having done Solas' romance, I'm thinking he has a personal reason/bias in thinking this way....so we don't know if it is actually true, or just a personal fear he has.

Wynne is dead.

Oh, right. Well perhaps Anders, Evangeline and their respective Spirits will meet at some point. Mage and Templar. Justice and Faith. Perfect.

Anders died in a short story published before hte release of DA2, Justice too. Now if you let him live there is only an abomination that reassembles both. The sum destroyed the parts. :(

Not only did Anders/Justice not die in that short story, it takes place BEFORE the events in DA2, when Anders/Justice were still with the Wardens. Should Anders survive the events in DA2 he is mentioned in DA:I as being alive somewhere and if a lover of The Champion, that he will probably return.

The previous poster just reminded me of something: "And then his sword is level with my chest, and I let it come, because it is only steel and cannot hurt me, for I am not of mortal men. And when it sinks hilt-deep in my flesh with no reaction, that's when he gives up." - Anders (Short Story)

This strongly suggest that Anders/Justice cannot be killed or easily killed by conventional or atleast mundane means. I would bet that the knife in the neck as a possible outcome for Anders/Justice in DA2 worked as well as the aforementioned sword in the chest. As in, not very well. I interperet this as a strong hint that Anders/Justice will return in future titles whether you 'killed' them or not.

Bioware confirmed if you killed him he's dead.

That's post DA2 So it's a fairly old confirmation that they haven't bothered correcting in years.

Also Bioware has distanced itself from all the DA2 short stories as pseudo cannon regardless.

So no.

If Hawke shived him in the spine Anders is dead

Abominations are depicted as much more powerful in lore than they've ever been in the games. I wouldn't  give it much thought...

i would prefer if they stop the cameos for the sake of the story that would benefit greatly (DAI all the cameos are useless except for Flemeth), unless they are truly necessary,  (Solas for the sake of the story, and the always super loved Cullen for the sake of the fans)

David Gaider also said this during an interview:

"TUK: Can I ask, what effect if any Anders being merged with Justice is going to have on his Calling?

DG: Uh...interesting. I'm getting some...okay, it's gone now, I was hearing a mental voice there, it was weird. [laughter] There were some plans to address that but in the end it became very complicated. I think there are a couple possibilities. One is that the spirit within Anders can affect the level of his corruption, so it may delay or remove the necessity for his Calling altogether. Either that or at some point the corruption within Anders is going to corrupt the spirit. I think those are the two most likely outcomes. I'm not going to say which of those we prefer, because Anders can survive DA2 so therefore there's a possibility that we may need him in the future." - http://swooping-is-b...om/1286233.html

This quote illistrates yet ANOTHER reason that Anders is too important and involved in various DA story/plot lines to just kill off or disregard. The Calling was as important plot point in DA:I and will undoubtedly be in the future with whatever is going on with the Wardens and the HOF's search. And unlike Leliana, so far, his plot armor has lore that would support his survival should players import a game-state in which he 'died'.

I'll take Gaider at his assertion Anders is dead and rotting if you kill him over fan assertion.

One was a former lead writer, the other is fan assertion based on a assumption about future plot relevancy.

I'm usually one to agree with this, but this little voice in the back of my head reminds me that these guys will sometimes lie their tongues black to keep a plot point hidden. Just being subversive, mind you <G>

Eh it's not likely to be overly relevant.

I mean even if it was possible the little abomination outlived it's era.

The rebellion is over.

Probably, but just figured I throw it out and be a trouble maker.

Seriously, you're most likely right, and the only way we'd probably have any interaction would be a minor cameo or something with a romanced Hawke potentially dealing with Weishaupt. That's about it. Or another Feynriel possessed type thing. People might enjoy that too much.

It goes against dev comments directly on the issue so I'd argue.

Not so much.

There is one codex entry that says Anders is quite alive and well, both mentally and physically and he is with Hawke. Together they visit different circles and help mages escape.

I don't remember every detail but its one of the Hawke's codex, one that requires an Alive and Romanced Anders in the keep.
